    Hi Everyone,

I personally think Salat is a very important part of the day. Sure you can think of it as assembly but I use it as a time for meditation. Not simply thanking Allah or asking for guidance but a time to really connect with Allah. The Quran mentions that one should meditate on it. So I take an short Sura and meditate on it. Repeat it over and over and let my mind relax so Allah can allow me to find the meaning of the Sura for me for that day. I find that the meanings of some of the Suras change depending on the situation I am confronted with.

How many times a day? I think most agree 3 times.

Format? I think that so long as you are sincere you could vary the format.

How long? Keep the meditations rather short so that you are compelled to meditate on them during your free time during the day.

    Just my crazy thoughts

    peace Peace, Salam, Shalom peace

I would think that salat would be the 3 daily Amidah (standing prayer)

    Places to start would be

I think Aidid Safar explained ablution. As for prayer times, it doesn't say do it in the morning and the night or things like that, but from the morning till the night. In Aidid Safar's translations this would be like " Be committed from morning to night "

Anyway, the fact stays that the Quran that is translated nowadays isn't the original one and there's many changes, so reason and common sense must be used.

It specifically says at dawn and at dusk.

11114 You shall hold the bond at the two ends of the day, that is, in the proximities of the night. The good deeds take away the bad. This is a reminder for those who remember.

1778 You shall hold the bond at the setting of the sun, until the darkness of the night; and the Quran at dawn, the Quran at dawn has been witnessed.

2458 O you who acknowledge, let those whom are under your contract and have not yet attained puberty request your permission regarding three times Before the dawn bond, and when you take off your attire from the heat of the noon, and after the dusk bond. These are three private times for you. Other than these times, it is not wrong for you or them to intermingle with one another. God thus clarifies the revelations for you. God is Knowledgeable, Wise.

4103 So when you are done with the bond, then remember God while standing, or sitting, or on your sides. When you are relieved, you shall hold the bond; the bond, for those who acknowledge, is a scheduled record/timely ordinance.

I am no longer a Sunna-rejecter. See 4:59-65, 62:2-4, 3:31, 4:156, 7:157 Messenger teaches and is to be followed and obeyed. Examples of revelation received which is not in the Qur'an: 3:123-126, 33:37, 2:187, 66:3, 62:9.

        Peace All,

I feel the Koran is telling us we can do 'Salat' anytime between Dawn and Nighttime. Whatever Salat is, it is a good thing and it really should be happening all day, which is what the time between Dawn and Nighttime is. If Salat means following the creed, ie, the rules God has given us, then this makes sense. We should establish the Salat, establish our righteous behaviours, as prescribed in the Koran. As a simple example, not back-biting anytime of the day.

        Dawn.

Wow. Alright then good luck with your philosophy of following "Aidid Safar's holy book alone" - I'll continue with Quran alone. It is quite ignorant to just base your understanding of islam/the quran on one or two translations.

I follow TRANSLATIONS of Badar Kanwar and sometimes Aidid Safar as long as it seems reasonable
What the hell do they translate? THE QURAN
I read many translations, and only accept one fully, that is Badar Kanwar's translation. That verse fully refers to people like me, as it's what I do. I happen to have something called reason, oh and it's not God but Allah, as Allah is not a god.

To each his own, but "only accepting translations by Aidid Safar and Badar Kanwar" is simply ignorant, regardless whether or not you use your reason. See 3918. I also don't agree with many translations but I dont fully ignore/reject them. You outright rejected the translations I posted solely on the basis that they were not from the "great" and "enlightened" translations of Aidid and Badawar. And chill out. If you are right as you yourself assume, why get so mad and angry?

God, Allah, the Most High - all the great names belong to Him. I can call him God if I want. Go read your Aidid. Come back when you can argue reasonably.

Dude, don't be so ignorant--hajj clearly means ankle, just ask our renowned scholar Aidid.

In all seriousness, I've seen worse translations than his, I, however would take what he says with a heavy pinch of salt . He makes up grammar rules out of thin air, for one, and has a very inconsistent, rather fantastical methodology.

You assume that God is a good name for Allah, but it is not. A god is an outside force that controls reality, a personification, that's the original meaning of god, even worse actually, as it has gender for example. How is that a great name for Allah, who is the single consciousness that manifests everything from the inside out?

I always argue reasonably, you're the one who doesn't.

Which translation do you believe in? Your comments are so ridiculous
It's like if you post a translation of the Quran from free minds for example and I tell you to go read your free minds, what proof would I have that it's a bad translations? My reason from yours for example is higher, but then again you can disagree with it since it's abstract.

I accept what seems reasonable, Badar Kanwar's translations are, thus I accept them. No other translation is, except Aidid Safar a little, that's why I only accept Aidid Safar sometimes and not fully, and other translations very little, just to give a shadow of the original meaning.

                            Peace,

After I found out about the assembly, I stopped doing the ritual salat. I was a bit confused as to how to perform the ritual salat without it being namaz from the Persians. It was a big mistake for me. I started to do the ritual one again and it helps a lot in having taqwa for Allah. Not saying that you can't still have taqwa but that having prescribed times in the day to remember Allah helps.

From what I gather from the Qur'an (and from what others here too also accept) it is 3 times a day. If you go to the free-minds homepage and click on the "What is Salat?" link would be a good start. I also incorporate the rukoo and follow similar pattern to the sunnis (because of the one shown on submission.org). I say a couple of ayat (such as ayat Al-kursi) from the Quran after Al-Fatiha, which is before the rukoo. I have keep each salat equivalent to two rakaats.

When not doing salat (rest of the day), I repeat "La ilaha illallah" to myself to try and keep taqwa and be thankful for the bounties that he has given us.

                            Peace

Very similar to mine. I also keep two rikat and two sujood. But i do it twice a day.

In the end salat is just a way to do zikr and dua. Having a routine helps to perform them. The Koran says we should do a lot a zikr. That is lots of praise, glorification and lots of dua. salat is a means to do all that daily. Thats what it is in the end. I don't know what the fuss about salat I see here is all about. I think it has to do with the Islamic background we come from.
