I am sorry, I am not a muslim -- just browsing islam D

I read several posts and you all say Peace , what's up with that?

I think it should be a little more like peace be upon you - you know gramatically because peace at first to me seemed like a code work you guys were using to discuss a particular topic or something D D D

    just wondering as always

    take it easy

      Peace Jaguar )

You're correct. Grammatically, it is not perfect to greet with "peace". But the semantics of the language have allowed for it. Here on the East Coast of the USA, it is quite common to hear non-Muslims greet each other with "peace". Plus, it's a bit shorter and easier than saying "peace be upon you", though some still choose to use that greeting as well. If you think about many English greetings or introductions, they don't make much sense grammatically, or even definitively, for instance

      What's up?
      Hey
      Yo
      Dear _______
Good Day, Good Morning, Good Afternoon, Good Night

Overall, I feel greeting with "peace" keeps a line of respect and honor drawn in the dialogue. It reminds one that we should remain respectful and peaceful in our conversations, as opposed to plenty of forums I've visited where folks just post paragraphs with no "hello" or "goodbye".

      Peace,
      Tay

that's a very beautiful aspect of Islam -- following peace. Its sad to see a faith that focuses so much of peace and friendship be leveled down so much that those with no knowledge of Quran think of Islam as a violent religon.

hopefully your message will pass around to all. I came to this site via a chat conversation and I think it is wonderful.

        take care

            Peace be upon you Jaguar,

I am glad you brought this up. It is a simple matter of following the messenger. We are instructed to greet those who have faith inthis message of the God by saying"Peace be upon you". If you notice, I start all of my posts with thie greeting. From the responses that I have seen given to your question, I think we need to dig a little deeper.

(58 Do you not see to those who were restricted from the confidential talk/secret conversation? Then they return to what they were restricted from it, and they interchange pleasurable conversation with the sin/crime, and the transgression/aggression , and disobedience (to) the messenger, and if they came to you, they greeted you with what God does not greet you with it, and they say in their minds "If only The God tortures us because (of) what we say." Enough for them Hell they roast/suffer (from) it , so how bad (is) the end/destination?

Some say in thier minds that the God will not punish them for what they say out thier mouths, but indeed the WORD is the most powerful weapon, and when one realizes the PARADISE of the state of PEACE, they will TRULY wish for "PEace to be upon mankind".

            (654) And if those who have faith came to you with Our signs, so say "peace on you, your Lord decreed on Himself the mercy, truly who from you made/did bad/evil/harm with ignorance/foolishness, then he repented from after it, and corrected/repaired, so that He truly is a forgiver, merciful."
