    Shalom,

This post is regarding the FM translation of 355. I would like the inputs from the translators and their supporters regarding the ayaat.

    FM Translation
For God said "O Jesus, I will terminate your life, and raise you to Me, and cleanse you of those who have rejected, and make those who have followed you above those who have rejected until the Day of Resurrection. Then to Me is your return, all of you,so I will judge between you in what it was that you disputed."

    Sahih International
when Allah said, "O Jesus, indeed I will take you and raise you to Myself and purify you from those who disbelieve and make those who follow you superior to those who disbelieve until the Day of Resurrection. Then to Me is your return, and I will judge between you concerning that in which you used to differ.

    Muhsin Khan
And (remember) when Allah said "O 'Iesa (Jesus)! I will take you and raise you to Myself and clear you of those who disbelieve, and I will make those who follow you (Monotheists, who worship none but Allah) superior to those who disbelieve till the Day of Resurrection. Then you will return to Me and I will judge between you in the matters in which you used to dispute."

    Pickthall
(And remember) when Allah said O Jesus! Lo! I am gathering thee and causing thee to ascend unto Me, and am cleansing thee of those who disbelieve and am setting those who follow thee above those who disbelieve until the Day of Resurrection. Then unto Me ye will (all) return, and I shall judge between you as to that wherein ye used to differ.

    Yusuf Ali
Behold! Allah said "O Jesus! I will take thee and raise thee to Myself and clear thee (of the falsehoods) of those who blaspheme; I will make those who follow thee superior to those who reject faith, to the Day of Resurrection Then shall ye all return unto me, and I will judge between you of the matters wherein ye dispute.

    Shakir
And when Allah said O Isa, I am going to terminate the period of your stay (on earth) and cause you to ascend unto Me and purify you of those who disbelieve and make those who follow you above those who disbelieve to the day of resurrection; then to Me shall be your return, so l will decide between you concerning that in which you differed.

    Dr. Ghali
As Allah said, "O Isa, (Jesus) surely I am taking you up to Me, and I am raising you up to Me, and I am purifying you of the ones who have disbelieved. And I am making the ones who have closely followed you above the ones who have disbelieved until the Day of the Resurrection. Thereafter to Me will be your return; so I will judge between you as to whatever you used to differ in.

So, now I require the explanations for this difference. Anyone with sufficient knowledge on the subject, please feel free to join the discussion and enlighten me on the subject. May God kill you and rip your head open....just kidding May God guide you to His straight path and lead you to Paradise.

    PEACE

      Salaam.

      Muhammad Asad
Lo! God said "O Jesus! Verily, I shall cause thee to die, and shall exalt thee unto Me, and cleanse thee of those who are bent on denying the truth; and I shall place those who follow thee above those who are bent on denying the truth, unto the Day of Resurrection. In the end, unto Me you all must return, and I shall judge between you with regard to all on which you were wont to differ. (355)

I'm pretty sure you've read the Free-minds article on "Jesus Dead or Alive" and/or other articles that interpret the verse without outside sources (Ahadith). In the end it seems that the numerous ahadith which talk of Isa returning have influenced many Sunni scholars in their interpretation of the Quran which results in twisted translations...

        Greetings and Peace, all group

I like the FM translation of 355. It makes sense when the words are cross-referenced in AQ. One word has one meaning--it doesn't have one meaning in one place and a different meaning in another place.

355 For GOD said "O Jesus, I will terminate your life , and raise you to Me, and cleanse you of those who have rejected, and make those who have followed you above those who have rejected until the Day of Resurrection. Then to Me is your return, all of you,so I will judge between you in what it was that you disputed."

1670 And GOD has created you, then He will terminate your lives . And some of you will continue to old age so that he will not know anything more after his knowledge. GOD is Knowledgeable, Capable.

        Further reference http//corpus.quran.com/qurandictionary.jsp?q=wfy#(16704)

The other translations (of 355) allow too much latitude/mischief in interpretation. One explanation is that interpreters attempted to change the original meaning to fit their own agendas. What agenda other than following the System of ALLAH is acceptable? hmm

        ALLAH knows best!

        peace

          Shalom,

          Thanks for your inputs.

As for me, I am a bit unsure of the meaning. I need someone to explain it out as much as possible. For those who are good in arabic

Lets say I am the head of CIA, one of our agent is in an active mission. I want him to know that I am ending his mission there . Can I use "mutawaffika" to tell him that I will end his mission there? Would that makes any sense ? Can mutawaffika be used when I "cause to end" a thing ?

I hope the translators themselves explain why they chose "terminate your life".

          Peace
