    Hello Farouk,

I think to derive scientific "facts" from Koran or any other religious text is misleading because Koran is not a scientific book (or any other scripture for that matter). Koran is a great spiritual work. To view it any other way is to limit its immense spiritual value to humanity.

Perhaps you should try to look at the scripture as a dialogue between the human soul and the Divine?

    Regards,

Khi- Salam. Although the Quran is not a science textbooks it CLEARLY DOES STATE INDISPUTABLE SCIENTIFIC FACTS PROVED THROUGH THOROUGH OBSERVATION. If the Quran was only spiritual y does GOD tell us abt the clouds the embryonic stages, tht heavens n earth were one piece n then cleft assunder, abt honey n the bees? All these things r paret of our natural world which GOD created n He informs us of them n thjeir function in the QUran. So the Quran is not a book of science but a book of SIGNS n many of them do refer 2 established scientific facts. GOD Bless!

Language of the Quran is very specific. It is the language of Poetry. Poetry derives it's power from similies, metaphors, signs and symbols. It is these things that allows human beings to describe in words the intangible realm of the spirit and its relation between the soul and God.

The use of embryonic stages is a metaphor to describe the insignificance of human beings in relation to God, and also describes how this insignificant being can establish a relation with God...

          Salaam,

I would like to open a debate about the speed of light in the Qu'ran.
In some muslem website, you can see those two verses used to calculate the speed of light

(Allah) Rules the cosmic affair from the heavens to the Earth. Then this affair travels to Him a distance in one day, at a measure of one thousand years of what you count.

The angels and the Spirit ascend to Him in a day, the measure of which is fifty thousand years

70.4 is used this way speed = (speed of the fastest transportation on earth in year 600 or so) * 1000 years / 1 day

They use 60 km/h as the fastest speed being the speed of a horse.... and they find a speed for light of 300000km/s.

My atheists friends find a flaw in it, and I share their opinion the arbitrary choice of 60 km/h.... I agree with them on this, it is like choosing the hypothesis that best fits your purpose.
To me 70.4 is more related to the relativity of time. but lets go back to the speed of light

Using 32.5, and a LUNAR calendar, i first found a speed of 330000km/s .... which is a pretty good approximation (10% error).
Then, (and that is where I need an opposed opinion), when I negate the influence of the sun (because light speed is the same whether it is on a gravitational field or not) from the earth-moon system, i find the speed of 299792.5km/s which is a very good approximation (true until the .5).

Now, i need someone to contradict me and start a constructive discussion. Why? Because the "I negate the influence of the sun gravitational field" thing can be seen as a flaw in the calculation, or not dependingon the point of view..... And I really want to settle this.

Anyone having an opinion about it, please tell. I would more than welcome any opposed view, and constructive talk.

          Peace Farouk,

There are also assumptions you haven't stated

32.5--that God used something that moved with the speed of light to direct affairs on earth. This implies

          1. God is at some distance from the Earth, which contradicts the verse that said God is closer than our jugular vein,
          2. God needs time to receive information from Earth, which is quite problematic considering God is outside the scope of time (I believe this is Khizar's opinion... I think he know which verses support this assertion)
          3. God is limited by the speed of light. The problem with this is obvious enough God does not need to be constrained by natural laws.

And yes, your 60km/h assumption is arbitrary.

70.4--Again assuming that angels travel at the speed of light, and God has some certain spatial position out there in space.

But I don't think pursuing these matters is productive.

What do you mean contradict you?. Those two verses contradict each other.

One says one thousand years and the other says 50 thousand years.

Khi- The verses clearly talk abt two different periods of time(yaum). The latter with 50000 yrs is the period which is req 4 the angels 2 reach GOD while the other is a day with GOD compared 2 our time. GOD Bless!

They are both Gods time compared to our time, Gods one day is equal to

1000 yrs (our time) for information to reach God (i.e this affair travels to Him )
                AND
50,000 yrs (our time) from an Angle to reach God

So when God dicided to send Angel Gabriel to earth to reveal the message to muhammd it took Gabriel 50,000 yrs to get here and another 50,000 years to get but to God. But the quran contains in it information about Jesus who came 600yrs earlier (our time). Sorry at doesn't compute

How can the quran contain information from 600yrs earlier when it takes the angels 50,000 yrs to get here and it take 1000 yrs for information (i.e affair travels to Him) to come and go between earth and God.

And when God receieves information freom earth according to the first verse, this information is 1000 yrs (our time) out of date.

Either way you look at it, there is a problem. Because Angels and Spirits are light so traveling at the speed of light this would mean that God is a long way away which also contradicts principle that God is Ever where and not in one place.

                  Peace albion,

Khi- Again ur confusing the matter. They r NOT both referring 2 GOD's time as compared 2 us. The 1000 yrs one verse yes tht is GOD's day as compared 2 ours but tht the angels having 2 take 50000 yrs 2 reach GOD is not a comaprison drawn btw GOD's day n ours, infact it's not even a comparison with GOD's day n the angels' but it describes a PERIOD/EPOCH(yaum) which it takes the angels 2 reach GOD. Therefore theres no contra whtsoever. GOD Bless!

                    Peace Andya,

Some of the contradictions you mentioned might not really be contradictions because quantum physics tells us that light photons can be instantaneous and therefore be anywhere in the universes and time is irrelevant, this is kind of silly too because we have a finite speed for light, but thats physics for you! I just remebered this from one of my physics lessons, I'll look further into it when I have time. When I was told this I didn't understand or agree because it contradicts other things in physics and I wasn't given an explanation that satisfied my mind.
