Halal? not Halal?non

Big debate that has been going on amongst sectarians and Quran alone. Halal meat.. Some say any meat that is eaten where Gods name was not invoked at the initial sacrifice does not make the food halal. Some say the Quran does not mention whether it is halal before or after the fact, only that it must be invoked for the food to be lawful. Quran says food of the people of the book is halal. So some argue regular super market meat is lawful, some say it is not. The halal meat shops seem to take advantage of muslims, and as such prices are usually twice as much if not more. For a Muslim to charge it is clear taking advantage for personal gain rather then giving service to fellow believers. But much debate has arised that much of the meat distributed to these halal shops are in fact non halal in the sacrificial sense, and get passed off as halal. For instance in New Jersey the distributor slaughters some 60 or 80 animals of day in Islamic tradition, and some 6 to 10 pounds of meat are distributed to all the shops. While shops carry more than this amount the rest is labeled as halal. Also I have crossed a halal meat shop with pigs hanging next to the cows... Seemed Ironic. I have been abstaining from regular market meat as much I can. But a brother posed the question if Meat is only halal at the initial slaughter why does Allah permit to eat what your hunting animal kills or catches for you. Which is why I brought up the subject. If anyone has wondered and researched this matter for themselves I would greatly appreciate their sources to get a starting point for my research. Peace be upon you all

And eat not of that whereon Allah's name hath not been mentioned, for lo! it is abomination. Lo! the devils do inspire their minions to dispute with you. But if ye obey them, ye will be in truth idolaters.
What I understand from the verse is that, WHATEVER we are about to eat, we must mention name of GOD on it, before consumption. I do not think it is about eating sacrificial meat only.

I am totally left confused due to so many different interpretations. I do not eat of anything on which the name of Allah was not mentioned that is before they were killed and at the time I am eating it). For me, the matter of halal/haram meat goes much more deeper. I personally dont like many methods of killing the animal that are practiced in the industry. If I eat randomly from any store in town, I wouldnt know the source of the meat, hence the way the animal is likely to be treated till death. This is the reason I stick to some suppliers with certain certificates for animal welfare and traditional mentioning of Allah's name. This is the least I can do from my part to not support insane amount of animal cruelty. The rest I leave upto Allah.
As for the interpretation of the verses in a way to adapt to mentioning Allah's name just at the point of eating it, I am having serious problems. Pray for me, that Allah shows me the right way, if He wills, non can misguide me
