I fast for 10 days during the month of Ramadhan - which happens to always occur in/around December 21/22.

To Ayman A follower of Qur?an only, living in the far north of Sweden would like to know how he is supposed to fast during the peak of summer. The full moon is visible during the summer months, however the sun never sets there, in that season, so how is he supposed to start and finish his fast and when; after he witnesses the full moon?
To Layth In winter there is constant night, as the sun never rises so, according to your theory, he would have a very long Leilat ul Qadar, but when does that night start and and how, and when is he supposed to fast according to the Qur?an?
As I understand it, according to traditonal Ramadan practice he can fast when he is able to witness the month of Ramadan when it falls during those years when there is a clear division of day and night, ie in spring and autumn, but cannot fast at all on the two occasions given by Ayman and Layth

"Laylat Al-Qadr" is tied to the month of Ramadhan, and the month of Ramadhan is tied to being "witnessed".
So, if a person is unable to "witness" this month, then he is not required to fast.
To answer the "endless night" question, a person would only know if he/she were to monitor the longest night in the northern hemesphere and allign himself/herself to that time.

Witness as physical senses/sensors; sight, hearing, touch, smell and taste does not account for when it is cloudy or other obstructions or the blind or those with poor sight. More precise is affirmation as used below; an intent made in the present to fast in the future.
2185 shr ramadan the one which sent down in it the Qur?an guidance to the mankind and clear signs from the guidance and the criterion so who affirms from you the shr so he should fast it and from is illness or on journey so count from days other intends Allah for you the ease and not intends for you the hardship and you complete the count and to magnify Allah on what He guided you and that you may give thanks

The god told us that those who can abstain but with difficulty can instead feed the needy. So this would apply to anyone living in an area where the day is excessively long.

The question is not about ?who can abstain but with difficulty? but simply about the division of the day ?seek what Allah Hath ordained for you, and eat and drink, until the white thread of dawn appear to you distinct from its black thread; then complete your fast Till the night appears?; 2187
The problem is that, during the summer when, according to Ayman, one is reguired to fast there is continuous daylight in the north of Sweden and continuous darkness during the winter when, according to Layth, one is supposed to fast. hmmpeace

I am not sure why you keep saying that one is supposed to fast during endless nights or continuous daylight.
The Quran is clear on the subject of "witnessing the month". The people you refer to, or the people on the moon or in space etc. cannot "witness" this month as it is unique to the northern hemesphere - hence they are not required to fast.

Thank you for your reply. I am glad to know that, unlike Ayman, you do believe in witnessing the month, and that is the traditional understanding of Ramadan, as this is the month known from the Qur?an 2183 O ye who believe! fasting is prescribed to you as it was prescribed to those before you, that ye may (learn) self-restraint,- tattaqoona.
According to the traditonal lunar Ramadan everyone would get the chance to fast as the month of fast revolves around the year, but according to your understanding of Ramadan in December, you would deprive a number of people of participating in seeking Allah (tattaqoona) by limiting this to the winter time when part of world is unable to witness the month.
I believe Allah deprives no one, including the blind, of the chance to attain salvation, as the Qur?an is the guidance for all mutaqeen living on this earth. Those in space would get the chance to fast once they arrive back to earth, but those who are permanently living near the poles would miss out on the blessed month and the blessed night. (peace

You witness birth of new moon of Ramadan and then fast in that month, like human life cycle, from birth to prime age and then back to weak and old stage = age.

Its not about minority or majority fasting but its about equall opportunity for all those who witness the month of Ramadan.
So according to your winter Ramadan a part of muminen can never fast with the rest of the muminen because they live near the poles so, despite not being ill nor finding it difficult to fast, they must wait till the day break happens, whereas the month of Ramadan according to AQ would include them with everyone else when Ramadan falls in spring or autumn? peace -

I've read those interesting articles... but I do not understand inconsistencies...
First it says Miriam didn't bore Jesus as any common woman, so she didn't need 9 months as usual., then it says it calculates when he was conceived, being 9 months before September?
Then, the 13th lunar month which appears now and then, should just be ignored... ???
In what way?And finally how long to we fast? 3 days, 10 or 30? And when? Each year the same month or rotating?

Why don't you all fast when everyone else is fasting? Then anything else too? Cover your bases I guess!
