    Salam Aleykom )

I have a question about verse 631 in the Quran. It seems to be the verse used in many arguements against the two shahadas. Mind you, I'm not supportive of it, but I would like some information in case someone were to debate with me, and I cannot give them an answer.

"When the hypocrites come to you, , they say, "We testify that you are the Messenger of Allah ." And Allah knows that you are His Messenger, and Allah testifies that the hypocrites are liars." Al-Quran.

My question is...it seems on the surface reading just this verse that Allah is ostracizing those who bear witness that Muhammad is the messenger, and that there is no need for them to do so, because Allah testifies it Himself. And therefore those people are hypocrites.

    However in the next verse

"They have taken their oaths as a cover, so they averted from the way of Allah . Indeed, it was evil that they were doing." Al-Quran.

You see that Allah gives context to who these hypocrites are, and what it is that they did wrong. They did not commit wrong by testifying Muhammad is a messenger, but that they lied about it.

So my question is How then can we tell sunnis that this is proof we shouldn't testify Muhammad as a messenger, as is done in the two shahada?

I know there is no mention in the Quran as far as I know, about any need to testify with the two shahadas, but I just wanted to put this out there in case someone can enlighten me or point me to another verse that may further clarify.

    Thank you )

Be aware of the one from amongst distinct group of people (in those days, Jew) who proclaim verbally,

"We have accepted the belief in Allah the Exalted and the Last Day".

Such people declare it while they have certainly not become the believers.

They are Muna'fi'qeen, the first characteristic feature of Muna'fi'qeen is their claim of believing in Allah, the Last Day and just saying that Muhammad Sal'lallaa'hoalaih'wa'salam is the Messenger of Allah as told in 6301. Therefore, it should not be translated by the word Hypocrite, since amongst non believers there could be hypocrites but they are NOT Muna'fi'qeen, they will have a better class-place in Hell-Prison than Muna'fi'qeen.

Please read about them in 28 to 219

Well, I think the better argument against testifying Muhammad is that we should not make differences between the messengers (2285, 4152) and also that we should concern ourselves with things we have no knowledge about (1736).

          peace.

The true Shahada is in 318

          1. we Cannot BEAR WITNESS that muhammed is a messenger because he is dead and no longer a messenger
          2. We are commanded to NOT make a distinction between messengers
          3. Putting muhammed's name besides God's name is setting up partners with God
