The banned militant organisation Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), which claimed responsibility of shooting 14-year-old peace activist Malala Yousafzai in the head, issued a statement Wednesday, using Islamic Shariah to defend the attack.

In the statement sent out by TTP spokesman Ehsanullah Ehsan from an undisclosed location, the banned outfit said that although they do not believe in attacking women, ?whom so ever leads a campaign against Islam and Shariah is ordered to be killed by Shariah.?

The assassination attempt on the life of the young National Peace Award winner has drawn widespread condemnation from the government, political parties and civil society groups, terming it a bid to silent voice for peace and education.

The statement says that it is ?not just allowed ? but obligatory in Islam? to kill such a person involved ?in leading a campaign against Shariah and (who) tries to involve whole community in such campaign, and that personality becomes a symbol of anti-Shariah campaign.?

Malala had won international recognition for highlighting Taliban atrocities in Swat with a blog for the BBC three years ago, when the Islamist militants burned girls? schools and terrorised the valley.

Her struggle resonated with tens of thousands of girls who were being denied an education by the militants across northwest Pakistan, where the government has been fighting the local Taliban since 2007.

The Taliban statement further challenges ? with Quranic and religious references ? condemnation of the assassination attempt on the tender-aged girl, adding that it is a clear command of Shariah that any female playing a role in ?war against mujahideen? should be killed.

?If anyone argues that she was female, and then we can see the incident of killing of wife by a blind companion of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) because she used to say demeaning words for the Prophet and the Prophet praised that act,? it argues equating the TTP act with that of a the prophet?s companion.

The statement goes on to defend the attack with a reference from the time of Hazrat Khizar, a revered figure in Islamic history who was described as a righteous servant of God and endowed with the qualities of unmatched wisdom and mystic power.

?If anyone argues about her young age, then the story of Hazrat Khizar in the Quran (states that) while traveling with Prophet Musa (AS), (he) killed a child. Arguing about the reason of his killing, he said that the parents of this child were pious and in the future he (the child) would cause a bad name for them,? adds the statement.

Malala Yousufzai, who was also nominated for the International Children?s Peace Prize by advocacy group KidsRights Foundation in 2011, had raised her voice against the militants? ban on and threats against education for women in Swat.

The Taliban spokesman defends the education-ban in the statement, saying ?Tehrik-i-Taliban?s crime wasn?t that they banned education for girls. Instead, our crime was that we tried to bring education system for both boys and girls under Shariah. We are against co-education and secular education system, and Shariah orders us to be against it.?

The statement further defends the assassination attempt, blaming the media for spreading ?propaganda against Taliban mujahideen with their poisonous tongues.?

?If anyone thinks that Malala was targeted because of education, that is absolutely wrong, and propaganda of media. Malala was targeted because of her pioneer role in preaching secularism and so called enlightened moderation. And whomsoever will commit so in future too will be targeted again by TTP,? it adds.

        Dear Good Logic

The scary part is that they believed they were obligated to carry out such attacks based on Sharia !!

When you do that, you have no remorse.

That I doubt. I think that is not religious faith but political convenience and lack of scruples, but their script says to discredit and desecrate the revelation and the collectivity of muslims. I very much doubt that behind that there is any sincere belief.

By the way I didn't know there was a god called sharia.

Since when did God tell us to discourage education?
"The worst creatures in the sight of God are the deaf and the dumb--Those who do not reason (Quran 822)
God "Shames those who do not think. (Quran 10100)

I was just talking to a friend in pakistan over email, he's saying a lot of country's citizens seem to be pretty upset about the incident/annoyed at TTP. This seems to be affirmed by the government's condemnation of the incident + the newspaper reports. That's something, atleast?

I'll have the girl in my prayers, hope she not only recovers but stays safe afterwards.

Dear Youseff, you said "The Queen of Sheba wasn't such a bad Monarch!

True. Angela Merkel of Germany is not doing a bad job at all while the rest of Europe is facing financial difficulties!!

I hope this incident wakes up the Pakistanis who cannot seem to make up their mind what kind of country they want. Malala's or of those who killed her. We have Taliban sympathizers in the media, in the army, among the masses and in the business community!

Time has come to draw the line and decide what kind of country Pakistan needs to be.

Taliban's Response. Twisted logic, disasterous results

                      Letter from the TTP

                      Chris Cork

I got an email from the Taliban telling me why they
shot Malala. Here is the text.

TTP successfully targeted Malala Yousafzai in
Mingora, although she was young and a girl and TTP
does not believe in attacking on women, but whom so
ever leads campaign against Islam & Shariah is
Ordered to be killed by Shariah.
When its a matter of Shariah, and someone tries to
bring fitnah with his/her activities, and it involves in
leading a campaign against shariah and tries to
involve whole community in such campaign, and that
personality become a symbol of anti shariah
campaign, not just its allowed to kill such person but
                      its Obligatory in Islam.
If anyone Argues about her so young age , then the
Story of Hazrat Khizar in Quran that relates that
Hazrat Khizar while Traveling with Prophet Musa (AS)
killed a child, arguing about the reason of his killing
he said that the parents of this child are Pious and in
future he will cause bad name for them.
If anyone argues that she was female, then we can
see the incident of killing of wife by a blind
Companion of Prophet Muhammad (S.A.W.W) because
she use to say insultive words for prophet. And
                      prophet praised this act.
Its a clear command of shariah that any female, that
by any means play role in war against mujahideen,
should be killed.Malala Yousafzai was playing a vital
role in bucking up the emotions of Murtad army and
Government of Pakistan, and was inviting muslims to
                      hate mujahideen.
Tehrik taliban's crime wasn't that they banned
education for girls, instead our crime is that we tried
to bring Education system for both boys and girls
under shariah. We are deadly against co-education
and secular education syestem, and shriah orders us
                      to be against it.
If anyone thinks thinks that Malala is targeted
because of education, that's absolutely wrong, and a
propaganda of Media, Malala is targeted because of
her pioneer role in preaching secularism and so called
enlightened moderation. And whom so ever will
commit so in future too will be targeted again by TTP.
After this incident Media pour out all of its smelly
propaganda against Taliban mujahideen with their
poisonous tounges, they are shouting that malala has
suffered tyranny like there is no else in the country
whom is facing same. Were our sister in lal masjid
whom were bombed, gassed and burnt to death, were
not humans?? and the sinless women and children of
swat , bajour, mohmand, orakzai, & Wazeeristan
whom suffered inhumane bombardments by Murtad
army don't qualify to bestow mercy upon them?
Will the blind media pay any attention to Hundreds of
Respectful sisters whom are in secret detention
centers of ISI and MI and suffering by their captives?
Will you like to put an eye on more then three
thousand young men whom are killed in secret
detention centers and their bodies are found in
different areas of swat, claimed to be killed in
encounters and died by Cardiac Arrest??

Opinion among average Pakistanis about a North Waziristan operation is also mixed. Zamman Watto, a lawyer in the eastern city of Lahore, said the government should not launch an offensive because ?this will have a very adverse impact on the security situation in the country in the form of suicide attacks by the militants.?

Maqbool Khan, a teacher in the northwest city of Peshawar, urged the military to push into North Waziristan, saying ?the government should act against terrorists wherever they are hiding.?

The government will need to move quickly if it wants to capitalize on public outrage over the attack, said Maleeha Lodhi, a former Pakistani ambassador to the US.

?As time passes on from the Malala incident, public opinion could shift again, as it often has in the past after a terrorist attack,? Lodhi wrote in a column in The News on Tuesday. ?The window of public consent for any action will then begin to close.?
