      Peace

I don't think that one's appearance can ever show their beliefs. I can't measure anyone's allegiance to something based off of their way of dressing or grooming. Belief is a matter of the heart. It's personal and between each individual and God.

        Peace,

Don't be fooled by appearances or words, the Quran is the criterior by which to judge.

When you see them, you may be impressed by their looks. And when they speak, you may listen to their eloquence. They are like standing logs. They think that every call is intended against them. These are the real enemies; beware of them. GOD condemns them; they have deviated.

Yusuf Ali When thou lookest at them, their exteriors please thee; and when they speak, thou listenest to their words. They are as (worthless as hollow) pieces of timber propped up, (unable to stand on their own). They think that every cry is against them. They are the enemies; so beware of them. The curse of Allah be on them! How are they deluded (away from the Truth)!

The only realistic way that belief is expressed is through action.
I agree with the previous posters.

Trying to keep a certain appearance with a purpose to display one's faith only encourages sects, discrimination, judgement, separation, shallowness and a non-spiritual mindset, and stems in insecurity and neediness for belonging... which in reality means that you feel no real connection with Allah, as that is the ultimate, intimate and only belonging you'd ever need.

When we are born we carry no identifiers on our bodies. Nobody cares whether we are Tory or Republican. Whether we believe Dictatorship or Democracy to be better. Whether Communism or Capitalism.
When we grow up do we need to show whether we donated to Greenpeace or PETA? Does the guy who jumped into the river to save a woman need to qualify that he was a Muslim who saved a non-Muslim woman or vice versa? Hardly!
Would the Muslim man have jumped had he known the woman had Pagan beliefs? Of course, yes.

Why wear the heart on our sleeves? Does it help anyone?
