How I cam to true Islam!
-
Salam and peace to all,
I could say I was a blind follower in Sunni Islam, following my mother and grandparents and accepting whatever was given to me at my mosque I attended everyday for class sessions. Upto the the age of 14 I practised my faith diligently, aiming to be the best muslim. However I disagreed with the punishments of adultery, apostasty etc. I disagreed that music was haram. I disagreed that the beard was compulsory among many other laws within Sunni Islam. Where was the rationality behing such laws. How could such laws be from an all-knowing and merciful Creator?
Before making any hasty decisions, I purchased an English translation of the Quran by Yusuf Ali as his translation was quite popular. I did this in order to verify whatever my parents, friends and Islamic teachers had been feeding me was the word of God. However the Quran did not contain anything of the sort and I was shocked. Infact what I was practising was alot different to what the Quran was speaking. Was most of Islam really based on Hadiths? I believed in Hadith but always assumed they were minor sayings compared to the Infallible Glorious Quran.
So my journey took me to investigate Hadith and why we Muslims give them much importance when it should be the Quran we follow. Since the beginning Hadith have always seemed a shady to me. After finding out that these so called "sayings of the Prophet Muhammad" were written down centuries after his death and the fallicies within, I turned into a total skeptic. Was this the religion I had been following? One of superstition and illogical arguments? Although I had read the Quran, I wondered why an omnipotent God would allow such fabrication into the true religion. From thereon I remained a skeptic for months. Often I would lay on my bed at night begging any God for a sign but to no avail. I couldn't fathom a Universe which came to existence without a higher power or life on Earth which somehow came to be without a guiding force.
I considered Judaism and Christianity but both the Torah and Bible had numerous contadictions and immoral verses. However I was surprised at how similar both scriptures were to the Quran and rememerbed the Quran saying it verifies the previous scriptures of Torah and Injeel (303) however the Quran didn't contain the fallicies of the previous scriptures which had been corrupted by men. For some reason I found this to be quite a relief and re-read the Quran. There were many verses citing the Quran to be taken as the only source of law and the messenger himself was only a warner and had no knowledge of the future. Time and time again The Glorious Quran reminded me how all of mankind and Jinn would not be able to produce such a book even if they collaborated and helpedone another. The Quran was indeed a miracle which would have been impossible for an anyone to replicate let alone an Arab in the middle of a desert.
There was still alot I wasn't sure of so I checked the internet to see if there was anyone like me and to my surprise I found many websites promoting Quran-Alone. This was a huge relief as now I knew that I wasn't alone! Indeed God the merciful guides those who rid themselves of idolatry and are willing to learn the truth. sun
One day, somehow I found this website and the articles were very helpful in helping me understand the wisdom behind the Quran. Since November 2010 I had been a long time lurker on the forums and finally decided to sign up a few weeks ago in order to learn more. To this day I thank Allah the almighty in guiding me to the truth. Allah's signs are numerous yet the majority still deny.
Unfortunately my close Sunni friends are deeply rooted into their Sunni faith and I do not have the courage in debating them. I pray that Allah gives me more knowledge and courage so I can debate them and expose their fallicies. pr Ultimately, if they seek the truth sincerely, Allah with guide them with truth as he promised in the Glorious Quran.
Today I strive to learn more not only in the message of Allah but in all subjects such as Maths, Sciences, History etc as this would help me gain a good understanding of Allah and his system. And strive to follow the Quran only to the best of my abilities. pr
May Allah guide us all to the truth and tank you for reading this long story. I could have gone alot more in depth but decided not to keep it from getting too long. ;D
May peace and blessings be upon you all. )

Peace Paki Assassin,
This story reminds me of how I came to Islam. I was interested in it but my Pakistani friends could never explain it to me. Sure they could recite the Qur'an in Arabic but they had no idea what it talked about. Therefore, I had to research Islam on my own. I first found out about Islam through Tolu-e Islam, a Quran only movement that originated in Pakistan by G.A Parwez I believe. Thank God, I didn't fall into the trap of Sunnism and the Hadiths.
I am still learning and I do not claim to know everything that is correct, but may God guide us all. Do not debate with your friends as you clearly stated that God guides whom he wills. With my close paki friend, I would bring up issues within Sunnism (or cultural Pakistani Islam) and ask him why they believed in such and such a thing and talk about it. It is the job of all Muslims to invite to God, not a religion. That's why for me, I can talk with Christians and other people without necessarily bringing them to "Islam" but try and help them better Christians.
Thanks for sharing your beautiful story. I agree that we should not only study Qur'an but seek other knowledge in order to try and understand at least a little piece of God's system. God advises us to seek knowledge.
Peace
