    Salamun alaiki, Ayesha,

    Excellent.

And everyone has a direction to the person standing shoulder to shoulder with him. When people are away from Ka'aba they do not stand in a circle. Therefore, there it is not Ka'aba with which every one in a long row could be face to face with Ka'aba-it being a rectangle House.
What is that with which everyone is face to face when away from Ka'aba?

Not sure what you mean Mazhar.

Taking the Kaaba as 'the qibla' in 2.144 so anywhere in the world one is supposed to face that.....so if you lived in India/Pakistan one would assume you would face west.........never thought about that, do you face west? o and at which point on the world map would that become facing east......as the earth is round........... hypno

Just checking other verses with same root letters.........I always thought it meant direction too, now I'm thinking it doesn't...........and why would the people of the book know it was right? Have to admit I am confused now on 2.142 -144.

      Peace scaredmuslimah,

We have seen you turning your face about the sky (searching for the right direction). We now assign a Qiblah that is pleasing to you. Henceforth, you shall turn your face towards the Sacred Masjid. Wherever you may be, all of you shall turn your faces towards it. Those who received the previous scripture know that this is the truth from their Lord. GOD is never unaware of anything they do.

The Qiblah depends on your position in relation to the kaaba.
Example, if you are due north of the kaaba then the qiblah would be south
if you are south of the kaaba then the qiblah would be north
because we are to "face" the kaaba
in mecca, that would entail 360 degrees if the kaaba was surrouned
because everyone would be facing the kaaba

" Wherever you may be, all of you shall turn your faces towards it."

The building has a mosque built around it, the Masjid al-Haram. All Muslims around the world are supposed to face the Kaaba during prayers, no matter where they are. From any given point in the world, the direction facing the Kaaba is called the Qibla.

We have rendered the shrine (the Ka'aba) a focal point for the people, and a safe sanctuary. You may use Abraham's shrine as a prayer house. We commissioned Abraham and Ismail "You shall purify My house for those who visit, those who live there, and those who bow and prostrate."

Similarities between "baca" in the bible and "Makkah" in the holy quran

      1. As how you read previously, "Bakka" is mentioned as the other name of "Mecca" in quran. The word "BAKKA" (in quran) is the same as "BACA" (in bible) you read in my previous explanations about "Ash-shaddat" the only difference between these two words is the "ash-shaddat".

      2. Psalms 845 shows that "baca" is city of pilgrimge, and quran also show that "bakka" is city of pilgrimage.

      3. "Macca" (bakka) is God selected city according to both quran and bible.

      4. There is existing of well close to the ka,aba (zam-zam which is still existing upto now) according to quran, the most amazing is that even in the bible this city of "baca" was mentioned together with this well. This certainly proved that even bible confirmed the existing of ka,aba and Makka since the time of David.

No sensible person can reject that "Bakka" in quran is not mean "baca" in bible, because all describtions of "Baca" in bible and "Bakka" in quran are the same

Interested reader can read the history of building of ka'aba by Abraham on this link http//islamblogonline.wordpress.com/2011/07/28/the-story-of-the-building-of-kaab

I have to learn how to do the link thing

      Peace O0

        Salamun alaiki,

Ka'aba is a small rectangle. When you getting away from it and the straight row lengthens, people on both ends of the line would not be face to face with Ka'aba. Thereby, many will be just facing some direction, not Ka'aba.

For this reason, injunction is different when people are out of Masjid alHaram-the Mosque around Ka'aba.

We are indeed continuously seeing, O you the Messenger, the frequent turning of your face into the Sky.
For this reason, We swear-assure you that We will certainly give you the guardianship of the Qib'la'tan.
Fulfillment of this promise will make you persistently pleased.
Therefore , keep fronting face to the Sacred Mosque so long you are out-away from it.
And, wherever and from whatever direction you people have exited, thereat for reason you cause your selves face to face that Mosque, when you are out-away from it.
Know the fact that those people whom Book was given earlier certainly understand very well that this is an established fact ordained by their Sustainer Lord.
Beware, Allah the Exalted is never unmindful about that which acts they people are/keep doing.

Whether or not someone is exactly facing Mecca, geographically, is not of immense importance. No-one will notice if you are off some degrees, or if one considers the direction as a line pointing into space. The actual thing is that people INTEND and BELIEVE that they are facing the city of Mecca in KSA. That's what counts. Actually facing or not facing, will not have any real physical consequences. It's not like a laser beam that either hits or misses its target. And 'facing' just means in what compass direction you are turned... it's a 2-dimensional thing. I think it is simply of matter of deciding in what 2-D direction to turn, to face, and of course, whether or not at all one thinks that qibla is a geographical direction of turning.

          Peace

But why would the earlier people know this was the truth?

Okay I remove it which I inserted to let know the reader to what "this" pronoun refers. I remove and use the direct words for masculine pronoun.

Quibla in Quran is Allah only. its the rightous to Face Allah(quibla) from the time you wake up till the time you go to sleep, wherever youre walking on earth face it(Allah).. not a focal point..that will not be very logical if its a real place..one canoot live looking/facing a specific spot all time and in all ocasions..thats not very logical

                Salaam Allah knows best

It is not that simple. Earlier, Jews and christians are told that turning faces to East or West-----

People of Book sanctify direction of East and West.
Allah the Exalted has also given the reason for facing Masjid alHaram when away from Kaaba.

so that argument-counter reason-accusation might not lie for the people of Book against you people,

Qiblata is feminine. What you are saying is in 2115.

Does anyone know some benefits of facing a certain geographical direction? Why would we do that? What's the point? (Apart from blind faith and 'God says so&#039

The idea of everyone praying at the same time in a similar way doesn't seem inherantly bad in itself, I think. Perhaps more beneficial for "unity of the ummah" reasons as opposed to simple prayer though, I dunno.

                          Peace Zulf,

What Allah says is enough, obedience first, understanding second.

My understanding is that it organizationally proficient for everyone to do the same thing.
If we got together to make congregational worship it would be best if we faced the same
                          direction.
If I faced east and you faced west and the person to your right faced north and the person
to to my left faced south that would not be an efficient way to conduct worship. And remember
there could be rows and rows of worshipers.

                              peace all,

I have read Christians face East during their prayer but I do not know how early this practice was.

I have never read Jews facing West, unless they were east of Jerusalem, hence face it by facing west. Traditional sources state these verses, i.e. 2142-150 were revealed in Medina, meaning Jews facing west is not possible, as Jerusalem is clearly north-west from there.

There are various other issues regarding these verses. I am currently analysing them for part 3 of my series on sujud. GW, will be finished shortly.

All information is correct to the best of my knowledge only and thus should not be taken as a fact. One should always seek knowledge and verify for themselves when possible: 17:36, 20:114, 35:28, 49:6, 58:11.

                                Peace Zulf,

Obedience is the condition that believers must exhibit before God and his messengers,

The only utterance of the believers, whenever invited to GOD and His messenger to judge in their affairs, is to say, "We hear and we obey." These are the winners.
You shall obey GOD and His messenger, and do not dispute among yourselves, lest you fail and scatter your strength. You shall steadfastly persevere. GOD is with those who steadfastly persevere.
Those who disbelieve would say, "If only a miracle could come down to him from his Lord (we would believe)." Say, "GOD sends astray whomever He wills, and guides to Him only those who obey."
Notice that understanding is not a prerequisite for obedience.
Understanding is a branch of wisdom,
While obedience is a branch of trust

                                Agreed.
Without first having understanding, then what is your obedience worth? 1736! If we don't understand what Allah has said, then we'll just follow conjecture.

We would not be following conjecture if we obey Allah

                                1736
I'm not sure that this verse includes God and his messenger, maybe you could expound.

                                Peace O0

Okay, so now that I read 2143-144 here is what I get

God made the previous qibla only to see who would be obedient and who would disobey, and now that we have been given the order to face the Sacred Mosque, we are no longer to face the previous qibla.

                                  Am I understanding that correctly?

There is no such thing "previous Qiblata". Meccans had all along only one-whatever they did in the past, they always revered Ka'aba and it was always the centre of their attraction. Those of the Jews and Christians who accepted Qur'aan, reverted from their man made Qiblata of direction East and West to original Qiblata Ka'aba.

Notice that understanding is not a prerequisite for obedience.
Understanding is a branch of wisdom,
While obedience is a branch of trust

Right, but we need to be careful whom we trust. It takes discernment to trust the right sources. The messengers are not walking around us today, as far as I'm aware, so all we have is the quran, and inner guidance from Allah. The quran has to be understood correctly (as much as possible) to follow it properly. I don't think cutting a thief's hand displays much understanding or wisdom... but it many times shows blind trust in mullahs and s.c. scholars n elders.

You are right in what you say, but in practice it becomes a bit more tricky.

We would not be following conjecture if we obey Allah

This is true. But aren't there at the same time lots of people of think they follow Allah, but it is painfully obvious that they don't. I'm talking about e.g. people who are into suppression and oppression... but they still think they're obeying Allah and messenger. So they don't understand.

                                      1736
I'm not sure that this verse includes God and his messenger, maybe you could expound.

oh, 1736 is about what we accept and why... you know, about verifying stuff first. I thought it was suitable with regard to obedience, trust, wisdom and understanding. You're right, the verse is not about Allah and any of its messengers.

And pursue not that of which thou hast no knowledge; for every act of hearing, or of seeing or of (feeling in) the heart will be enquired into (on the Day of Reckoning).

I agree that we need to trust Allah, especially when we are lost. The alternative would be to trust our minds, which often is a recipe for suffering. But I guess the point is something else. The real issue is WHY we decide to follow something by trust only, and HOW we came to the conclusion of doing this. If the answer to these things is that we do it because we trust that Allah will guide us further and better, then it is good. But to avoid understanding matters out of fear of questioning, or out of tradition, then it is not so good. I mean, the quran speaks about both trust and verification, without contradiction, so we have to understand what is required when.

                                      Peace bro!

I don't understand why people relate "qiblata" with "salaat", is there any relation mentioned in AlQuraan between these two for us? Please do let me know, thanks.
