So from what I have gathered from research, it seems that reciting Al-Fatihah, "Subanna Rabbal Azeen, Subanna Rabbal Allah" and scriptures from the Qu'ran are mandatory during prayer. Also, prayer is 5 times a day.

What about Salaat Ul Ibrahim and Tahajjud? I was visiting another site, and their view point is that since the method for prayer is pretty vague in the Qu'ran, then the way the Prophet Muhammed (saws) performed the prayer is the correct one and the one we should follow. As far as I know, that is located in hadith.

I'm a little confused on this one. Why say that the Qu'ran is complete, yet go to an outside source for the prayer?

    With Peace,

    Amina

I only have my opinion from what I have studied. I saw the "method for prayer is pretty vague" as being a blessing from Allah. Are we meant to be robots? We know what we should say and what we should NOT say. The rest is up to us.

The purpose of prayer is to remember Allah and a benefit for us.

      2014
2014 Surely I am Allah, there is no god but I, therefore serve Me and keep up Salaat for My remembrance

      6162
6162 Say My contact prayer, and my rites, and my life, and my death, are all to Allah, Lord of the worlds.,

      3911
      3911 "Say, Verily, I am commanded to worship Allah (Alone) by obeying Him and doing religious deeds sincerely for Allah's sake only and not to show off, and not to set up rivals with Him in worship;

      7218
7218 And the places of worship are for Allah (ALONE) so invoke not anyone along with Allah

So praise your Lord, and use it as a time to build your personal relationship with him. How do you thinkAbraham prayed? Do you think he knew the Tashoud and gave blessings to himself? Even Muhammad, do you think he spoke in the third person when he prayed?

I believe some things like prayer are vague, as to not make it a burden and allow for spiritual growth. Now that I do not pray like a robot, I want to pray. I find myself enjoying it and not just being on auto pilot.

I hope this helps and leads you to more studies.

Peace to you as well )

          salaam amina,

Why say that the Qu'ran is complete, yet go to an outside source for the prayer?

On the one hand, Quran says it is clear, detailed, every example etc...... see HERE........ yet on the other hand, some people say it is vague about salat.

The only way to reconcile the above is to say it is "vague" for a reason, e.g. IF one believes salat=prayer, then there is very little info about this, thus its author does not intend for there only to be one acceptable format for prayer. This makes some sense.
Some are a little hesitant to go down that road, so will utilise sunna/precedent, i.e. the format that has allegedly been passed down the generations onto us. Or at least, use this as the basic outline.

Personally, I try to take Quran at it's word, i.e. if it says it is clear, detailed, every example etc then it is. Thus, what salat is and how to undertake it is contained within its pages. For a brief, see HERE.

All information is correct to the best of my knowledge only and thus should not be taken as a fact. One should always seek knowledge and verify for themselves when possible: 17:36, 20:114, 35:28, 49:6, 58:11.

            Wakas,

Excellent explanation. Just this morning I was thinking about how the immediate argument for salaat in the Qu'ran is "How does one know many rakas to make? The Qu'ran doesn't say that." My reply to that now is "Is it possible that the reason the Qu'ran doesn't say that is because there are NO rakas?"

You are very right...many Muslims have never actually studied the Qu'ran ( I say studied versus read, because studying produces different results). Insha'Allah, I will be able to say that I am no longer part of that group in the near future.

            Thank you for the links!

            With Peace,

            Amina

              Peace, an absolutely great question

I wondered about those type of questions for many years until I understood
Allah reveals what needs to be revealed, for instance, the correct way of making wudu
was revealed because the correct way of making it was lost
O you who believe, do not observe the Contact Prayers (Salat) while intoxicated, so that you know what you are saying. Nor after sexual orgasm without bathing, unless you are on the road, traveling; if you are ill or traveling, or you had urinary or fecal-related excretion (such as gas), or contacted the women (sexually), and you cannot find water, you shall observe Tayammum (dry ablution) by touching clean dry soil, then wiping your faces and hands therewith. GOD is Pardoner, Forgiver.

When I was sunni, I was taught to wipe behind the ears, blow out my nose, wash three times
              and wipe behind my neck.

Then I reflected "that must really have been hard on people living in the desert were water
              was a premium.

Why would Allah make life so difficult? then I read

O you who believe, when you observe the Contact Prayers (Salat), you shall (1) wash your faces, (2) wash your arms to the elbows, (3) wipe your heads, and (4) wash your feet to the ankles. If you were unclean due to sexual orgasm, you shall bathe. If you are ill, or traveling, or had any digestive excretion (urinary, fecal, or gas), or had (sexual) contact with the women, and you cannot find water, you shall observe the dry ablution (Tayammum) by touching clean dry soil, then rubbing your faces and hands. GOD does not wish to make the religion difficult for you; He wishes to cleanse you and to perfect His blessing upon you, that you may be appreciative.

              hmmmm So what about salat?
Why is it not in the Quran?
Answer, It does not need to be.
Imagine line dancing, do you need a book to learn how to line dance?
No! because line dancing is everywhere just go to a club a watch! get on the dance floor
and in no time you"ll be in the groove with everybody else.

The five positions of salat are universal among all muslims.
All sects rather you be sunni, shia, Hanafiyah,Kamiliyah etc.,
              perform the five positions
therefore there was no need for the positions to be revealed.
You can go to any mosque and see the Standing, Bowing, Prostration, sitting, and salaaming done.
those positions must have remained intack to this day.
              therefore no need of revelation

              Peace

So, before Muhammad came to the scene, no-one in the world knew how to pray? Are you saying that? That Jews, who received Torah directly from God, were left without instruction of how to put their asses in the air?
And then, how comes that even after Muhammad "corrected" (invented) this new "religion", people of the previous Scriptures did not accept it? ha?

7200 If a suggestion from Satan assail thy (mind), seek refuge with Allah. for He heareth and knoweth (all things).

Even the Christain seek refuge with God with prayers and fasting

When prayer and trust does not seem to be getting the job done ... consider including the weapon of fasting."
Outside of obedience to God's Word, fasting is the greatest spiritual discipline (weapon) for seeking God's intervention. Combined with prayer they together make up the most critical weapons of spiritual warfare and deliverance in our lives. While we cannot manipulate God to fulfill our desires exactly as laid out to Him, fasting moves God to fulfill His intended will over the matters in our lives.
The devil does not want you or I fasting unto God - period - ever! Anyone thinking about fasting unto God is a serious potential threat to Satan?s dominion on this planet
