    Hey guys,

    Salam alaikom.

I am putting myself out there out of sheer frustration.

I am looking for sites to help teach me the Arabic language, especially since I want to study Qur'an more efficiently.

There are tons of sites. However I have a different issue. It really is embarrassing and a pain in the ...butt.

I have a phonological learning disability. It was not diagnosed until my senior year and confirmed in my first year of college. I took Latin from 7th grade to 12th, never able to learn it and passing because the teachers saw how hard I struggled. I just could not grasp the language or retain it. However, I was passing all my other classes and on the honor roll. With phonological disability it is extremely difficult to learn foreign language. I can learn, it's just I need to find a place that specializes in people with disabilities such as phonological. I never thought this issue would bother me, since I just assumed I would never have to learn another language, but here I am in a deen that is based on Arabic... lucky me.

I am on my second year, still trying to retain the alphabet. I know the letters when I see them, I just could not rattle off the alphabet for you.. So stupid and frustrating. brickwall

    Any help would be great.

      Greetings and Peace, all group

      @Indelwyn walaikum assalam sun

I dunno--maybe something like Rosetta Stone that puts pictures with the words? Rosetta Stone is somewhat expensive. Military and some companies will pay the cost if you are associated with them. If in college that offers a class in Arabic, such programs may be provided as an reasonable accomodation for a medically diagnosed disability. In the United States, the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) covers a multitude of confirmed disabilities. Other countries may have similar laws.

If it is worth stealing, it is worth buying; don't involve yourself in software piracy (not saying that you would, anyway).

Immersion also works. If one lives in a place where a language is is spoken, one is bound to pick up and retain the language more easily. This can be as simple as overseas volunteer work, a student exchange program, or any manner of ways. Maybe it is a good option to host a foreign exchange student that is fluent in Arabic and learn from them.

I imagine that it makes a difference if one wants to read Arabic or speak Arabic--and if the focus is conversational or reading AQ.

May ALLAH see fit to Guide all seekers.

      peace

Don't feel bad about it because Arabic is a very very difficult language. Everyone struggles with it, including people who have been raised with it. I was born and raised in Egypt and I am currently taking private lessons because my classical Arabic is so terrible.
I have a friend who has really good classical Arabic and she says that she often sees judges, who are supposed to have a perfect command of the language, make mistakes while giving interviews on TV. So I just want to say don't feel bad. You are dealing with a difficult language and if you have a learning disability then kudos to you for not giving up. Inshallah it will get easier.

I cannot offer any help unfortunately, but I just wanted to throw in a remark.

Regardless of the circumstances, the beautiful thing is that we can always ask our merciful creator for help. Just ask ask and ask and there will be some way opening up... and usually it is a way that we didn't know existed. I call it "the unknown solution", or "unseen solution" because I have seen in my own life that our creator always has a solution to a problem up the sleeve that I didn't think of... and that is so great... it is usually better that the options or solutions I could think of.

Second of all... if your heart is soft and pure... you will naturally be able follow the deen without even knwoing a word of arabic. If you have Allah, you don't need arabic. But as you desire to study the quran, that is of course great. Just sincerely ask Allah for help.

          Peace!
