Good Charities

Anyone know of any good charities?
I was particularly impressed with Kiva (which, if you always reinvest your money in other projects as well as financing new ones could be used as a charity), until I read Wakas' post

Is there anything like Kiva that does not charge interest? Something that does not just give handouts, but treats people as equals?

This is a good research tool to use when looking for a suitable charity http//www.charitynavigator.org/

You could lend to Kiva field partners who do not charge interest. That is what I do now.

I have been trying to find this out. I have looked at the profitability rate and have yet to find one that does not charge interest.
Which ones have you found?

They do not come around often. I think I've invested in 2 in 10 months.
The average APR equivalent is 37% pa on Kiva. If a bank tried to charge that kind of interest rate on a loan in the UK they'd be riots in the streets.
When I found out about the % I complained to Kiva, and that they did not allow a search function to search for field partners based on % and fees. They said they would consider having this function for the future.
Basically, sign up to the Kiva Muslims group (which I see you have) and wait for a notification to come up for such a loan. Might be waiting a while.
I'm not a fan of Kiva, so I use other ways for charity giving. Child sponsorship, donations etc.
If anyone has any good tips, feel free to post them.

I though Kiva was different.
I even put a spiel about the bankers in my profile.
Little did I know that Kiva were acting just like them.
I think I heard something about microfinance scandals on Al Jazeera (like an advert for a program) and people committing suicide because of it. I guess this is what it was.
