    Peace All,

So, given that Salat is more than likely an assembley, how have people been establishing and practising salat on a regular basis? Myself and my husband perform a Salat when we have an issue we want to discuss.

What do others do? I feel a little lost without the bowing, kneeling and prostrating!

    Dawn.

        Peace,

After I found out about the assembly, I stopped doing the ritual salat. I was a bit confused as to how to perform the ritual salat without it being namaz from the Persians. It was a big mistake for me. I started to do the ritual one again and it helps a lot in having taqwa for Allah. Not saying that you can't still have taqwa but that having prescribed times in the day to remember Allah helps.

From what I gather from the Qur'an (and from what others here too also accept) it is 3 times a day. If you go to the free-minds homepage and click on the "What is Salat?" link would be a good start. I also incorporate the rukoo and follow similar pattern to the sunnis (because of the one shown on submission.org). I say a couple of ayat (such as ayat Al-kursi) from the Quran after Al-Fatiha, which is before the rukoo. I have keep each salat equivalent to two rakaats.

When not doing salat (rest of the day), I repeat "La ilaha illallah" to myself to try and keep taqwa and be thankful for the bounties that he has given us.

        Peace

          Hi Everyone,

I personally think Salat is a very important part of the day. Sure you can think of it as assembly but I use it as a time for meditation. Not simply thanking Allah or asking for guidance but a time to really connect with Allah. The Quran mentions that one should meditate on it. So I take an short Sura and meditate on it. Repeat it over and over and let my mind relax so Allah can allow me to find the meaning of the Sura for me for that day. I find that the meanings of some of the Suras change depending on the situation I am confronted with.

How many times a day? I think most agree 3 times.

Format? I think that so long as you are sincere you could vary the format.

How long? Keep the meditations rather short so that you are compelled to meditate on them during your free time during the day.

          Just my crazy thoughts

          peace Peace, Salam, Shalom peace

            Kaiokenred,

I am simply looking for the truth. i am reading the Koran and talking to other people who submit to God alone. I am searching. Until last year I prayed 5 times a day like the sunnis, yet called myself a submitter. I am not looking for an intellectual challenge or an intellectual spar, I am simply looking for civilized and peaceful discussion on the subject. I have to say I don't appreciate your tone and would rather not engage with you as I feel you are treating me with disdain - frankly, something I can do without.

            Dawn.

I've been doing the ritualistic salat. While I don't think this is right or wrong, there has been other ways of people doing it. Some people just do readings from the Qur'an while others do the sunni style prostrating five times a day salat, etc. I guess it really depends on what makes a person feel closer to Allah as I think the whole purpose of salat is to establish a connection with your creator.

Why would you need to connect with Allah who's closer than your jugular vein? confused

                        Have you ever meditated?

There are degrees of clarity to the mind. Even as God is closer than your own heart and veins, the atheist experiences total disconnection. The opposite is the experience of samadhi total absorption in the love for God.

And the difference between these two states is colossal. If you don't meditate, don't knock it. Without an understanding of what you are talking about, you can only babble. These are states of ecstatic bliss that are attainable by any who will to attain them. You see no benefit to being in a 24/7 state of serene bliss? That's the result of focused meditation and self-purification.

                        Or more in your face

Meditating isn't connecting to Allah imo. I think that by fasting in the Ramadhan and meditating ( just like Muhammad who did so ) you can enter your subconsciousness for a while and know the truth.

                            Peace JLM,

I think my point is that we either believe Salat is prayer or assembley. I believe it is assembley, but how on earth do we assemble three times a day everyday, and what do we talk about? It is at this point that I think, I do believe Salat is assembley, but it seems there is something missing from the equation. I will keep reading (the Koran) and pondering.

                            Peace.

Can you show me where you have made a valid contribution to this discussion. I think your current behaviour on these boards warrants a little peep in the Koran to get a bit of guidance on how to behave and conduct yourself. If you are willing to behave like a decent human being I will be willing to talk to you, but while you are behaving like the devil's messenger, then please decline from addressing me. I will now ignore anything you write unless of course you give me an indication that you are prepared to be reasonable.
