Is hell going to be eternal for anyone acording to the Quran

As the last two posts very adequately prove, the same book can lead people to believe that hell is eternal and that hell is finite (being that I believe Allah is most-merciful, I believe the latter).
Please aware that people may give you false info depending on their desire. If a verse clearly and directly states that hell is eternal without needing any constrained explanations, then it is eternal. Book can not being in falsehood, but people can.

While I totally agree with you, be aware that your statement goes both ways. Maybe your belief in hell's eternity comes from your desire for sentient beings to be tortured for eternity as punishment for sins.

I was aware that someone can use my statement against me, bu the there is an important fact, I just quoted related verses on my post without any comment. So, you stated that those bare verses enough to people believe in hell is eternal.
If God says that Hell is eternal, then it is eternal. This is simple logic, not desire..

In response, I don't think that God is saying that hell is eternal. An English translation of the Koran is saying hell is eternal (in that particular translation). I know absolutely no Arabic, so I'll never claim any sort of expertise on the Koran's various translations.
I agree, that in the context of the verses you quoted, hell is eternal. However, in the context of the post I was initially referring to (raginggaijin's), there is a case to be made that hell is not eternal (according to an English translation of the Koran). I have seen translations of the Koran that say in the introduction that hell isn't eternal. Either way, it's an opinion. In my opinion, any book that has been touched by man has been somewhat corrupted. People use religious texts as a means to control and dominate other people, and saying that people are going to burn for eternity if they don't obey God's (aka some sort of religious figure's) will is a pretty played-out means of instilling people with a neurotic state of fear.
I think that the True and Living God is Most-Merciful, and therefore wouldn't torture a sentient being for eternity as punishment for a finite sin. To me, that is unjust and demonic.
I think it is best if we agree to disagree.

For instance, knowng no surrender, and believing one needs to live up to idols. And seeing this as eternal.
Idolatry is association with God, and wrong belief. Therefore, this belief is what brings them to hell.

If one places a needle before ones eye, and looks through it, the camel will pass.
It is perception.
If one is mistaken about god, (association), one might perceive hellfire indeed.
However if one is right, and perceives right, one may instead have a chance at paradise.So it becomes very central to be right about Gods nature.
For me, God seems to be a nirvanic concept.
An immaterial trancendent paradox, without space and time. Allknowing, never changing.And it is consciousness. (see verses about god breathing ruh into you) So surrender to consciousness, and that of learning to listening to self, and rejecting all idolatry, is central.
If one is in a state of some perplexion, one ofcourse has the whole of the quran, to learn from.

Hell is in the making!
Hell is an experience some what, it has to be treated like that and not like a home confined in space and time, The element of liminality is significant.
Therefore, this may suggest that it is not eternal atleast like the heaven!
However, in the Hereafter There will be Great Punishment for evil doers (rejectors) and that is it I know! And that punishment is also true in this life.
May we all are guarded against this fire. Ameen

I think Ibn Qayyim al-Jawziyya believed that unbelievers will come out of hell eventually. I have not read it, but you can search online for this article

It was published in the magazine called "The Muslim World", in January 2009 by Jon Hoover
Ibn Qayyim al-Jawziyya is not a small or fringe scholar.
In these two verses in the Quran
One day will He gather them all together, (and say) "O ye assembly of Jinns! Much (toll) did ye take of men." Their friends amongst men will say "Our Lord! we made profit from each other but (alas!) we reached our term - which thou didst appoint for us." He will say "The Fire be your dwelling-place you will dwell therein for ever, except as Allah willeth." for thy Lord is full of wisdom and knowledge.
Those who are wretched shall be in the Fire There will be for them therein (nothing but) the heaving of sighs and sobs
They will dwell therein for all the time that the heavens and the earth endure, except as thy Lord willeth for thy Lord is the (sure) accomplisher of what He planneth.God adds "except as Allah willeth" in these two verses. So it might be that Allah Wills to end the presence of unbelievers in Hell, but that is only based upon his wills. And in the verse following God says,
And those who are blessed shall be in the Garden They will dwell therein for all the time that the heavens and the earth endure, except as thy Lord willetha gift which shall never be cut off
In this verse God also says "except as Allah willeth" but adds, unlike the verses for Hell, that this Garden, so Paradise, is "a gift which shall never be cut off." It is a nuance also worth pondering upon, as people of both Hell and Paradise will dwell therein, but in the case of Paradise, and only Paradise, God mentions that it is "a gift which shall never be cut off."
Then we can note that the recompense of an evil is just its equivalent. I do not know how this fit into the "supposed" eternity of Hell, but this is something to think about, as the words "Abada" , "khaliduna", "Ahqab" that are usually translated as eternity for the duration of Hellfire, could indeed mean eternity, as well "as very long time" in arabic.

Whoever shall come with a good deed will gain ten times the like thereof; but whoever shall come with an evil deed will be requited with no more than the like thereof; and none shall be wronged.

Hell is meant for purification.
Quite in accordance with the idea of paradise as a place of unending progress to higher stages of life is the idea of hell, where punishment is not meant for torture but for purification, in order to make a man fit for spiritual advancement...
..."And I have not created the jinn and the men except that they should serve Me" (5156).
They must, therefore, ultimately be made fit for service of God, and that is the higher life. With all its fearfulness, hell is called a maula (patron) of the sinners, in one place (5715), and their umm (mother) in another (1019). Both these descriptions of hell are a clear indication that hell is meant only to purify a man of the dross which he has accumulated with his own hands, just as fire purifies gold of dross. In fact, it is to point to this truth that the Holy Qur'an uses the word fitnah (which originally means the assaying of gold, or casting it into fire to purify it of dross), both of the persecutions which the faithful are made to suffer (2191); 292; 2910) and of the punishment which the evildoers shall suffer in hell (3763), where the food which those in hell shall be given is called fitnah, because the object in both cases is the same, the faithful being purified through persecutions and the evildoers by hell-fire. Therefore hell is called a patron of the sinners, because, through suffering, it will make them fit for spiritual progress; and it is called a mother of the sinners to show that its connection with them is that of a mother with her child, the sinners being brought up, as it were, in the bosom of hell. The fire is a source of torment, but it is also a purifier. The keenness of the torment of the other life is due to the keener perception of the soul, which is the necessary result of its separation from the earthly vessel. Bliss and torment, therefore, grow keener in that life.
Punishment of hell not everlasting.
"He will say The Fire is your abode--you shall abide therein, except as Allah please. Surely thy Lord is Wise, Knowing." 6128
"Then as for those who are unhappy, they will be in the fire; for them therein will be sighing and groaning--abiding therein so long as the heavens and the earth endure, except as thy Lord please. Surely thy Lord is Doer of what He intends." 11106-7
Both there verses show clearly that the punishment of hell is not everlasting...
