    Peace everyone,

A lady at the place I work once asked me, ".....then what about pregnant women during fasting days?" I read the entire Quran, but never came across this. God makes an exception for the travelers and ill people, but I think being pregnant is much harder than performing those two "duties".

This is what the Quran says

"Ramadan is the month during which the Quran was revealed, providing guidance for the people, clear teachings, and the statute book. Those of you who witness this month shall fast therein. Those who are ill or traveling may substitute the same number of other days. GOD wishes for you convenience, not hardship, that you may fulfill your obligations, and to glorify GOD for guiding you, and to express your appreciation."

Just wondering, why doesn't it address any exception for pregnant women because obviously fasting for them would be near to impossible.

Thanks and happy Ramadan (in places where it has started) )

      1. A few number of days. Whoever of you is ill or traveling, then the same number from different days; and as for those who can do so but with difficulty, they may redeem by feeding the needy. And whoever does good voluntarily, then it is better for him. And if you fast it is better for you if you knew.

      2. A month in early autumn, in which the Quran was sent down as a guide to the people and a clarification of the guidance and the criterion. Therefore, whoever of you can observe the season, then let him fast therein. And whoever is ill or traveling, then the same number from different days. God wants to bring you ease and not to bring you hardship; and so that you may complete the count, and glorify God for what He has guided you, that you may be thankful.

            Peace marie, Dell and all

I have some observations if I may

1- A pregnant woman is not an ill person, it's not illness.

2- A Woman having her menstruations is not an ill person neither. She should be observing the "fast" anyway.

3- Where is the limit for children to begin to "fast" at puberty?. There's no indication on this matter in the scripture.

              peace someone,

Can you clarify/expand what you mean?

              Wakas

All information is correct to the best of my knowledge only and thus should not be taken as a fact. One should always seek knowledge and verify for themselves when possible: 17:36, 20:114, 35:28, 49:6, 58:11.

                Peace Wakas,

Traditionaly, we were thought that at puberty, we would have to fast like the adults. But there's no indication of such a condition in the scripture.

I don't know where people came with this condition from. If there's no such condition in the reading, then should children "fast" also?

                  Salaams,

interesting ayats ,showing what is and isn't forbidden during a fast

                  1. ?So eat and drink and be happy. If you see any human being, then Say ?I have declared a fast for the Almighty, and I WILL NOT TALK today to any of mankind

                  2. It has been made lawful for you during the night of fasting to approach your women sexually. They are a garment for you and you are a garment for them. God knows that you used to betray your souls so He has accepted your repentance, and forgiven you; now you may approach them and seek what God has written for you and eat and drink until the white thread is distinct from the black thread of dawn; then you shall complete the fast until night; and DO NOT APROACH THEM(SEXUALLY-I PRESUME) while you are devoted in the submissions. These are God?s boundaries, so do not transgress them. It is thus that God makes His revelations clear to the people that they may be righteous.

So No excuses , and don't say it isn't clear, and it's nothing about food and drink?????????????????

                  Is it?

Thanks for your thought provoking quistions Someone.

                  Salaam.

                    peace someone,

I don't know where people came with this condition from.

Its probably from traditional sources, like most things.

If there's no such condition in the reading, then should children "fast" also?

I would have thought one would "fast" when one wishes to follow al quran.

                      Peace Mohammed, all

We cannot generalize. We agree neither pregnancy nor the menstruations are a disease and they are natural phenomena but can be accompanied by the annoyances and it involves the pain and vomiting. One can need medicines or to eat.

Allah wants to bring us ease and not to bring us hardship.
About children, they can observe abstinence if they can support it physically without the annoyances or great difficulty.
