      Salam,

      I agree with Abdul Hadi.
In Adams case "libasan" means a cover for their bad attributes. In Jannah people are "clean" their sins are covered and they live peacefully. Untill shaytan delude them and they start to get sinfull and see their own sins/ bad attributes.
For me they whole story of shaytan, adam and the tree is symbolic for everything happening even today on the earth. The symbol of the tree in the Quran is powerfull.

      719
Literal And you Adam, reside/inhabit you and your wife/spouse the Paradise, so you eat/consume from (it) where/when you willed/wanted, and do not approach/near this/that the tree, so you become/will be from the unjust/oppressive.

They are in a situation where they are allowed to eat/consume what they wish, but not this specific "tree". In my understanding the tree is a symbol for a bunch of attitudes/orientations/way of being that have consequences and which God is warning us of approaching. Approaching the tree is not only eating from a certain tree but it means even dare God and that is the problem. When they dare God they become sinful.

720 Literal So the devil talked to/gave evil suggestions and temptations to them to show to them what was hidden/concealed from them from their shameful genital private parts/deeds, and he said "Your Lord did not prevent you from that/this tree except that you become/be two angels or you become/be from the immortal/eternal .
      721Literal And he swore/made oath to them (B) "I am to you (B) from (E) the advisors/counselors.""

Here we can clearly see that sheytan didn't want adam and his spouse to remain submissive as shaytan promised to misguide us. he "whispers" to adam and his spouse, he lies to them and make them forget What God told them not to do (sounds familiar?). He seduces them with power like he is doing today. His aim was only to make them forget about God and they did, and sheytan succeeded.

722 Literal So he lured/attracted and lowered them , with deceit/temptation so when they tasted/experienced the tree, their shameful genital private parts/deeds appeared to them, and they started and continued (to) stick/tried hard to make do with what they do not have on them from the Paradise's leaves , and their Lord called them "Did I not forbid/prevent you from that the tree, and I said to you that the devil (is) for you an evident enemy?"

Shaytan attracted them by/with the help of "ghoroor" vanity. When they tasted/experienced the tree everything changed. They were not the same, they were not sinless anymore. That made them ashamed of what they became and wanted to cover their bad attributes. God reminds them of what He told them before and they beg for forgiveness. But even if God gave them the words they wouldn't stay in that place where they didint need to be afraid or sad. In my understanding, they needed the words to be able to deal with the new way of life, where they have to find they own food, shelter, safety and everything we need here on earth. The words I think is an indication of intelligence. Maybe this is the moment when Homo sapiens mutated and became homo sapiens sapiens which is us. But these are just may thoughts.

227 Literal You Adam's sons and daughters, We had descended on you a cover/dress (that) hides/conceals your shameful genital private parts/attributes, and feathers/riches/possessions, and the fear and obedience (of God's) cover/dress, that (is) better , and that (is) from God's signs/verses/evidences, maybe/perhaps they remember/glorify .

In my understanding God is telling us here after we descended to lower existence that garments could cover our bad sides/attributes. As we know humans judge by appearance until they get to know the real personality. In many situations even if people know the real personality they still get "covered" because they are wealthy and can manipulate people. But God even tells us that the "taqwa" righteousness is the best garment and there we have signs from God.

I know I have a lot of self interpretations But this is how I see the story of adam, his spouse and sheytan.

      Salam peace

Thank you both for your contribution.

I think taking the verses literally is more appropriate than taking them figuratively because you really have to go extreme end to make figurative interpretation. For ex, this verse is a give way that Adam and Eve exposed their genital parts (not deeds) and they had to use leaves (not symbolic act) to cover their shame.

Also see what Allah says to them. He does not say any figurative or abstract thing to them. He clearly says the tree, not some evil act.

There's the Adam evolution theory which says Adam wasn't really in paradise. He was a human on earth and he was put on an elevated garden(jannah). Eve was a humanoid. There's very convincing interpretation of the Adam related verses to explain how Adam was really the first genetically evolved human being.

          salam,
I think evolution makes sens and have good explanations.
I dont think saw?a as in "genital parts" mean really genital parts. The word saw?a is mentioned many times, and in all other places it means to treat badly, do evil to disgrace, be evil/wicked/vicious, ill, anything that makes a person sad and sorrowful, bad action, mischief and corruption, sin, evil doer, wretched or grievous, vex, annoy. Only in this verse it is translated as genital parts. I agree the context is determining maybe thats why the whole story is translated as it is now but most likely because people are so familiar with and influenced by the biblical version of this story. You call his spouse Eve, but we have no information about the spouses name in the Quran. Actually we can call her any name we like and Eve is the Biblical suggestion.
God is not telling us those stories to inform us about the facts around how He did, God is not sharing with us some diaries. I think it is more important to understand what is actually happening in the story, why is it told to us? What aya shall we see here?

          Salam.

Only in this verse it is translated as genital parts.

Genital parts is not mentioned in the Ayah. This is just inference drawn from what was hidden of their bodies from each other. In other places, Allah the Exalted has specifically mentioned the Genitals, both of man and woman.

The word means bodies, as is evident from this Ayah

This is about burial of dead body of his brother whom he killed.

Purposely, Shai'taan subtly relayed, for both of them, fascinating inspiration,
so that he may cause to become visible, for both of them, that of their bodies which was in hidden condition for each other,
he said, " The Sustainer Lord of both you has not forbidden you both from this female tree except for the reason that you both might not become governors/rulers/sovereigns, or that you two might become as immortals/people of permanence".

            "The most lethal weapon"

            Root

An exciting and fascinating story relayed as disclosure of hidden secret, coupled with emphatic oath that the disclosure is for sincerity with the listener, is an alluring deception.

              Greetings and Peace, all group

726 O Children of Adam, We have sent down for you garments to alleviate your bodies , and feathers ; and the garment of righteousness is the best. That is from the signs of GOD, perhaps they will remember.

531 So GOD sent forth a raven to scratch the land and show him how to deal with the body of his brother. He said "Woe to me! Am I not even able to be like this raven and deal with the body of my brother?" So he became of those who regretted.

It should be obvious that means cover/hide. Thus, as used in 726 is something that is able to cover/hide a physical body.

727 O Children of Adam, do not let the devil afflict you as he evicted your parents from the paradise; he removes from them their garments to show them their bodies . He and his tribe see you from where you do not see them. We have made the devils as allies for those who do not believe.

732 Say "Who has made unlawful the nice things that GOD has brought forth for His servants and the good provisions?" Say "They are meant for those who believe during this worldly life, and they will be exclusive for them on the Day of Resurrection." It is such that We explain the revelations for those who know.

20121 So they both ate from it, and their bodies became apparent to them, and they began to place leaves on themselves from the paradise. Adam had disobeyed his Lord, and had gone astray.

Could it be that is not literally "garment" but "covering" instead? If this is the case, in 727 is a deft metaphor for the covering of righteousness and is likewise a metaphor, perhaps for the nakedness of unrighteousness.

Read 20121 and then read 726; is one covering substituted for another in 20121?

2187 It has been made lawful for you during the night of fasting to approach your women sexually. They are a garment for you and you are a garment for them. GOD knows that you used to betray your souls so He has accepted your repentance, and forgiven you; now you may approach them and seek what GOD has written for you. And you may eat and drink until the white thread is distinct from the black thread of dawn; then you shall complete the fast until night; and do not approach them while you are devoted in the temples. These are the boundaries of GOD, so do not transgress them. It is thus that GOD clarifies His revelations to the people who they may be righteous.

Covering makes more sense in 2187 than literally garment/clothing!

In other words, to my understanding, it isn't always about clothing...it is about covering. In some places it is used metaphorically.

              ALLAH knows best.

                Salaam,

I understand that 3935 explains it well inshaAllah.

                3935
3935 So that Allah may remit from them the evil of what they did and give them the reward, according to the best of what they used to do.

The word is a derivative of the word in 531 and in 726 and in 720, 722, 727 and 20121.

This all means same. It means something evil, bad, etc. Similar instances can be seen below

                4110
4110 And whoever does any evil, or wrongs himself, then seeks the forgiveness of God; he will find God is Forgiver, Merciful.

                3010
3010 Then the end of those who did evil was evil, that is because they denied the signs of God, and they used to mock them.

And there are many more derivatives.

I am wondering how they translate it as dead body or genitals in some aayaats, I think they inspired from Biblical stories and translated the aayaats.

                    Greetings and Peace, all group

@Maha handshake An alternate definition of "anzaln" is "revealed"...in context "revealed to you."

                    In any case

478 Wherever you may be, death will find you, even if you are in fortified towers. If any good befalls them, they say "This is from GOD," and if any evil befalls them, they say "This is from you!" Say "All is from GOD;" what is wrong with these people, they barely understand any narrative!

Anything created, whether it existed, does exist, or will exist; the ultimate origin is ALLAH.

@mmkhan handshake I've seen interpretations that interpret "thiyaab"/"thiybakum" as "outer garments." "Talbasoonaha"/"talbasnah" does (to my understanding) mean " you wear"...obviously righteousness is only righteous if utilized! However, "libsan" is still used in 726--and it must have meaning.

Cross checking AQ for other usages of "libsan" turns up items of interest. The word appears to not be interpreted in the FM interpretation of 16112.

16112 And GOD puts forth the example of a town which was peaceful and content, its provisions were coming to it bountifully from all places, but then it rebelled against the blessings of GOD, and GOD made it taste hunger and fear for what they used to do.

When defined as "the covering of" or "the envelopment of", "libsa" makes sense! Because of this and other usages, I opine that "libsan" means coverings/envelopments.

                    ALLAH knows best.

                    peace

I agree with you 100% handshake

Libasa cannot mean taste as it already has a different word in Arabic zaaiqa. Taste is for few seconds or so, but covering/enveloping may stay longer. So in 16112 libasa cannot be translated as taste.

Both words are there in the Ayah. Severe, all pervasive economic recession, and collapse of law and order is depicted.

Thereat, it indifferently denied the blessing of Allah the Exalted, thereby Allah the Exalted caused them to sense/experience the garb/veil of of economic recession and law and order disturbance/feel of insecurity/fear.

If Adam?s spouse was really a spouse/wife, then there should be no problem taking clothes off from each other and seeing naked or having sexual intercourse. This verse implies there?s something seriously wrong with Adam AND and his mate taking their clothes off in front of each other and seeing private parts of each other.

What was wrong for shaitan to expose them to each other? If they are really spouse there should be no problem seeing each other naked.

Does this mean that Adam wasn't supposed to see his mate naked?
How can she be a mate then?

saitan in their mind ruined them, they became naked ,lost everything, they became as naked as the homeless or vagabonds you see in the streets. nothing to do with nude , but they became exposed in their life and not their colths
