Hi, Im in my 30s and from Maldives, a small island nation in the Indian Ocean which is 100% Sunni Muslim country. Here people follow traditional Sunni Islam, and as our constitution says - one has to be a Muslim to be a citizen here. Any way, this country has been 100% muslim for more than 1000 years.

I think it was two years back I started having doubt about some of the Hadiths. I have been learning Quran and reading Hadith for sometime. I came across some of the Hadiths that didnt make sense to me.

Some Hadith talk about lots of private stuff between Aisha and Mohammed. Some Hadith talk about sex techniques where prophet says it is ok to pull out (lol).

All these got me really thinking about it.

Anyway as the days passed I did more and more research and I have been browsing this site for a while. And have watched 100s of youtube videos, read so many articles, done research on both Islamic and Christian history for months.

This is when, I slowly realized there was more truth to what all of you have been saying in this site, than what I hear from other sources.

Now as we are a Sunni country, we have all sorts of religious Sheikhs and TV programs, constantly giving lectures of traditional Islam. I have openly critisized them when I am with my friends. (but theres always the danger that they might label me and do something)

(Even though it is a 100% sunni country, some people here are more liberal and open to ideas, especially the young - and i know there are lots of Athiests here as well, but they just dont want to admit it openly)

There are more people who are being slowly turning to extreme Sunni practices. Each Ramadhan, there are more and more women wearing Hijab (Not that I have an objection to it, but I always believed its not a requirement). Mosques are filled with long bearded guys and some young people too who just follows what they are being told.

Just wanted to let you guys know the situation here. I am happy with my beliefs and theres not much one can do here, cause almost every one who is religious, strictly follow the Sheikhs. No one dare argue with them. (ofcourse I would if i am confronted or in a situation where I have to).

Here, most people still memorize Arabic Dhuas, prays in arabic, and recites Arabic Quran, when very few people know what they are saying. They dont want to learn the meaning of it. They dont care much, They just follow what they are being told by Sheikhs.

I pray to Allah that He may guide me and strengthen my belief.

          Peace Ahmed,

Thanks for sharing your story. It's interesting to hear about the environment you're in, and I'm glad that even amongst all of those traditionalists you've managed to pull through and see the light.

I hope to see you around here.

          May peace be with you.

            Hi Ahmed,

thank you for sharing with us your experience .Unfortunately they prefer following the religion of their parents even if it's illogical.

            Peace.

                Salaam Ahmed,

Great to see you found truth in the Quran and the Quran only. It is indeed strange how every year there seems to be more and more religious Sunnis turning up. This isn't just visible in the maldives but in the UK, Pakistan, etc. For example my Aunty started wearing Hijab recently and my mum says so will she after she performs Umrah and then theres my muslim friends who are starting to wear Hijab. Not that I'm against it but it shouldn't be attributed to Islam.

The Maldives is a great place. It would be good to see a Quran Only movement gain some publicity there as it has the potential to spread far considering the small population.

There are a few 100 Non Muslims, a few dozen I have met on the internet, although I can't say they're Atheists. BTw, I'm Maldivian too.

Everything is imported, so yeah, we will come to a standstill if we dont get fuel, or anything for that matter.

Maldives is 97% sea, so we use desallinated water.

Maldives is not too poor. P Things are better there compared to other south Asian countries. It's just the people, that's all.

Also about your point about satan, I must say that if satan is evil, why isn't God trying to stop satan? Is he not willing to prevent evil or is he unable? >D

Not to Poor is Still Poor.

Poor, let set the Standard. Not in Dollar, Euros, Swiss Franc, or even Silver&Gold

Standard as in material for Living.
Electricity - Solar Panels, Wind Turbine, Giant Sea Snake Renewable Electricity Generation
Water - Solar Desalination, Filter using Independent Local Electric source

Now you mostly pay for your Internet Connection. Sunni can won if they can cut off Maldives from the rest of the world, Like Taliban Afghanistan.

Who provide the most sustainable advance technology prosperity will won. Sunni is the most economical since they don't need much in the first place (they'll might die if they don't know how to produce fresh water without electricity and fuel).

                                  or worst

Who can provide sustainable freshwater is the winner.

                                  6103
No vision can grasp Him, but His grasp is over all vision He is above all comprehension, yet is acquainted with all things.

above who's comprehension. Incomprehensible(what Profit/Poverty to god, Satan's existence?). Let's talk about Satan, he's space dust Poor. He can't get Heaven, That's why He's evil.

I'm just saying, who prepared for the worst is the winner. Peace.

As MUNZIR ALI has said, We are not a poor country, most of us have a high living standard compared to this region. It is true we are very much depended on other countries for almost everything which have to imported.

But the system has worked so far for many years. If theres a big war in the region and transportation and other means become difficult, yes, we will face a big problem.

People keep faith/religion away from most of their daily lives, and decisions as well. We dont have big religious fights and arguments since almost everyone is, "Sunni Muslim" .

I dont think there are too many people questioning or researching about their faith. They are just content with "following" what they have been told to a limit where they dont face a problem living among each other.
