    Salam guys

I am sure this question has been asked several times, however can't find this type of question in any of the previous topics. I have been committing some similar-kind of sins repeatedly despite having made promises with Allah that I will not commit them again. I even promised to be ?10 every time I commit the sin and the amount has amounted to about ?550 now. I really don't know how to stop, what shall I do? Everytime I commit the sin I feel extremely bad about doing it and vow to never done it again. Things then change the next day.

Hope one of you can help.

P.S. It'd be good to get a london group going on.

      Salaam cyrus,

May TheCreator protect you and all of us from such things. I suggest you to try to get closer and closer to Allah, as much as you are close to Him, inshaAllah you will get away from sins. And everytime you feel to go a sin, try to change your mind and try to go outside, shopping malls, walk on street, try noticing aayaats of Allah, like sky standing without support, air you can only feel but can't see, sun how it has been designed and given power, tree how unique they are, they can grow upwards but cannot walk or move from its place, etc, etc... inshaAllah, as much as you force yourself to divert your mind, it will finally help you quit those things.

      Please check the following

      417
417 The repentance accepted by Allah is only for those who do wrong in JAHAALAT and then repent soon after. It is those to whom Allah will turn in forgiveness, and Allah is ever Knowing and Wise.

      418
418 But repentance is not of those who do evil deeds up until, when death comes to one of them, he says, "Indeed, I have repented now," or of those who die while they are disbelievers. For them We have prepared a painful punishment.

Based on the aayaats above you have to try stopping it somehow. And still when you have done anything wrong in JAHAALAT , if you repent SOON Allah is forgiving inshaAllah.

Brother till now you are safe because you feel extremely bad when you do it, once you stop feeling bad means you got away from the path of Allah. Ask Allah for His help, ask Him to protect you, strive hard to get away from it and follow these aayaats.

      2397
2397 And say, "My Lord, I seek refuge in You from the incitements of the devils,

      2398
2398 And I seek refuge in You, my Lord , lest they be present with me."

      And also

      23118
23118 And say, "My Lord, forgive and have mercy, and You are the best of the merciful."

Did you notice that these three aayaats are from which sura?

Don't loose your hopes with Allah brother, my Lord will surely forgive you, inshaAllah.

May my TheCreator TheMaker TheDesigner protect you and all of us and guide to His true path pr
      mmKhan

Edit And pay what you already promised to Allah and try not to make any promises to Him further.

i remember a thread like this. so negative or positive reinforcement of your behavior aren't working. instead, i would gain some insight into why you keep committing this sin repeatedly? have you thought about seeing a psychologist who might help? knowledge is empowering. if psychologist isn't an option, try google searching 'why do people....' or joining an on-line support group as i am sure you are not the only one.

i really think if you understand your behavior and why you are doing it, this will help you the most. if you know the underlying cause/problem getting to the root cause then you can modify your behavior.

well really, god forgives whomever he wills. everyone's situation is different, their mindset, environment, how they grew up, their influences which would make someone more susceptible to certain types of sins.

god is the greatest judge and all knowing. no one on earth can tell you for certain if you will or will not be forgiven for repetitive sins. that is a judgement only the all mighty and all knowing can make. but as indicated in the quran, you are most definitely not doing your self any good and are playing a dangerous game with repetitive sins (depending on what they are of course as well also)

may allah forgive me and you for any repetitive sins that we are or arent aware of.

not exactly correct though. God does make it clear who the inmates of hell and residents are going to be. we can see with some certainty that according to the koran, abu lahab is going to hell. and with some certainty we can say that prophet muhammad is going to heaven. i have a fairly good idea where i would end up if i commit certain acts. i can have all the excuses in the world - blame it on satan, blame it on my friends, family, environment, situation, etc, etc but at the end i have to stand account to how i have lived my life. God has pretty much made it clear what the transgressions are.

when it comes to transgression, we need to look at what God says. not what people say as according to hadith followers even listening to music would be considered a sin.

i agree some are mentioned by name but generally speaking we dont know who is going to hell. even if the person is immoral for eg what if the person has some as yet to be discovered brain condition or a mental condition not yet defined that causes narcissist behavior. my point is only Allah all knowing and most merciful can make the judgement of hellfire or paradise and he may forgive someone a human judge might not for a human is not all knowing and Allah is. he is infinitely more qualified as a judge than us.

narcissism is personality trait/characteristic not a mental illness. you can treat schizophrenia, bipolar and other mental disorders but not a persons character or nature. borderline, antisocial, narcissisism are disorders of personality. psychologist describe human behavior trying to provide explanations but God certainly doesn't condone or excuse behaviors. sure scientists can discover the brains of sociopaths and narcissists are different than the brains of those with sublime attitude having integrity and living an honorable life. God is crystal clear on what he thinks of those who are arrogant, egotistical, boastful, selfish, those who brag, deceive, lie,cheat..... causing pain to others.

it took me four years to figure out that i was married to a narcissist and how he was damaged by his mother by parentification. this is where a mother expects and turns to her son to meet her unmet emotional needs. my ex would go through ego dystonia phases feeling really bad about himself and would at times tell me how he is evil. he knew what he was doing and that he had a problem. he knew right from wrong. sociopaths do also. they don't change not because they don't have the ability to or the intellect or are not capable of change due to some chemical or neuronal problem. they choose not to change. And God does make it clear in the Quran about these types of people who even if they were to see hellfire with eye of certainty, still they will never change their ways.

now, can i say that my ex will go to hell for what he did to me and others. no but i do know that there are consequences to our actions and no one gets away. the good that we do will be rewarded and the bad that we do will be punished. at the end, justice will be rendered. And God is forgiving when we seek forgiveness and redemption making right of our wrongs. this is made clear by God. so there is not this big secrecy of who the inmates of hell and residence of heaven are going to be. having said that, do i know where i will end up? no, but i do know that if i do certain things where i will likely end up unless i cease, seek forgiveness and redemption.

The fact that you feel very remorseful about it is a good thing. That fact that you are in anguish about doing it over and over again even though you say sorry is a good thing too. (The anguish, not doing it over and over again)

Allah will judge everyone according to their circumstances.

Your anguish clearly means you are fighting a war that you have not yet won, and I hope that you win this war, and if not, I hope that you consistently seek Allah's forgiveness everytime you lose a battle in this war.

Also, like I said, Allah will judge everyone according to their circumstances.

Someone who was born dirt poor and who stole to feed themselves or their family, versus someone who was the pampered child of billionaires who stole simply for the thrill will not both be judged the same by Allah.
