4148 God does not like that any negative sayings be publicized, except if one is wronged. God is Hearer, Knowledgeable.

The understanding I had from this was that we are not to make evil, private matters open to the general public, like gossiping about things which should remain private. That the best I've got and I have doubts that this is the right understanding. I have read people speaking about the sins they have done on this website, which are private negative sayings, either they are committing sin or I have completely missed something... Please help ) Peace

      Salam

What translation are you using? It is a little vague.......According to the Quran I am reading it is clearly stated it has to do with gossiping. If you are affected you can talk about it and people are allowed to respond to you. But if you are not affected then it is better to not talk.....

        A (slightly) more accurate translation

God does not like the public mention of evil except (by the one) who has been wronged. And God is Hearing, Knowing.

To me the verse is very clear. Do not gossip or say evil things about people, unless you are been wronged.

I think it is plain thorugh common sense. Everybody or almost considers bad gossiping as a bad, even evil thing. So do not do it, except that harm comes to you from silencing it.

          Salaam

Allah the Exalted does not approve-appreciate the public statements loaded with evil-defamatory-character assassination implications except the outcry by a person who has been wronged-met with injustice.
And Allah the Exalted is eternally The Listener, The Absolute Knowledgeable; Knower of visible and invisible.
