What is the pre requisite? Being a good human or monotheism

I stumbled on this site few days ago & was quite relieved to find some refreshing & unorthodox views on Islam.
I always beleived God/Allah was All loving/most merciful rather than the stringent God portrayed by orthodox muslims who would not accept your dua if he wasnt glorified or durood wasnt recited first. yeah
I had quite a few problems in accepting Islam at face value initially...you see things like polygamy, inferior status of the women, sex slavery, no of prophet's wives etc etc..(u know where Iam going) would bother me...for me a Creator who has created everything in this entire universe would not be biased towards 1 gender or certain tribe... > For this reason i could not connect to Allah as others in my family would or give the same reverence to the Prophet (s). I got more instrested in spirituality but felt deep down inside my heart that i was not a good muslim..u know that guilt...later i decided to actually explore Islam thoroughly but the amount of hadeeth i read only increased my dissatisfaction. Finally i decided to read the Quran Translation (yes, this was the last step, whereas it should have been the first.. ???, lol but thats the case with most of the muslims i know, they know more hadeeth than what quran actually says ) so while reading the quran things became quite clear...it actually seemed easy to follow Islam... yes but i came across few brickwalls as well...u know "what the right hand possesses", "beat the wife" etc...it was then that this site proved so life saving where i got to know there could be biased translations as well...so i can tell that i feel as if my faith in the All Loving Allah has increased in leaps & bounds! yay So GREAT WORK Guys! group
Anyways, now coming to the main topic (lol, sorry for the entire 'ram kahani' ) my question, is it more important to be a great/good human being or to believe in Allah alone? i mean there so many good non muslims who are exceptional humam beings like mother theresa etc who have contributed so much to the society..would they go to 'hell' because they dont believe in the shahada?
I know you must be thinking why on earth would i be intrested etc...but i would like to hear your views on this?

Mother Theresa is a non muslim because she don't believe in Sunni's Shahada???
Heck... even Muhammad doesn't believe in Sunni's Shahada...Thus the answer is no They will not go to hell because they don't believe in Shahada..

Eh, it depends on your definition of good. If only moslims can be "good" then no, it does not matter how much some old wrinkled bag of catholic flesh "comforted" sick starving and dying Indian peasants.

Remember GOD knows who is good, not us.
653 GOD thus tests the people by each other, Some say ( mockingly!) ? Are these the people among us that are blessed by GOD?? Is GOD not aware of the appreciative ones?? ( Can you fool GOD?)

You see, belief doesn't matter if you're a good person. But with all the delusion today, you must believe in the truth in order to know how to be good. Belief in the truth ( which is what the believers mentioned in the Quran believe in, the truth doesn't matter which just accepting whatever truth you know ) is not a necessity, but it helps greatly and nowadays almost always to someone who is much more good than wrong

Thus why bother??so basically it does nt matter if you believe Jesus (a human) as 'The God' or you believe in worshipping idols or if you are an atheist as long as are a 'good person'? (this good encompasses everything good/moral)
To be truly honest and frank.. Everyone is worshiping their own idols..
Personally I prefer to have the good atheists as neighbor compared to the 'good and actively preaching' xtians, sunnis, and shiites.. Imagine having them showing up at your door every day trying to persuade you to join their cult.. And if you don't subscribe to their POV , they started calling you names (such as Satan), cursing you and threatened you on bad things.. (unless you joined their cult)

Appreciate sharing your view.....you see when you are raised in an environment where you are told "whats the use of being such a good person when she/he doesnt beleive in Allah & his messenger(s), it does play in your mind.
This is the first forum i have ever posted on..good to have such a conversation.
Also can 'Student of Allah' please comment, i love reading your views! ;D

Believing Jesus is a God is wrong and will lead you to be a bad person. Christianity is a death cult and brings only bad things. Jesus is also a lie, he never existed. If you believe in Jesus you have to do everything ordered in Christianity (like executing people) and that is being a bad person. There are peaceful christians? Well they don't fully believe in Jesus then.
And Islam is not a religion or some sort of thing, it's a deen, so you can be a muslim without even knowing you are, since the message of Islam is lost to the vast majority of people anyway. It's not about being a mindless follower of some cult.

well, here is the thing, God guides those who are nice/benevolent (684, 37121)
so yes, being nice/benevolent might be a pre-requisite.Heaven is not monopolized by any religion.

I am fascinated to hear the opinions here and very relieved that there is no dogmatic adherence to any brutal and aggressive interpretations I find elsewhere.
"as long as are a 'good person'?" seems to be the message. So what is the distinguishing factor for believers who are good people and atheists who are good people in the afterlife?
