How accurate is Noah's Age?

It is up to science to find the truth, not for the truth to align itself with science.
Very wise bro.., that really made me crack.
This is similar to what you just said....
Jk rowling says harry potter is a wizard. Therefore I believe her. It is up to science to find that harry potter really is a wizard. Not for the truth (harry potter being a wizard in this case) to align with science.
You telling me to rely on conjecture? >D

Nope. Your keenness to antagonise severely hinders your ability to critically think to be honest.
Are you telling me that things like special and general relativity only became true when scientists discovered them?
Science is wrong all the time. That's how it works, by being proven wrong & refined. The truth never changes on the other hand. But you missed an obvious fact like that in your brainless haste.

Salaam all,
Now I'm a believer that the Holy Book is the true word of GOD. But I couldn't help wondering how scientifically accurate the below verse is
We sent Noah to his people, and he stayed with them one thousand years, less fifty.* Subsequently, they incurred the flood because of their transgressions.
Do you think that the messenger really lived for almost a millennium? I'm guessing it must be a problem with the calendar used those days. Maybe during the time of Noah its possible they had a calendar where each month was considered an year.
Or maybe "one thousand years less fifty' has some other inner meaning.... giveupPeace.
Could be..
1st century Jewish historian Flavius Josephus a.k.a Joseph ben Matityahu writes the following about this subject
"Now when Noah had lived three hundred and fifty years after the Flood, and that all that time happily, he died, having lived the number of nine hundred and fifty years. But let no one, upon comparing the lives of the ancients with our lives, and with the few years which we now live, think that what we have said of them is false; or make the shortness of our lives at present an argument, that neither did they attain to so long a duration of life, for those ancients were beloved of God, and made by God himself; and because their food was then fitter for the prolongation of life, might well live so great a number of years and besides, God afforded them a longer time of life on account of their virtue, and the good use they made of it in astronomical and geometrical discoveries, which would not have afforded the time of foretelling unless they had lived six hundred years; for the great year is completed in that interval."
"Now I have for witnesses to what I have said, all those that have written Antiquities, both among the Greeks and barbarians; for even Manetho, who wrote the Egyptian History, and Berosus, who collected the Chaldean Monuments, and Mochus, and Hestieus, and, besides these, Hieronymus the Egyptian, and those who composed the Phoenician History, agree to what I here say Hesiod also, and Hecatseus, Hellanicus, and Acusilaus; and, besides these, Ephorus and Nicolaus relate that the ancients lived a thousand years. But as to these matters, let every one look upon them as he thinks fit."
-- Antiquities of the Jews
Looks like it's a commonly believed by the people within 1st century that 'their ancestors' lived an extremely long age..
And if we take the story within the bible, there seems to be a gradual downward trend of homo sapiens longevity for generations after Noah. Shem died at 600 yo, Shelah 433 yo, Terah 205 yo, Abraham 175 yo, Moses 120 yo.. and now the avg life expectation is around 67 years. (meanings; on average people lived up to 67 years of age)
Perhaps there are changes in the environment which makes homo sapiens lived a shorter life as we know today.
The interesting question is whether this trend shall continue? And 3000 years from now, avg human only last up to 40-50 years of age.
PS My grandpa lived up to 103 years, while his sons on avg lived up to 82 yo..
Salam / Peace

How do you know because something is truth?
Someone told you it's truth and you should believe it blindly? Your parents? Free-minds?

Noah did indeed live for near a thousand years or more based on either the human body having a longer lifeline, or based on the technology and the medicine of that day being advanced enough to allow for slower aging (remeber, Noah was able to talk to his son while their were waves as big as mountains between them - not possible unless wireless devices were being used).
-
The Quran referring to "1,000 years except 50 years" could be an indicaction that a calendar is being used that counts the years faster than our normal 365 days year. This is further supported when we note that the 1,000 years are called "sana" while the 50 is called "aam" - and while both mean "year", they are used differently in the Quran.

1000 words vs 1000 Can of Sardine, to make Someone an Atheist. 1000 Can of Sardine chance of success multiple times more.

Very good points. Thanks for sharing.

Peace,
I understand your contentions. Truth comes from direct observation and critical analysis. However you know very well that whatever is true has been true since the dawn of the universe and will be true until its end. What we must do is uncover the fog and cut away the crap.
How do I know something is true? Well I know that I have five fingers on each hand. It is true forever on, that this guy has five fingers on each hand. Even if you destroyed the entire universe, it would STILL be true that a universe once existed where I had 5 fingers on each hand. That is how close and firmly graspable the truth is to us. As for the quran, it correlates heavily with personal experience, self-inquiry, every other religion and science. For me to dismiss it is unjust. Even the quran itself says it will turn away those who aren't fit to believe. So it's very perception/heart dependent.

So there is no way of entirely proving the quran's authenticity. It is just a matter of faith.
-
Well, I can only vouch for my own experience.
I held many illusions about the "outside world" which have since dissolved away. When I did I couldn't understand a lot of the verses I do now. And I still don't understand a lot of verses in the book.
A person who knows nothing about science can't comment on its intricacies. Not because they "have no right to" but because their illusions (assumptions, preconceptions, hasty judgements) veil the true facts from their sight.
Likewise, if one is reading their own book overlayed onto quran, it cannot possibly make sense. Al-quran needs the trust of its reader. But it doesn't say "you must believe in this book without knowledge". Rather it tells us, go out and see for yourself what the facts are. And then come back to the book and see who is truly in the wrong. If one knows the sure truth of reality and finds that reflected in al-quran then there is no need for "faith".
Of course we must always keep in mind that what we think is the sure truth is not always so. We must remember that we can be wrong. And that is the problem with religious faith, people grasp onto ideas that are clearly wrong for dear life. Al-quran never says "hold onto falsehood". And is it not true, that nobody is more unjust than the person who is in a prolonged opposition to the sure truth?
What one must understand is that al-quran does not favour people who call themselves believers. It favours genuine seekers and it challenges ALL humanity as to the veracity of their belief. Neither John "Atheist" Doe or Sheikh Omar "True Muslim" Al-Habib are an exception.
Peace

Judge the verses, just like Plato's and Aristotle's Philosophy.

Peace, and also 3 translate 1000 sunnah/way/path/multiple/time as 1000 years?
Dose it make sense translating 3362 as year (earth spin around the sun) The God?
2914 and surely We sent Noah with his people so he stayed with them thousand way/path/multiple/time (i.e. warned them 1000 time) only (for) fifty Aama/years
To live 1000 years gets old and tiring although some may desire to be granted 1000 lifetimes.
296 if is granted life thousand time/lifetimes
