Muslims from a Christian background in the US?

I don't understand what is wrong with being "plain human being" as what in a manner of The God created all of us? There is no such thing in Quran such as "converting" from one religion to another. But there is only one thing a plain person who surrendered (muslim=surrendered, islam=surrendering) him/herself to God.

Converting and conversion only exist within sectarian mindset.. (or other exclusive group such as street gang or mafia)
Moslems are spread everywhere within any sects.. there are christian moslems, jewish moslem, sunni moslem, shiite moslem, buddhist moslem etc...Salam / Peace

As a new beginner to Quran, please don't give too much credit Muslims around you. You can caught into that trap easily if you follow their advices. Just find the truth in the Book for yourself. This Book is the most strange thing in this world. And it deserves more intellectual interaction.
Therefore set your face to the religion purely, the upright creation upon which He originated people. There is no changing of the creation of God. This is the valuable religion, although most people do not know ? (3030)

Almost the exact same except that I am a male. I do still have respect for the structure of the church and consider is the lesser of many evils. My practicing of Islam has waned over the months, though I still believe. I am never really approached religiously as I don't "look" like a muslim. Thanks for sharing. I rather enjoyed.

I too am from a Catholic Family. Almost 99% of my extended family and my x-wife's family are all catholic, with a few atheists. All my friends and coworkers are all Christian or agnostic or atheists.
I have one other Quranist Muslim friend who converted after meeting me. We are all we have and there is no mosques near us, not that we would ever go to one either.
I do thank God though that all my family and friends have been, for the most part, very supportive and accepting of what I believe. I really don't have anything to complain about regarding treatment and respect, for the most part, from friends and family.

Sound off if that is you! I am from an Irish Catholic American family and the only Muslim in it. This can make things a bit odd as I am sure you can imagine. There are also no Mosques in this area where I can go off to pray. Would love to hear the experience of some people in similar situations.

You do not have to go to Masques , or church or any religious related buildings to be with God, there is no place in this earth which is not manipulated with Satan, God is only teacher of of Hid words and He is the one explains His words 7516-19where I can go off to pray
God is everywhere, we can pray anywhere, anytime and any direction

I guess all the Prophets, Messengers and believers mentioned in the Quran who prayed to God, even with their prayers reiterated for us, were all wasting their time? God even says He answers the prayers but I guess that's not your Islam either.
Sometimes I wonder if you have ever even read the Quran.

But they didn't pray to anyone. And WOW lol, you read a translation from someone who has been affected by hadiths, from a corrupted Quran changed by the hadithists and it said Allah answered their prayers. I guess I was wrong and you enlightened me!

I grew up protestant, and am now the only muslim in my known extended family. My parents and extended family are all rabidly anti-islam, and all believe the jews belong in palestine and that literally anything done by them is justified. My parents do not know I'm muslim, but my wife knows and is just quietly tolerant, but hates it.
You mentioned there are no mosques in your area. I have a few here in the Austin, TX area, but frankly i'm afraid of them. Maybe it's because I was raised to be afraid of Muslims, but if they knew my beliefs, I don't know what would happen, so I steer clear. The free-minds forum is the only believing community I have, so God bless all of you with muslim spouses!

Maybe in the redneck Republican states people aren't very diverse but here in LA there's a bunch of mosques, bunch of different cultures (I can go to school and hear like 10 different languages spoken by different groups) and a large amount of Arabs/Persians and so a large amount of Muslims. I'm a convert from a Christian mom and a non-practicing Muslim father so my family is pretty open so I'm lucky.
Also the Muslims I've met at school have all been very open and welcoming.

Indiana. Closest masjid is 30 mins away. Beyond that, drive time is an hour. The closest masjid states on their website that they are a "traditional sunni" masjid. & If I'm going to drive that far, it better be at least a little progressive.

I don't have a Christian background, but I am from a family where most are convinced islam is just a religion of terrorism, violence, pedophilia, and women abusing. Unfortunately most of my friends think the same too, particularly my best friend and her parents. sigh Even after years I still haven't gotten the courage to tell them I'm a muslim. When religion comes up in a conversation I honestly just say I'm agnostic or spiritual.
