Tonight, (April 19, Thursday, between 8-930 pm, EST time), I will be participating a live debate via SKYPE against a Christian scholar Tony Costa through a Christian Satellite channel, which is also podcast at http//www.abnsat.com/

The topic Is Quran God's Words?

ANOTHER debate has been also arranged between me and Sam Shamou, who appears to be fuming from his nose and very hostile to islam and muslims, on May 17, 8-930 pm. EST time). The topic was determined by them

    1. Was Muhammad an anti-Christ?
    2. Is Quran detailed.

    Peace,
    Edip

I read the transcripts of Dr. Pourhassan's debate with Shamoun. Sam made several logical errors, and Dr. Pourhassan did not jump on them at all. Pourhassan should have cleaned his clock. I imagine you will fare much better. A bit of advice on #1, though. Shamoun will bring up a few verses about the spirit of the antichrist from 1 John. You'll have to know something about the historical context of John's struggle against gnosticism and docetism, otherwise he will claim that the verses are universally applicable. He will also jump on the traditional interpretation of Jesus' crucifixion (which is docetic) and claim it to be an antichrist passage. Easily refutable with a little homework. Good luck!

        Maverick,
I appreciate your input... I have not watched any of Sam's debates nor I have read any of his articles.. If you have time, you may send me a summary (bullet points) of his major arguments...

        Peace;
        Edip

His arguments are all over the place and he has written extensively, as you can see here

          http//www.answering-islam.org/Shamoun/index.htm

But I'm going to wager that these verses are going to be key in his argument

1 John 318 Dear children, this is the last hour; and as you have heard that the antichrist is coming, even now many antichrists have come. This is how we know it is the last hour.

19 They went out from us, but they did not really belong to us. For if they had belonged to us, they would have remained with us; but their going showed that none of them belonged to us.

20 But you have an anointing from the Holy One, and all of you know the truth.

21 I do not write to you because you do not know the truth, but because you do know it and because no lie comes from the truth.

22 Who is the liar? It is whoever denies that Jesus is the Christ. Such a person is the antichrist?denying the Father and the Son.

23 No one who denies the Son has the Father; whoever acknowledges the Son has the Father also.

He is going to hop on the verses from the Qur'an that deny that God has begotten any son, and so call the prophet antichrist. But this gets verse 22 backwards. It isn't denying sonship that makes someone antichrist, it is denying the title of Messiah from Jesus that makes someone antichrist. Since the Qur'an affirms Jesus as "Al Masih", the prophet clearly cannot be antichrist, and the verses stating that God neither begets nor is he begotten are there to correct any error making Jesus a literal son of God. There are lots of places in Christian scripture and Jewish deuterocanonical texts that affirm this. Hope this helps, and as I have time, I'll see what else I can find for you.

          Peace,
          Joel

I appreciate the info brother Maveric...

Yesterday, I had 90 minute SKYPE debate with Tony Costa at ABN satellite channel, which also broadcasts on its website, www.abnsat.com. They are very active in promoting Christianity among Muslim, more accurately, Sunni and Shiite populations.

The podcasting and broadcasting of the show was somehow very delayed; about 5-10 minute... I think they were doing that for damage control.. Tony was a well-informed and kind Christian apologetic, yet his arguments against the Quran was irrelevant and begged the question...

He quoted some verses of the Quran, and claimed that they were taken from this or that Rabbanic teaching, from Zoroastrianism, or from the Bible etc. He, thus, declared the "sources" of the Quran not to be devine. They were "the mythologies of the past" as was claimed by Meccan polytheists. His argument had two prongs

            1. Its stories could be found in some old apocryphal books or rabbinic oral traditions.
            2. The stories that common with the Bible are not accurate since they contradict the Bible.. For instance, the story of crucifixion, resurrection and deity of Jesus are not mentioned accurately or ignored totally.

I was surprised to hear such a filimsy argument from someone who is praised as a great young scholar (http//www.freewebs.com/tonycosta/tonysbioandcontact.htm ). I reminded him that the stories of the past told in the Quran is to provide us with real life examples to educate us about the problem with arrogance, ignorance, following the crowd blindly, etc. If we did not find any other written or oral sources before the Quran, then perhaps we would be justified to be suspicious of the story (such as in Mormon?s Book).

But he continued elaborating on the same irrelevant argument? Upon his reference to the deity of Jesus I refuted the idea of Trinity, based on history, the scripture and logic. Though he was the first one who referred to it and criticised the Quran for not accurately depicting Jesus, he accused me of distracting the debate with irrelevant issues )...

I do not have time now to summarize the entire debate, which lasted 90 minutes?

The moderator was very kind, yet I was disconnected several times. I noticed that the podcast on the internet site was very delayed? I am not sure whether they broadcasted it via satellite. A moment ago, I looked at their website and I could not find the trace of the debate, which they keep the video recording at their website?

I searched their site via google

            "edip yuksel" siteabnsat.com

Which returned the ?ghost? the announcement, which happens to be erased.

            1. Assyrian Cast Webcast Article
              abnsat.com/index.php/en/webcasts/assyrian-cast
              Schedule. 800pm - English Debate /Tony Costa Vs Edip yuksel. 1030pm - Ask & The Bible Answers. 100pm - Repeat Live Talk Show. 300pm - P & W. 330pm ...

I am not sure whether they will later upload to the website or not, but I wonder whether they just tested me and when they figured out that I am not like their usual Sunni or Shiite straw-men, and they decided just to ignore the entire debate?

              Peace Edip,

Sounds like things went very well. Congrats! )

I have a strong dislike of people who apply one standard to someone else's beliefs that they are unwilling to apply to their own. If this gentleman is truly a scholar, then surely he knows that Paul quoted two pagan poets, one of which was Anaximander, in his sermon on the areopagus - and that the Psalms have quotes from Ugartic hymns.

But again, sounds like you surprised and embarrassed them. Hopefully God will guide them.

              Peace,
              Joel

This is how you can recognize the Spirit of God Every spirit that acknowledges that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is from God, 1 John 42
Muhammed would be commanded to believe in Jesus as the Christ, the Quran names Jesus as such

And, please research for the Comforter/paraclete/helper. John 1416, 1426, 168
***This comforter would explain ALL THINGS,
The Quran is FULLY DETAILED 6114
The Quran is not missing anything 638
                The Quran explains EVERYTHING 12111

***has any other comforter come yet?

and also look into the The Parable of the vine dressers, about the kingdom being given to others

                • also Jehovah's witness's rejection of trinity and worshiping marry, as the bible does not teach so.
