    Greetings and Peace, all group

AQ addresses disbelief >. Does it address unbelief confused? The meanings can be distinct hmm. Definitions vary but here is the gist

?belief an opinion that a certain proposition is true
?unbelief lack of an opinion regarding a certain proposition
?disbelief an opinion that a certain proposition is false

    source http//www.secularplanet.org/2006/04/unbelief-disbelief.html

3176 And do not be saddened by those who rush into disbelief. They will not harm GOD in the least. GOD does not wish to make for them any share in the Hereafter, and they will have a painful retribution.

Why the word rush? The wording is deliberate, so it must have meaning. Perhaps it means "eager persons" and in this context "eager to go to hell?"

4140 And it has been sent down to you in the Book, that if you hear the revelations of GOD being rejected and mocked, then do not sit with them until they move on to a different narrative; if not, then you are like them. GOD will gather the hypocrites and the disbelievers in Hell all together.

2161 Surely, those who have disbelieved and then died as disbelievers; they will be cursed by GOD, and the angels, and all the people.

What about agnostics/soft atheists/unbelievers who claim/believe that not enough information exists to make a definite claim? Do they not uphold 1736?

1736 And do not uphold what you have no knowledge of. For the hearing, eyesight, and heart, all these you are responsible for.

Please provide as much Quranic evidence as possible for any claims in response(s).

    ALLAH knows best.

    peace

It`s really quite a statement to say "do not uphold what you have no knowledge of".

It is as God is encouraging knowledge of himself, and that of cultivating a personal connection to God. And of this, you can speak of, inshaAllah.

Polytheism is false, and cannot be experienced.

The statement (AQ 1736) is a negative one; it doesn't state "uphold what you have knowledge of" it states "do not uphold what you have no knowledge of." To me, AQ 1736 means start with a blank slate/tabula rasa and ONLY then fill it up with what <individual> confirms or has confirmed. This means not taking anything for granted...incredible claims require incredible proofs and such. It definitely encourages learning, thinking, and logic.

I don't know if polytheism can be experienced or not--all I know is that I have not experienced it--therefore I can't uphold it ;D. Let any who "experience" it uphold it, ISA . I suspect that there will be none!

The main question still stands Is there a Quranic stance on unbelief?

        ALLAH knows best.

        peace

          Peace Abdul Hadi

In my opinion it is "rejection" rather than unbelief/disbelief which is conveyed for "Kufr" in the Al Quran.

And on the other end of the scale it is "affirmation" rather than believe for "Ayman".

@warner Rejection and affirmation do make sense as meanings. The question is, what about the "middle ground" of neither rejecting nor affirming?

A coin can be oriented heads or tails--or stand on end. Many yes or no type questions in life are answered with "maybe" or a provisional answer.

ALthough I'm curious as to the answer, it won't kill me to not know it, ISA ). Maybe the answer to maybe is maybe.

            peace

              Peace,

I agree, it is to accept or to reject.

There is no middle ground here. You either accept the truth (open mind) or reject it (closed mind).

A person has one or the other. Even if they call themselves Muslim or Atheist, they will still sway in whichever direction. A lot of Muslims could perhaps be rejectors/hypocrites by quranic criteria. And a lot of atheists can be acceptors, even foremost in belief, provided they are acting in ignorance & working with the knowledge they have. In the spirit of justice, why would God send someone undeserving to Hell? It isn't going to happen.

This is a matter of the innermost heart, it's not really for us to judge however.

People pop out of the womb with their final eternal destination almost fixed. An acceptor has always been accepting and a rejector has always been rejecting. The trials of life simply seal the deal and prove that God's knowledge of those souls is correct. Even if a person is guilty, it is unfair to punish without trial.

is more into Disbelieving than unbelieving, to add...it is pushing away others who hold a probability to search and "Believe/secure" a good way in life..(Qur'an, ethics..etc)

                  Amen..

Just like the word.. AMN (Yes.. agree.. accept)

Those who are being labeled as 'kufr' (Conceal, Cover, Reject) are not those who 'have no opinion' or 'neutral' or merely 'reject/disagree', they're the one who reject the truth and do things to conceal it / stop it from being spread out. Usually those act consist of intimidation, torture, terror, murder / assassination and war / aggression / invasion.

Quran are lenient for those who 'have no opinion' and appreciate those who 'reasoned'.. that's what the message within Quran (and tanakh, bible and others) is all about... reasoning with human.. Quran (and tanakh, bible and others) never recommend people to hold a 'blind faith' yet it recommend people to reason to think to contemplate... Reason shall recognize truth in the end...

There are no compulsory in belief/opinion/attitude (dien) as truth stands out clear from error (2256)

The act of intimidation, torture, terror. murder and aggression to hide/conceal the truth from people is a common practice of 'evil' up until today. Some people calls it 'oppression' / 'oppressing the truth'. Those are the one who are being mentioned as 'kufr' in the Quran and not the one who merely reject/disagree or have no opinion...

A person has one or the other. Even if they call themselves Muslim or Atheist, they will still sway in whichever direction. A lot of Muslims could perhaps be rejectors/hypocrites by quranic criteria. Many people state disbelief / hate of 'something' because certain impression they have of 'something' due to the act of misinformation or intimidation regarding that 'something'.

This is a matter of the innermost heart, it's not really for us to judge however.

Again Amen... don't act like God... we're not God...

Don't judge lest you be judged.. for with the judgment you judge, you shall be judged and with what measure you mete, it shall be measured unto you. And why behold you the mote that is in your brother's eye, but consider not the beam that is in your own eye? Or how will you say to your brother, Let me cast out the mote out of your eye; and lo, the beam is in your own eye?

People pop out of the womb with their final eternal destination almost fixed. An acceptor has always been accepting and a rejector has always been rejecting. The trials of life simply seal the deal and prove that God's knowledge of those souls is correct. Even if a person is guilty, it is unfair to punish without trial.

Again don't judge that we know other people destination, we hardly know our own destination...
Judging soul (nafs/ruh) regarding their actions is God's affair not us..

                  Salam / Peace
