    Salamu Alaykum...
I was wondering if anyone can help me answer a question that has been bothering me for a while..
Everyone makes mistakes and does things they regret...sadly I have done many things I wish I hadn't...
And we all know that the important thing is to repent nd try not to make the same mistake again...but will I ever know if I have been forgiven? Or will I have to repent for the same sin till the day I die? Can I ever smile nd say Allah has forgiven me or will I always have my doubts? Is there any verse in the Quran that will put my mind at ease nd make me feel confident nd certain that Allah has forgiven me? please...I need answers...

      Allah forgives sins Surah 3135, 838, 2082, 6111-12

"Say to the unbelievers, if they give over He will forgive them what is past; but if they return, the wont of the ancients is already gone!" Surah 838

""And repentance is not for those who go on doing evil deeds, until when death comes to one of them, he says Surely now I repent; nor those who die while they are unbelievers. These are they for whom We have prepared a painful chastisement." Surah 418

The only unforgivable sin is idolatry - associating partners with Allah
"Surely Allah does not forgive that anything should be associated with Him, and He forgives what is besides this to whom He pleases; and whoever associates anything with Allah, he indeed strays off into a remote error." Surah 4116

Good deeds remove evil deeds Surah 2271, 6160, 9121, 1697

"If you publish your freewill offerings, it is excellent; but if you conceal them, and give them to the poor, that is better for you, and will acquit you of your evil deeds; God is aware of the things you do." Surah 2271

"Whoso brings a good deed shall have ten the like of it; and whoso brings an evil deed shall only be recompensed the like of it; they shall not be wronged." Surah 6160

"And whosoever does a righteous deed, be it male or female, believing, We shall assuredly give him to live a goodly life; and We shall recompense them their wage, according to the best of what they did." Surah 1697

If you repent and amend your ways -stop doing what is sinful - you prove through your actions you do not want to return to being among the lost.
If you spend out of what Allah provides - giving to the poor, needy, wayfarer, near of kin - and do good deeds, you prove through your actions that you are upholding the deen of Al-Islam.
If you return to your old ways, you have not repented and you will be called to account for your sins.

      Do good deeds. )

Turn to Allah and ask Him to guide you. He is Forgiving, Loving. Surah 8514

May Allah increase the believers in knowledge.

      Peace.

Red highlight above is from me.

        Verse 3953

Say "O 'Ib?d? (My slaves) who have transgressed against themselves (by committing evil deeds and sins)! Despair not of the Mercy of All?h, verily All?h forgives sins all together. Truly, He is Oft-Forgiving, Most Mercifu

The only UNFORGIVABLE SIN IS SHIRK/associating partners with ALLAAH, SWT. See verses 448, 4116, and 572 below.

Lo! Allah forgiveth not that a partner should be ascribed unto Him. He forgiveth (all) save that to whom He will. Whoso ascribeth partners to Allah, he hath indeed invented a tremendous sin.

Lo! Allah pardoneth not that partners should be ascribed unto Him. He pardoneth all save that to whom He will. Whoso ascribeth partners unto Allah hath wandered far astray.

They surely disbelieve who say Lo! Allah is the Messiah, son of Mary. The Messiah (himself) said O Children of Israel, worship Allah, my Lord and your Lord. Lo! whoso ascribeth partners unto Allah, for him Allah hath forbidden paradise. His abode is the Fire. For evil-doers there will be no helpers.

        Peace,
        Khalil

          Salam,

That thought brings me to my knees. All the years of avoiding the Qur'an. And following whatever people says, whatever the so called scholars tell me is "Sahee" . I have taken them as my commander beside Allah, unknowingly. I dont know if Allah will accept my repentance but as per his command, I will repent and not repeat those actions. I pray that Allah forgives us.

          PEACE

if i hurt someone, then i need to make things right with that person seeking forgiveness and making amends. and if that is not possible, then i turn to God saying listen, i cannot make things right with the person who i hurt but please forgive me for what i had done. God knows we are not perfect. we make mistakes - some major ones. i can't go back in time and erase the past. the past is the past. you live and you learn, growing as a person becoming a better human being. i can't live the rest of my life feeling awful and guilty for my past mistakes. it will hold me back from growing spiritually. you have to forgive yourself.

it is only in the life hereafter that we will all know if God has forgiven us. hopefully, we will have earned God's forgiveness. each and every day, you ask God for forgiveness and try to be good to yourself and others.
