As Salaam Alaikum

As Salaam Alaikum,
Hello. I am from the United States and was raised in a Muslim family. My father is a Sunni. My mother isn't a sunni but hangs out with other sunnis and likely doesn't have a clear opinion about hadiths.Me, I have always found something very wrong with them. For the past several years I have enjoyed this website, different groups on the internet, and other websites that advocate "Quran only".
Unfortunately, I am married to a man who believes in hadiths and many other things that are not in the Quran (Dear brothers and sisters I really encourage you to find a spouse who believse in Quran-only. Do not settle. Be patient and find someone.). This is a big issue for us in our relationship and we try to avoid this conversation as much as possible. We have a child together now, and now I am more determined to raise him in a nice Muslim home and have him understand the difference between what I believe and what his father believes. I really hope when my son is old enough to make his own decisions he will reject hadiths as well.
Like many of you, I too share that feeling of being alone in my beliefs in my own community. I rarely ever go to the mosques, socialize with other "Muslims", and neither can I relate to them. Hadiths are so sewed into their fabric of their lives it is hard to have a conversation with them. When they bring up what is "haraam", I can just raise my eyebrows and say, "Well, if that is what you believe."
I use to wear a "hijab", and I even wore skirts for about a year. Sometimes I really miss that feeling of belonging to a community... a cult. And doing all of that other "traditional" stuff people do. But when I was living that life I knew it was a lie and mostly about "image".
Anyways, I feel that it is really time for us to raise our voice even louder. Every day I think of who is going to be our own version of MARTIN LUTHER--- he was the one who called out the Catholics about all of their innovations.
Also, I am a journalism student with a small background in film. Which brings me to askyou all to please check out my post under the "Projects/Conferences/Events" tab. I would really like to do a documentary and would like ideas on topics, people to interview, etc.

As SAlaam AlaikumI am not sure about raising kids. remember most here were never raised as Quranist. And by the time your child grows the Quranist persuasion would have grown even more. The reality is the Quranic message was never intended for kids. So I am not sure this should be a real problem for you. As long as your husband is not trying to shove his belief on you than I don't see the reason for conflict. Sometimes some Quranist are tempted to try to shove their belief on others. Remember there is a difference between following the Koran and contradicting it. Sunni rituals do not contradict the Quran but their fiqh many times do. But the fiqh side that contradict the Quran is mostly about state legislation and not worshiping rituals. Sunnis tend to view many things as haram that most Quranist consider trivial or not serious. But even if they do that doe snot necessary contradict the Koran. Its just not sanctioned by it as such. There are other differences as we know but they do not necessarily fall in the individual domain.
But i believe that Quranist can be over zealous sometimes with Sunnis.
Maybe you can give us more specific examples about the religious situation between you and your husband.

Peace tryingtofindthetruth,
You've found the ultimate truth. God. Now, finding those other truths that reside with Him, will be a lifelong journey. I hope you join us on that journey.
I am also waiting for our Martin Luther!! Perhaps, we're all Martin Luthers?
