    Guys....Salaam

I come from a broken family. Well, not me but my parents. I have seen the anguish in my father's face when speaking about his childhood and it is only God that kept him on the right path, he could have as easily ended up on the wrong side, if you know what I mean.

When I read the Quran the first time the verse about being allowed to marry more than one woman made absolutely crystal clear sense to me, right from the beginning.

Allah doesn't care about you (in this case). He sees children growing up without a family, unprotected. All he wants you and me to do is to not let that happen.
Allah doesnt care if you are having problems keeping up with multiple wives, he doesnt care if you are jealous. As long as his children are happy and well fed and raised in a good home, he is happy.
He knows that when a man marries a woman he is obliged to take care of her. Their children, blood related or not, will therefore be protected and cared for as well, and that is all he wants, his children to be safe.

Now, modern society has all kinds of systems to take care of the single moms and orphans so I don't really see the point in for example, a saudi man having four wives......BUT, if those systems fail we (men) are obliged to take care of the orphans and their mothers, and the only bond that will make us keep our obligation is marriage. Correct me if I'm wrong but I have not seen any other kind of obligation in the Quran towards a woman that would automatically protect her offspring as well.

Feminist or not, that is the hard truth. If all backup systems and dried powder milk would disappear, then babies do not survive without their mothers. A mother cannot work and take care of her baby on the same time, at least she will struggle very hard to raise her children in a happy and safe environment. Therefore she needs help and she needs the help to be founded on an obligation. When does an obligation in Allahs name command you to take care of another human? Marriage.

I am sorry for not explaining, it makes sense in my head though..........Protect the children, even if it means you have to marry the mothers. You do not seek a second, third or fourth wife, it is not your choice, you got nothing to do with it. You are just a vessel for God to keep his children safe. You will marry if a mother needs help and when you do, you have in the eyes of Allah made an obligation to protect and serve. You are bound by his law.

Very harsh words. With a slight hint of male chauvinism. (eg." You are just a vessel for God to keep his children safe.&quot

This itself is not the only purpose of women. Remember that women are equal to men. The only difference is that women and men have different TASKS. For example think of two people taking an exam but with different answers but with the same score. We are different and we do have different tasks but all in all we are both equal.

Now the issue of polygamy i don't believe that today it is as necessary as it was 'back then'. You have to remember that 'back then' was the "Wild West period" The world didn't give a damn about women's rights. And a lot of men didn't have respect for women either. So you can imagine the type of life women had to live. No respect, and no means to live by one's self . Independent women was not a practice that was possible 'back then'. However today is another issue. Women (with children ) don't need men to provide for them. Women can do that themselves. The World is different now. There is rarely if ever the need for polygamist marriages today (except if you are a believer who lives in the "Islamic world/Hell " where women are stripped of there rights. And are unable to become independent )

    Peace,

    Kevin.

      Salaam Kevin

Sorry for not being clear, we (men)
are just a vessel for God to keep his children safe
. I agree with you about the rest. Hmmm, maybe not about the equality thing. I think of myself as the servant of my family. I am here to provide for and protect them, I am not the master. My wife is my master, I am nothing compared to her. I am a schmuck and a hopeless romantic.

For the rest, I am in total agreement with you. In today's world (in my world at least) I cannot see any reason for polygamy. And just like you said, back then was a totally different story. But Allah's word is for all time, we don't know if how our future will look like, He does. All I know is that if the you know what hits the fan, my obligation is to take care of the kids, even if it means I have to have more than one wife. I don't know about you but I do not see polygamy as something positive, on the contrary actually. But I understand Allah's wish to keep the children safe

Emil you are right. Of course we have to care about the children. Thats why Quran allows a woman to marry upto four husbands as well, in order to give motherless children a mother. Everyone who lost his mother knows how important a mother is for the family. Without a mother the whole family would be seen unprotected and broken. The truth is that children needs a mother! So in cases where there are lack of women in the society it makes perfectly sense that a woman have multiple widov husbands in order to give a sense of motherhood to their children. Depriving children from a mother is opression.

So yes when children dont have a father they are unprotected and thus a man should marry four women, and when children dont have a mother they are also unprotected and go through serious mental problems so hence its preferable that a woman marry four husbands in order to take care of the children.

And I know that most husbands dont like to share their wives and you would not like to share your wife with three other men, but Allah does not care about you (in this case) all he cares about is the children who is being deprived of motherhood and thats why marry more than one husband makes absolutely crystal clear sense to me, right from the beginning.

        peace

Do I detect a hint of sarcasm?

You missed my point of babies not able to survive without their mothers. If you think primitive, think caveman, then maybe you get it. It kind of hurts to say it but it does make sense, the cave feels a lot safer when my dad is around. If my dad is not around but another dude it kinda feels safe too. But I cannot trust the dude, maybe he will run away chasing a mammuth or something and leave me here unprotected, what if my mother went away as well? I wish there was a way that I could trust him to stick around, how can I make him feel obliged to protect me? What "bond" has Allah shown me? In what way can I make him protect me, eventhough both my parents go away?

I am not talking about today's world, of course not. We (humans) have evolved and enforced the whole of society to protect the orphans, but what makes you think that tomorrow will lead to evolvement going forward? In his wisdom Allah knows that times are different. What he has given us are guidelines for the core essentials, for the absolute bottom, for the absolute beginning. You think that when the Quran was sent down it were the words for here and after. No, of course not. It is for here, after and before.

And as for a woman marrying four men, why not? I trust you when you say there is nothing in the Quran, I have not thought about looking. I only have my opinion and that is it would probably not work. Men are like five million more times jealous than women, we do not have the braincells to understand the concept of sharing a woman. We are beneath you in so many ways. We are one step outside the cave, one foot still inside.
But if I may point out that (correct me if I'm wrong) the verses in the Quran regarding the subject are directed towards the man, right? It is not my fault that men (the majority it seems) see those verses as justification to have as many wives as possible. I see something totally different. . It didn't (when reading the Quran the first time) even cross my mind that I actually had to marry more than one woman, all I saw was Allah saying, nay telling, to do my outmost to protect the kids.

So nice to see that you are very concerned about prostitution. Of course we can not accept women being prostitutes even if they like it. But you see, the problem is just that there are some poor men in this world as well. How can we then stop these men from becoming prostitutes also? Isn't it then better that these men become the second or third or fourth husbands of a rich lady ? After all, its certainly better for a man to become the fourth husband of a rich lady then to become a male prostitute or some gay. And as you mentioned the important thing is that its between consenting adults, so if a rich lady can afford to protect some men financially in stead of letting them become public propterty and if she can handle it, then she should go for multiple husbands bravo

          Salam

          Peace sister,

I am sorry if my post seemed rude, I didn't mean it that way. Some points to clarify my position

          • I am not saying that for women it is either polygamy or prostitution, meaning that if they don't accept polygamy then they will go prostitution... I gave it just as an example, and I admit it was harsh. Surely the majority of women are hardworkers (more than men) and more honest as per my experience.

          • We can't say that polygamy was only acceptable in the old days, because even now in the 21st century, we find many communities still living in the middle ages... or even in the forests. So such instructions in the quran are still needed in these days and can still be applied.

          • I am living in a third world country, and I see everyday how women are treated by the society. They are as servants to their male masters, except the women that have chosen to be liberated or had a chance of being educated. But for most in the rural areas, women are counted along with the cattles. This is the crude reality.

          • In some poor villages, some families are pushing their daughters into prostitution to earn some money, with the agreement of their fathers, mothers and brothers... It is really a sad situation, and surely it wil not change anytime soon.

That is why I told in my previous post that life is not easy for some women, and that being protected in a polygamious mariage is (relatively) better for them than prostitution. And about 43, in whatever way we may understand this verse, there should be some orphans involved to allow polygamy, it is certainly not for men's pleasure.

As for polyandry, the god knows best. But for me it does not seem so godly, even if for some men it doesn't cause a problem, to the contrary it gives them (apparently) some satisfaction... whatever

I hope this clarifies my previous post.

Hello emil. I think you are right that men are more jalous than women. I mean, would you for instance like to share your wife with three other men? And how would you feel that she is the mother of your children as well as the mother of three other mens children, hence she would divide her time between you all justly. You would properly feel jalous and bad. But didn't you in uour previous post emphasized that god does not care about you but only cares about the children? So whats the problem with sharing your wife with widov men if that means that some children would get a mother ? Well regarding quran than there is no verse who Says that a woman can marry only one. So there are no quranic reason for prohibiting polyandry.

              Salaam dear sis

Please understand, and please read back on my previous posts. I have never ever suggested that women should not have the same "rights" as the men. When I read the Quran I read it as Allah is speaking to me, not to you. Whenever the Quran directs my attention to my relation towards the opposite sex, then I read it as a man, not as an objective non-sexual being.
Now, please understand that I never (I swear to you) saw the verses regarding polygamy as anything to do with MY rights as a man. I have always seen it as my duty bestowed on me as a MAN to protect the children, regardless of bloodline. I actually do not like it, I can not imagine loving more than one woman, so I fear I would be a bad husband to all but one of my wives. But Allah has asked me look beyond that and instead protect the kids. I do not really understand why Allah would go to such extreme measures to protect the innocent, in my case it would be sufficient to let me know that it's not ok to let a child grow up without safe surroundings, but He knows better, so who am I to question?
Now, what guide there is for you (woman) with regards to your relation to the opposite sex I have absolutely no religious right to have an opinion, that is between YOU and Allah. Of course I can have wordly opinions, just like I gave you before. I have however the right to discuss and oppose a man if he does not share my opinion about what Allah wants from us as men.

So please dear sis, see the differences between my wordly opinion and what I think Allah has bestowed on me as a man. And unless I am directly asked by a woman about my thoughts about Allah's decree towards the women I will zip it.

                Peace,

Why ask clarification and when given, keep posting the same -- was this not clear?

Consider all verses on divorce and inheritance becomes a hairball woman married multiple to husbands.

2230 so if he divorces her so not lawful to him from after until she marries a spouse other than him so if he divorces her so not sin on them that they return back if they think that they keep limits Allah and these limits Allah He makes clear for people who know

412 and for you half what left your spouses if not is for them child so if is for them child so for you the fourth from what they left ...

Also consider who is the father of the child?
Also consider distributions to all husbands?

Example a woman with 4 husbands (not permitted) and 4 children 2 boys and 2 girls (fathers not determined) leaves property; please divide according to Qur'an, how much each husband gets 1/2 or 1/4 and how to determine if for them a child and which husband fathered which child and what's left to give the the children or for her parents if alive?

Qur'an does not force anyone to marry anyone or stay married to anyone and gives guidance clearly permissible for a man to marry multiple women and clearly not permissible for a woman to marry more than one man at time and there is a waiting period after divorce to ensure there is no pregnancy before she can remarry or even let her guard down e.g. breast feeds her child around another man.

Simply read the book triangulate the information and use logic before making inaccurate statements.

Again you are talking without evidence. It is your personal opinion that women should not marry multiple husbands and not the view of quran. Again i am challenging you to show me where quran prohibits a woman from marry four husbands. Your personal opinion means nothing. And are you talking about inheritance then her husbands and kids would get everything divided justly just like when a man has multiple wives. Seems like you consider women to be inferiors to men. Do you have something against women since you accuse them of not being able to handle responsibility? Again next time show me evidence from quran in stead of your own anti-
                  Women fantasies.

                    Greetings and Peace, all group

AQ is pretty clear about the circumstances under which an individual man can have multiple wives.

Some Quranic passages that might yield meaning relating to multiple husbands for an individual woman seem to be the following

6120 And leave what is openly a sin and what is subtle of it; those who earn sin will be punished for what they have taken.

733 Say "My Lord has made unlawful lewdness; what is evident of it and what is subtle; and sin, and aggression without cause, and that you set up partners with GOD that which He has never authorized, and that you say about GOD what you do not know."

The definition of lewdness varies individually. There isn't a "cookie cutter" answer. If an individual feels conflicted, it is probably lewd for that person tempt.

Nobody other than ALLAH has the legitimate authority to forbid what ALLAH has not forbidden &. Neither conjecture nor tradition are binding.

                    ALLAH knows best.

                    peace

Which age do you live in ?We have DNA test which shows who the father is. So a wife with many husbands can easily know who the father is and hence neither paternity or inheritance is a problem since children can inherit from both father and mother, similar to when a man merry several husbands. do you consider women to be inferior to men in managing inheritance responsibilities?
The verses you showed me did not said anything about how many husband's a girl can have. The first said that a woman has to wait some month if she wants to marry again. But a woman with multiple husbands is already married if one dies hence it does not apply for her. And secondly there was a verse who said that if a man divorce his wife she may first marry another husband and than they can unite. That can be applied both on women with one or more husbands. for Instance a woman has 4 husbands and one divorce her. He can not marry her before she marry another man again and hence again has 4 husban, the main point is that another man takes his place. I can show you similar verses which describes a man with only one spouse. So my question remains can you show me some verse where god forbids a woman to marry multiple husbands?

Very interesting read. I enjoyed all the comments and reading everyones thoughts.

I came from a broken home too Emil. Let me tell you, the jealous between my mother and my step-mother, put me in the worse position ever growing up. So though I understand your point God does not care if you are jealous, I am here to tell you that the jealousy even between a divorced couple is like poison to a child. So imagine 2 women fighting for the undivided love of one man. Us girls are emotional and romantic types, so it does hurt. That jealousy does trickle down to the children and it is not fair to them. Not everyone can act civilized, even for the sake of the kids.

With that said, I can see in the past the use of more than one since women were not where they are now, in terms of rights. I know sex is a touchy subject and some of us women could handle more than one. Not all libidos are the same. However, I have a deep love for my husband and would never want him to feel anything but security and confidence in our marriage. Even if there was a surplus of men and it was an option I would decline. Pretty much what Kevin said. I just could not hurt my spouse in that manner. If someone needed help I have food, money and time to share, just not my bed.

Wheresthetruth, many men will freak on your belief a women can have more the one, the shoe on the other foot does not always feel good. Interesting point you brought up though. I think most still hold firm that women don't like/enjoy sex or desire/crave intimacy. On discovery health the other day they discussed this it was very interesting when they compared the libidos of a women in her thirties to that of a teenage boy rotfl And there was a women with 2 husbands, she watched her cycle and she knew who the father was due to the schedule they had arranged for intamacy. They even all lived in the same house! It was crazy.

                          Peace all group

So my question remains can you show me some verse where god forbids a woman to marry multiple husbands?

                            Salaam sister WhereIsTheThruth,

Keep in mind that The Quran has 2 different ways to forbid something. Sometimes something is forbidden directly and sometimes indirectly.

Please read for example 2221 or 243. You will notice that here both the genders are mentioned this is necessary because otherwise people could make false assumptions.

Please read now for example 423.
You will notice that the person to who this verse is referring is a male. BUT actually it?s referring to both male and female but it?s not necessary to mention them both because the female knows exactly what is forbidden for her, even if it is only referring to the male.
Thus a female can understand verse 423 like this ?Forbidden are for you your SONS and your FATHER and your BROTHERS and the SONS OF YOUR FATHER etc??

Another point what you have to look at, is that you have to be careful with assumptions not based on the fundamental principles. You gave this example ?The verses you showed me did not said anything about how many husband's a girl can have. He can not marry her before she marry another man again and hence again has 4 husban, the main point is that another man takes his place.?

                            Let?s take husband=N
Why do you start your reasoning with N>1
As far as I know the woman of this planet are born with N=0
I hope you understand what I mean. You can never start an assumption with neglecting the fundamental principles else you will get false assumptions.

Now please reread all the marriage verses (actually all verses which have some law in them) again. But keep in mind that there are direct and indirect laws AND that you have to start your reasoning with a valid statement. I? am sure that you will come now to conclusion that it is forbidden for a woman to marry 2 men or more at the same time.

Ps I? am only talking about that it?s forbidden for a woman to have 2 or more husbands at the same time, I? am not talking about how many wives a man can have.

No, usually women are at an advantage getting more than their brothers especially an only daughter.

The verses you showed me did not said anything about how many husband's a girl can have. The first said that a woman has to wait some month if she wants to marry again. Example woman dies leaving parents, 3 daughters, and 3 husbands plus 1 husband she divorced.

Genetic tests prove that one current husband fathered 1 girl; another fathered the 2nd and the 3rd girl was from the 4th husband whom she divorced while still married to the others after waiting to give birth.

654 and those who have despaired from the menstruation from your women if you doubt so their waiting period three lunar cycles and those who not menstruated and those the pregnant their term that giving birth their loads and from fears Allah He make to him from his directive ease

412 and for you half what left your spouse?s if not is for them child so if is for them child so for you the fourth from what they left from after a will they made in it or judgment and for them the fourth from what you left if not is to you child so if is to you child so for them the eight from what you left from after a will you made in it or judgment and if is a man inherited kalala or a woman and them a brother or a sister so for each one from them the sixth so if they are more from that so they partners in the third from after a will is recommended in it or judgment not harmful a will from Allah and Allah Knowing Forbearing

Again i am challenging you to show me where quran prohibits a woman from marry four husbands. Your personal opinion means nothing.

But men are prohibited to marry the married woman.

And amongst women those are also forbidden/sanctified who are protected/is already a wedded pearl except such married believing women who are presently with you . Allah has prescribed this for you to follow it in letter and spirit.

And women other than identified ones have been made permissible-knot/restriction removed for you so that you sincerely seek them with your wealth in the manner of those who seek women to take them in the protective fold /to make them a pearl of their life/home; and not for seeking them with wealth in the manner of debauch men for sexual lust/merely for flowing out the "water".

So you say that despite that there are no verse in the quran who forbids a woman to have 2 or more husbands I will come to the ''logic'' conclusion that a man can have multiple wives but a woman cannot have multiple husbands? Can you please tell me where this socalled logic is?

Well as an arabic speaker I know what you are talking about regarding the arabic gramma, in Arabic when masculin gender is mentioned it applies for both men and women but when feminine gender is mentioned its for women exclusive. For instance if you have a large group with 50 girls and ONE boy you would mention them as a male group rotfl
So naturally as you mentioned quranic passages applies for both male and females when God males. For instance Quran in surah Nisa says 'Dont inherit women against their will'' Okay does that mean that we women can inherit men against their will since that passage is directed to men confused No - This applies for both genders. A man cannot inherit a woman against her will neither can a woman inherit a man against his will.
So there are two conclusions Since quran does not set any limits for how many husbands a female can have, it means that the verse 42-3 applies for both men and women(Both can have multiple spouses if it is for the sake of the orphans)
Otherwise it can means 42-3 is not about polygyny hence neither a man or woman can marry more then one.

                                    peaceh

412 and for you half what left your spouse?s if not is for them child so if is for them child so for you the fourth from what they left from after a will they made in it or judgment and for them the fourth from what you left if not is to you child so if is to you child so for them the eight from what you left from after a will you made in it or judgment and if is a man inherited kalala or a woman and them a brother or a sister so for each one from them the sixth so if they are more from that so they partners in the third from after a will is recommended in it or judgment not harmful a will from Allah and Allah Knowing Forbearing

Yes Quran is a logical book. Why should it allow polygyny for men and not for females? Any logical reasons not to allow polyandry???? Any verse in the quran who says a woman can not have multiple husbands?? No! So thats logic.

Actually I dont really understand you. What has mickey to do with anything? First you claimed that a woman with several husbands cannot know the father, I refuted your claim by simply reminding you of DNA test. By the way how do a husband with several wives knows that he is the father of their children? What if the wives had sex with someone else? So he cannot know for sure that he is the father, he just have to put his trust on his wives and expect that he is the father in contradiction to a woman with several husbands who has scientific facts on who the father of her children is, since DNA test is scientific proven. When you think about it, polyandry is much more better regarding the paternity of the children then polygyny, since 4 husbands of the same wife would for sure know who the father is because of DNA-test in contradiction to 4 wives of the same husbands where the paternity of the children is left to guesswork and trust.

I guess you could not find any verse in the quran who clearly says that a woman cannot marry four husbands, so know you are running in circles with other verses who have nothing to do with the subjec, hence your posts are being more and more confusing. The first verse from surah talaq which talks about the waiting period, read it again, did you regarded this and those who yet not menstruated/b] confused confused
Secondly you are again and again running in circles with inheritence verses which has again nothing to do with the subject. A child can inherit from both his mother and father. There are also women who marry 3-4 times in their lives and have kids from different men, hence their children also inherit from them.

Please come up with some relevant verses next time. I know you have some inner problem with females having multiple partners, but the reality is that what God has not forbid we can not forbid it either.

                                      Peace

But men are prohibited to marry the married woman.

And amongst women those are also forbidden/sanctified who are protected/is already a wedded pearl except such married believing women who are presently with you . Allah has prescribed this for you to follow it in letter and spirit.

And women other than identified ones have been made permissible-knot/restriction removed for you so that you sincerely seek them with your wealth in the manner of those who seek women to take them in the protective fold /to make them a pearl of their life/home; and not for seeking them with wealth in the manner of debauch men for sexual lust/merely for flowing out the "water".

Are you drunk? If not then how can you refer to this verse? For your kind information I am an arabic speaker. Mohasanat does not mean married. Its 'metzawja' which means married. Secondly I am not sunni hence the socalled tafsir by some mullah does not apply to me neither to the quran.
