In any meaningful discussion the subject matter has to be clearly identified or specified (defined). In all our discussions here, the subject matter is human being hence the need for clear definition.
The challenges in Islam is all about the interaction between one human being and another.

Human Beings = Homo Sapiens..
They share at least 99.99% identical DNA strain on their genes.. I don't know whether this is 'equal' or not..The species status on planet earth
- The most successful mammals on earth nearly 7 billion population now,
- Proved versatile and robust, could survive the arid desert of Arabia up to the icy cold temperature in south pole.
- Albeit considered as the 'most intelligent' carbonic being on earth, it is clearly proven in many occasions; including in this forum;
That they are also the 'most stupid and ridiculous' being on earth.. - The being also uniquely known for their 'creativity', they could fantasies on things or story which does not exist.
- The being also known to be very social, they like to group among themselves which shares a certain commonality / fantasies / opinions.
- The being also known to be very aggressive especially to those among themselves which DOES NOT share a certain commonality/ fantasies / opinions.
- Based on the latest study of the species's mtDNA strain, it can be derived that the species originally evolved from Africa and wandered using their silly two legs to nearly every corner of the planet earth.
- The species are the strangest species on planet earth given they're the only species on that planet which feel 'ashamed' of their reproductive organs and always try to cover it with something.
- The species again are the weirdest species on earth given they have the tendency to 'punish' those among their own species who does not feel 'ashamed' of their reproductive organs and/or did not cover it 'properly'.

We all are of the same species. This means there is a general set of characteristics we all fall under. That's as "equal" as we get.
Another way to look at quranically is that as this world's life is a passing test, nobody is currently truly anything at all. We are all students taking a test, and in this exam all are given equal precedence. But some students are studying different subjects, rich people are tested in what they will do with their wealth, poor people are tested with how they will keep their faith in destitution. At the end of the test is where the inequality comes in. Some students will pass, and these are most definitely above those that have failed themselves.

I like your metaphor of 'student taking an exam'.
And I would like to 'extend' that metaphor that within such exams the rules are- The students are free to write whatever answers inside their respective answer sheet..
- The students are allowed to discuss among them.
- The students are NOT ALLOWED to force their own answers to other students.
- The students are required to maintain good behavior during the exams, those who are not shall be expelled out of the class and fail the exam.

And if Allah had known any good in them He would have made them hear, and if He makes them hear they would turn back while they withdraw.So we may understand that stupidity has its place. If ignorant people were made to see/hear they would spread evil and transgress. So they are not allowed. Imagine if Ghenghis Khan had nukes.

What is the clear definition of a human being? Are all human beings equall - in what sense? What is the status of a human being in the world?
Not all human beings are equal. This is obvious if anyone perceives with their senses.
Some human beings are bad, some are good, some harm, some benefit, some are poor, some are rich, some are tall, some are short, some are women, some are men, some are homosexuals, some are heterosexuals.
Why do people ask ridiculous things? Is it just so that I have to go around speaking common sense? Is it that you want my brain to do the thinking while you sit back and relax?! Making slaves of all of us, yet another proof that not all of us are equal.
Some people are rich, some people are poor.
The noblest of all, according to the Qur'an, is the one who fears God the most.
Not only are not all people equal in ANY WAY (and if they were literally "the same" they would just be ONE PERSON, not many).
Being a human being is a type of "experience", what you are is an "experience", and not ANY "experiences" are the "same" because if they were the "same" combination of information, they are just the "same" experience, the same person, there can only be One of anything. God encompasses all our experiences, but God's experience is thus different from ours, so though God sees and experiences all the information that is us and our experience (which is us), God still has access to more and the overall experience of experiencing all those combinations and "being God", so not the "same" really even though our information is included in what God experiences or "knows".
The Qur'an makes it clear that human beings are not equal with one another, they are all different, though in many cases there are people whose "hearts/understandings/minds are alike", which seems to mean that many evildoers think similarly to evildoers of the past and say similar things to this day, which is true and demonstrated by people still saying the kind of things the Qur'an quotes the people at the time as saying at least. Likewise, the Qur'an gives examples of Prophets having similar beliefs and religions to each other, "of his (Noah's) persuasion was Abraham" and stuff like that.
The humans are "just another creation of Allah", and in that sense "equal" to everything else, which is basically to say, you're just "information" like any other "information" created by Allah, Allah alone is the power, and you're in that sense "nothing" but whatever God wills, a slave forever.
Though in the nitty gritty of the world, it is clear that there is no equality, not in your shapes, not in your experiences, not in your wealth, or what you see or know, God is always greater, and the only time there is ever any equality is in the fact that God is the sole power and there is no power other than God, so we are all equally as powerless as the wind or the sea or the sand.
