Never clubs, sometimes i end up in pubs but i just have a coke or something and it's awkward.
It's really hard to be social in a country where everything almost completely revolves around drinking.

I know what you mean by the social culture being driven around the consumption of alcohol-and in such excess, might I add! I don't mix in those circles so anymore, but I know when I was a student I never felt pressurised to drink nor did I have the desire to do so. I did find, however, having grown up in a Muslim family, I was very conscious of being around alcohol and very cautious to avoid anything I deemed as "contamination", but the farther into my student life (which was a very long time ago now!), the less aware and averse I became to it. Nowadays, I very very occasionally have frequented a pub/ night club with work colleagues ("socialising&quot, but I don't enjoy the environment as it is something I have actively avoided in the main for the last six years.

Anyway, hold strong in what you beleive in and I hope I can do the same, insh'Allah.

        Peace.

        Sajda.

                Peace!

I have not read all of the contents of this thread. However, I just wanted to welcome you Yes, it's REAL indeed.

DaresBares, I felt the same way before I got married. Now, I mainly just hang out with my hubby and close family. It was really awkward getting together with a group of people because somehow alcohol or some other inappropriateness would enter the scene. sigh

I have only one advice for you.
