    Peace,
All the sikhs I know of are vegetarians, veganism, hmmm, yes they sometimes do treat dairy cows very unfairly and I would agree to be a vegan because of that , but, I wouldn't consider products from animals as unlawful unless the animals have been treated badly. Anyway, I am at a really confused point and I am actively looking for an answer, it's just so difficult to find.

          Greetings and Peace, all group

@MSW As these are your first posts welcome

If you don't want to eat meat, don't eat meat. That is a personal choice.

However, be aware that more animals are killed by the raising of produce than by the raising of livestock. Not only are animals displaced by the crops, but pesticides kill many animals. Crops raised without pesticide have worse yields and require more land, thus displacing more animals than crops raised without fertilizer or pesticide/agricide.

Also, consider that killing animals and eating meat is lawful according to AQ. Here are a few supporting evidences

267 And Moses said to his people "GOD orders you to slaughter a heifer." They said "Do you mock us?" He said "I seek refuge with GOD that I not be of the ignorant ones."

5222 We will supply them with fruit and meat such as they desire.

51 O you who believe, honor your contracts. Made lawful for you are the animals of the livestock, except that which is being recited to you. You are not permitted to hunt the game while you are under restriction. GOD decrees as He pleases.

2054 Eat and raise your livestock, in that are signs for those of thought.

2228 So that they may witness benefits for themselves, and mention the name of GOD in the appointed days over what He has provided for them of the animal livestock. So eat from it and feed the needy and the poor.

6145 Say "I do not find in what is inspired to me to be unlawful for any eater to eat except that it be already dead, or running blood, or the meat of pig - for it is foul - or what is a wickedness, dedicated to other than GOD." But whoever is forced to, without seeking disobedience or transgression, then your Lord is Forgiving, Merciful.

226 GOD does not shy away from putting forth the example of a mosquito, or anything above it. As for those who believe, they know that it is the truth from their Lord. As for the rejecters, they say "What does GOD intend with this example?" He strays many by it, and He guides many by it; but He only strays by it the wicked.

Meat eating is common in nature. Humans are designed to eat meat (and non meats as well). Have you considered the caterpillar wasp? It lays its eggs in living caterpillars. The wasp maggot eats the caterpillar alive, from the inside out. ALLAH designed things this way. Creation isn't always pretty according to our understanding, and we are part of creation.

          http//www.pbs.org/wnet/nature/episodes/alien-empire/caterpillar-wasps/3415/

          ALLAH knows best.

          peace

Part of the reason you feel this way is that we are so detached these days from the source of our food. Back in the days you'd have to kick your prey's ass then cut it open with a jagged rock. I doubt people those days thought of death 'the most revolting thing ever'. Granted, farming methods are sickening these days. Let's not throw the tasty chicken out with the bloodwater though.

Peace to all who seek truth,
Yesterday on my way to a photographer I saw one of the scariest most revolting things in my life! An open truck from a slaugher house, with skinned cows hanging upise down. And I thought wait, do I eat that? Is it right to hurt another creation of allah that breathes and feels pain? This cannot be right, therefore the following night I stopped eating meat. I need quranist answers, and if I don't get something specific I will be considering changing my faith! With Sikhism being the first that fits my philosophical profile, I used to be a Christian , by the way.

Sisters and brothers, please answer! '(

              Salaam,

That video is horrible. Do you think Allah asked you to kill animals in the way that was shown in that video? NO!

BTW, if you read AlQuraan carefully, you will find no aayat mentioning about eating birds here. Cattle are preferred food for us, as far as I know, they don't have senses and they harm themselves even after they get pain.

Few years back I read in news paper that in Australia 1600 sheep jumped from a mountain, all of them. 1100 of them died and 500 were alive and some with broken legs. Do you know how? A sheep fell down from that 1600 and others followed that one even after seeing that sheep died, still they all jumped.

And if we stop eating cattle/live stock, very soon we may have to vacate earth. )

Cattle, animals, are going to die, even if we do not eat them. Plants are also living beings and also suffer.

So since everything that lives dies eventually, to say that we kill the animal that we eat is not to say anything. Natural death for many animal is gruesome, just as natural death for humans, without medical help many times is very painful. Most deaths for animal, be it from the wounds of accidents, from injuries caused by other animals, from desease or whatever are likely to bring more suffering than being sacrificed with due regard for them.

Death is not fun whiever way you look at it. What is important is that the animal who serve us during their lives or with their death live lives which are worth living for them, according to their species. That, as I see it, is the paramount factor intheir wellbeing. Crowding of poor beasts and keeping them indoors all the time as far as I am concerned, is inadmissible.

                Salaam

                  Salaam,

Yes, the Qur'aan allows us to eat animals. But please bear in mind, that the modern practice of animal breeding and slaughter does NOT resemble what it was back then (or so I believe, anyway).

In contemporary society, most animals we eat come from factory-farms, meaning that they are "mass-produced" where they suffer inhumane treatment such as being physically mutilated, injected with anti-biotics/hormones, and the list goes on. Such thing did not exist back then and I believe God will not approve the way animals are treated nowadays. The Qur'aan has set forth how animals should not be killed, i.e. not strangled, pushed off the cliff, suffered a violent blow, etc. My impression that animals should suffer as little pain as possible.

It is important to note, that the mass-production of meat in recent times is due to a high demand of meat (in Western countries at least, where I live). A lot of people eat meat like it's a part of their staple diet they will have bacon and egg for brekkie, cheeseburger for lunch and steak for dinner. Such high demand leads to mass production of meat whose practice is quite unethical (it's pretty much the way they can generate enough meat to meet the demand). The Qur'aan preaches everything in eating everything in moderation. I believe that is precisely the wisdom. If everyone eats meat in moderation, perhaps mass-production will not be necessary. Not many animals will have to go through cruel and painful treatment.

Back to the point, there is nothing wrong in breeding and slaughtering animals, if done in the most merciful way possible. It is possible to slaughter animals, without inflicting too much pain. Not all methods of breeding and slaughtering animals are terrible.

Regarding vegetarianism, it is not necessarily THE best and most ethical solution out there. Have you ever thought of the current conventional method of farming? The way companies use excessive amount of pesticides that is harmful to the environment? Don't forget that they also use commercial fertilisers that are harmful to the soil in the long term. Such fertilisers will strip the soil from all its inherent goodness which will make it unsuitable for farming in the future, and raise the risk of soil erosion. Do you think that is ethical?

The key about "ethical" or "humane" practice is not really about what food you eat (i.e. animals or plants), but more about how the food has been farmed/bred/slaughtered.

I'd rather eat organic animals who have been bred with utmost care, than conventional-farmed vegetables loaded with pesticides (which have harmed the environment and its local habitat).

                  Salaam.

                    Salaam BA,

What do you mean by too much here? Can you please elaborate? Why would Allah need to give even little pain to poor animals? Is there no way that we can eat them without giving them any pain? Yes, there is, please check 2236

Allah surely don't allow the ways shown in that video. That was very disturbing, the killers of those birds and animals are not humans they themselves are beasts (animals). brickwall

                      Selam,

I have given this a lot of thought (couldn't sleep yesterday because of the problem). Of course I give my greatest thanks to all who gave answers to the question. In the end I came up that

                      1. It is natural for us to eat animals, we have carnivore teeth. However, the way animals are treated on today's farms is absolutely unacceptable, therefore as a form of a protest I do not eat it at all. Also, moderation is important . in my household , meat is eaten nearly everyday. I hold the same belief that mass production should be possible to stop trough moderation. I think it is healthy to eat meat 2 day a week, but I'm unsure, that's what I've heard somewhere. Also I do not think that young animals that are to be eaten should be killed but at the edge of their life, but not too old, or filled with disease; because as Allah said , animals form communities like humans and I believe everyone should have a right to establish a family before being slaughtered.

                      2. I think that the formless one gave us an amazing choice that other animals can't make, we can choose not to eat meat; some sufis did practice vegetarianism , by the way.

Anyway, sorry for the confusion, I used to be on this forum but I harshly deleted my account because I thought I wouldn't comeback to Islam. I was wrong therefore I created another acount under the same name. Sorry for any confusions.

Peace and good day. sun I am very satisfied with my conculsions, and they wouldn't be possible without this forum community , thank you!

Why exactly would you need to change faith just because you want to be a vegetarian or more conscious about eating animals?

Nothing in Islam stops you from being a vegetarian and there is no religion of vegetarianism.

Trying to understand your thought process.

Basically, a cow has flat teetch because they only eat grass. But we have thos sharp teeth in front, called inscisors I believe, in English. Aditionally the teeth form a zig-zaggy shape, which further helps to decompose meat. Our stomach is adapted to eat meat. Like it adapted itself to drink milk and stuff.
