Tafsir is commentary, so someone else's explanation of Allah's explanation.

7.174, 75.19, 6.55, 4.26, 7.58 and others show that Allah gives the explanation in Quran, so Quran has it's own tafsir in it. peace

Asbabul nuzul is reasons for revelation. It's a concept in traditional Islamic studies that some tafseer (exegesis) is derived from.
If tafseer means New Revelation, then according to Qur'an, its verses were Tafseer to the Prophet's contemporaries who questioned why the Qur'an was revealed intermittently.

      Salaam

25.32 Those who reject Faith say "Why is not the Qur'an revealed to him all at once? Thus (is it revealed), that We may strengthen thy heart thereby, and We have rehearsed it to thee in slow, well-arranged stages, gradually.
25.33 And no question do they bring to thee but We reveal to thee the truth and the best explanation (thereof).

if you think about the time of revelation there would be thousands of questions thrown at the prophet. He was told not to hasten with it.

75.16 Move not thy tongue concerning the (Qur'an) to make haste therewith.
75.17 It is for Us to collect it and to promulgate it
75.18 But when We have promulgated it, follow thou its recital (as promulgated)
75.19 Nay more, it is for Us to explain it (and make it clear)

I don't go with the traditional hadith belief that each question thrown at him was then answered by revelation but more a 'shut up and wait, it's coming' type of thing. Point was that many were too much in haste and were more thinking about what to ask than trying to make sense of what was being revealed.

      peace

Just what I wanted to say. Its like throwing away the tafseer of ibn kathir and instead welcome the tafseer of someone else. Whats the point then? confused

        Salam.

Why do you let Ibn Kathir explain the Qur'an to you?

If you follow Ibn Kathir, he will tell you things, for example, a very famous quote - "The earth is resting on the horns of a great bull. When he shakes his head he brings earthquakes."

Seriously? And how can people be so gullible?

The only book that the messenger delivered to the world is the Quran (619)
The sole mission of the messenger is to deliver the message (1635)
We have been commanded to follow the Quran alone (72-3; 1746)
The Quran contains everything that we need for guidance (1689)
God did not leave anything out of the Quran (63
The best hadith is the Quran (3923)
In which hadith, besides God and His revelations do they believe? (456)

Do we have something like Qur'an-alone tafseer? If so, where can I get it?

            Thanks.
            peace

Here is "Exposition of Holy Quran" by GA Parwez, written based on focusing Quran alone. It is actually not a word by word translation....you will find justification for this approach in the initial pages.

            The first uploaded file in http//resurgentislam.com;

            Alhamdulillah always
