What are you on about? Emotions? Or emoticons? Alternatively, are you saying anything that goes against an emotionless state (peace apparently) is anti quranic? Peace is emotionless? I don't understand this fascination with no emotions and the hyped up peace slogan.

When 'The Jewel of Peace' is shattered it is splintered into worthless emotional pieces; peace is neither 'fascination nor hyped up slogan' but God endowed blessing upon a soul; these 'emoticons' are nothing but caricatured emotions - an exaggerated mockery - insulting one's injured peace.

It's actually a feeling and subjective in a way so yes, an emotion...

There you are confused and stranded between emotions and peace ....

we'll have feelings against and for throughout our lives, it's the push and pull that makes us understand peace whether in regards to ourselves or others/things...

Somebody has to 'push' and somebody has to 'pull' - but you cannot act on your own when you are a broken heart with hyped-up emotions by people around you; yet, people near and dear to you should cry at you even to the extent of begging to you please calm down for heaven's sake; have some peace lest you should suffer a heart attack. Peace is not a fascination or hyped up slogan but it is the blessing from God Himself. You cannot afford to lose Peace in exchange for emotions.

you can't say anger/hilarity etc is haram or so on, it's part of the process. Full on neutrality or an emotionless state would be where you feel nothing, not even peace. One could term it as peaceful from the outside but do you actually think the person made tranquil would be feeling it? If so, then he's not completely emotionless.

Any ayat to support this, let us exchange our opinions instead of blind talks.

...I mean does it make one feel like a jedi or something? I thought the grey jedi concept was far more realistic, appealing and quranic than the extremist jedi/sith philosophy.

Fictitious philosophies and sci-fi caricatures, animated graphics are rustic and appalling. I have no fancy for it. Speak of ayats which could elevate us to a greater level of understanding ability.

One accepts their emotions, controls them and tries to keep a balance. No veering off to either side in throes of denial or a race to the finish in regards to our base urges or self righteously pumping ourselves full of holier than thou paladin-ness for example. We're human after all, don't see that changing anytime soon. May as well learn from it.

    There again.

    Peace.

What is this? Deliberate density? Or oblivious 'let's just stir everything up in one pot and call it a day'...? Let's break it down since it seems you don't want to

        • so when peace is not shattered it is a collection of emotion?
        • there are many God endowed blessings
        • why not ban words too while you're at it, they seem better suited to insult ones injured peace rather than one emoticon.

There you are confused and stranded between emotions and peace ....
You evidently seem to know all about peace, so tell me...where do you get no emotions = peace...?

Somebody has to 'push' and somebody has to 'pull' - but you cannot act on your own when you are a broken heart with hyped-up emotions by people around you; yet, people near and dear to you should cry at you even to the extent of begging to you please calm down for heaven's sake; have some peace lest you should suffer a heart attack. Wait what now? broken heart? Alright. You don't seem to get how everything is connected do you? Peace is connected to conflict for example...emotions are connected to both. Peace doesn't fall from the sky, you achieve it. Emotions are not a pox on you, balance and control is what leads to peace. It doesn't mean no emotion.

Any ayat to support this, let us exchange our opinions instead of blind talks.
Given the ayat usage regarding the emoticon, I doubt it will lead to more clarity frankly.

Fictitious philosophies and sci-fi caricatures, animated graphics are rustic and appalling. I have no fancy for it. Speak of ayats which could elevate us to a greater level of understanding ability.
Right. Unfortunately what one puts in is what they get out. Signs are everywhere, limiting our horizons does no one any favours. I have no fancy for extremist thoughts directed towards one poor emoticon, but I spend time analysing this apparently very agitating issue that can birth a thread dedicated to it...such is life.

        There again.
You seem to be a non conceptual thinker. This discussion won't serve much purpose when one quotes verses that are irrelevant, especially in regards to an emoticon that can be used for different purposes not just for 'mocking'. It's like saying no more sporks in our house because they can be used to scoop out eyes easily and quote passages that have the word safety in Home Safety Guide 101. When someone says well they could but it wouldn't be the spork's fault...the response is any utensil is the tool of our emotions and emotions are anti Home Safety Guide 101 and lead one away from peace. Home Safety Guide 101 says (somehow, somewhere, who knows) emotions are the antithesis of peace! There have been many scooped out eyes and maybe even broken hearts due to frenzied spork usage! Voila case closed and utensils everywhere lament their doomed fate. Ditto for emoticons. Next would be fingers. Then ice picks, though what actual purpose ice picks serve other than in violent crime I have yet to see.

Some people champion human rights, some animal rights, it seems to have fallen on me to champion emoticon and utensil rights. I vow to bear this burden gladly and with minimal complaint (minimal being subjective). And in the midst of typing this reply, Sweet Emotions comes on the radio.

        Serendipity.

Anyway, I am not ridiculing myself; I tell good jokes, and that's when I use it when a seriously good joke is being told, either by myself or by someone else. Telling a good joke or being told a good joke does mot automatically equal ridiculing someone, unless you are actually ridiculing someone.

I only pointed out just one emotion rotfl which is not in conformity to Quran. You neither read my very first post nor did you care to get it properly. You mixed up all your instant emotions in one pot and have brought it to boiling point. Towards that one emoticon I gave 4 ayats to either ponder or discuss. But with the same collection of emotions you have dismissed it saying that the ayats would not help.

My post was only a request. You can take it or leave it.

                    Peace all,

Interesting topic... a bit unexpected. I'll just thrown in a few cents before this thread will wither away.

                    1. Emoticons are used in the same way as words, to communicate. This one rotfl , to me, indicates that the poster is finding something funny or "humoristic". This is neither positive nor negative in essence. It becomes what you make of it. Even a smile can be ridiculing and demeaning... but the smile itself is not bad.

                    2. I find that the emotions we feel, arise from our thought patterns that have been carved and entrained during our life, and possibly even inherited. The problem with emotions (and thoughts) is how we react to them. If we fail to realize that we are not our thoughts or emotions, then we will be slaves to them, constantly reacting in easily predicted ways. The real problem is when we identify with thoughts and emotions and believe that we, in essence, are only just that... a bunch of thoughts and emotions. So, emotions are only bad when we are slaves to them, but we cannot stop having emotions... unless of course we drug ourselves, or enter a coma. Emotions are part of our make-up and design, as created by Allah. Our challenge is to learn their real nature and not be swayed away by them. Thoughts and emotions, when acting as dictators in our heads, will breed resistance and destruction in our thinking and behavior. Look at the world and see the result! Viewing peace as the absence of emotion is not very helpful. Peace is when we are FREE from the dictatorship of emotions. Peace is when we can operate without running the errands of our emotions. Peace comes from Allah. Resistance and blindness comes from the mind.. from where emotions also come. Peace is the freedom which enables us to move closer to Allah and to develop ourselves. We are not our bodies either, but we'll have to live with them for now, because it's part of the plan... because we have to learn something from this situation. Same thing with emotions.

If there indeed is a stage that can be reached in this life... where you don't feel emotions, then it would still not be like what we think of when we imagine a life without emotions. It would be something else, something higher... and not empty. If this is a level of peace that we can attain here, then we'll still have to move through all other stages before reaching there.... the stages where you learn to break free from the dominion of your emotions.... and this is not easy. I believe this process is made up of salaa and zakaa... because it is really a process of purification... and we need Allah's help to progress in that. Only God knows what's possible and what's desired.

                    All the best

Thanks for the thoughts Zulf, I found it interesting reading.

I can't really imagine what it would be like to not have emotions and not feel empty in a sense. It might be something like having gone through the human stages of experiencing it all to truly understand and thus not need them anymore or some such. Sounds bleak Then again, if we get through this the end result might be more than emotional fulfillment (turned up to 11 etc)...which sounds awesome.

In my thread, "If only Allah, then Allah alone is our watchword", when I start the topic on emotions you will have ample mind space to dwell on the subject emotions Vs. Peace with references from the ayats. And this topic shall shower light on, by the Grace of Allah, how to have cure, and, protect from any disease by doing away with the emotions and opting for Peace.

Only one exercise you would do before you enter the thread is that you shall think over this rotfl This type of laugh is not possible at all without the sadistic mentality of gleefully looking down upon the short comings of others, or without the habit of mocking at one another, or by making a joker out of oneself thus belittling him. This is not the Straight path of Ibrahim.

I totally agree with the spirit of this.
But I don't think this emoticon in itself is portraying this kind of mocking attitude. That will depend on the context.
But yes, ridicule and mocking, in whatever form, should be chopped and discouraged. It is indeed poisonous.
                              Peace

Please don't be like ultraconservative "Muslims" like Salafists who only know to issue ridiculous fatwas such as banning music etc.

                                  Thank you.
