    Salam sisters and brothers

Moderators if I posted in the wrong place please move me!

I have a question regarding the hijab.

I heard over the years many arguments for wearing the hijab and one (or rather two) that keep popping up is

    1. "I feel safe when I am wearing the hijab"
"Safe" would mean no guys staring/flirting/being obsene

    2. "It gives me an identity as a muslim woman"

    Now, my question is

    1. If the men would actually follow the guidance of the Quran, would you still feel like you needed to be protected?

    2. If you live in a muslim country, then why do feel like you need to be identified as a muslim? Shouldnt the hijab only be worn in places where there is a necessity to show you are a muslim?

Nota Benne that I am not talking about interpretations of the "hijab" verses in the Quran, don't want to get into a translation argument here.

      1. Mankind is weak and not all men abide by the guidance of Quran i.e. not everyone is muslim and even men who are, not all are active muslims. I think from experience the headscarf draws away people uninterested in islam however it can attract muslim men.

      2. Identity as a muslim plays more than just telling people you're muslim. It helps people in their actions. e.g. I have a headscarf on, I am representing muslims I cannot do xyz, it's kinda like a preventative. Think of it as walking with a nicoratte patch (smoking patch) all day. it kinda stabilises your actions to prevent a bad image of islam.

Moreover I don't think it's about necessity of people knowing you're muslim or not but it's become such a social phenomena. It has huge social discourses. It's become a cultural practice and people are looked upon in bad ways if it isn't worn. So it's also about being accepted in the society they live in. People don't want to live in conflict.

      Just my thoughts

        1. Yes, but IF all men were to follow the Quranic guidance would there still be a need (if you are wearing the hijab for protection) to wear it?

        2. So you need a piece of clothing to remind you that you are muslim?

I am not challenging you dear sister, I am just trying to understand the reasoning.

In that case, if it is so good, why not make all the muslim men so conscious of their identity, wear their hijab. In fact historically, everywhere men have covered their heads. Now the supermuslims pretend that only women do that for this or that. Bullshit. If you believe in it, you don it, don't tell the women to don it. Muslims are not supposed to be Saint Paul followers that should keep their heads uncovered because they are the heads of the women.

Hijab, I am sorry, is a mockery.

i don't get it, Hijab is a mockery for you? what it mocked at? Muslim Woman? i live in a country where Many Muslimah cover their heads (hijab) WITHOUT ANY FORCE, you can see there are a rapid growth number of Hijabi Muslimah, even it became a TREND like fashion nowadays.

Let the Muslimah choose whatever they want whether to wear or not to wear hijab.

a Men wear hijab ? its like telling a men to wear Woman skirts and high heels

Whether Hjiab is obligatory or not is purely interpretation of the Quran. In my opinion, hijab is not obligatory. However, I have absolutely no problem with anyone wearing a hijab, in fact, my young sister (10 years) is wearing one.

However, I do not understand those people who are so wahabism-like type of people, who are so upressive against any woman who wears the hijab. Sometimes when I am (for example) with my sister outside I see people annoyed and iritated to see a any woman wearing a hijab like they seen an terrorist on the street. It's these kind of people I have a problem against.

There is no problem in women wearing the hijab, on the condition that they are not forced to.

                    My answers to your questions....

                    1. No. But living in a tiny village where I'm the only white revert, hijab is something that causes me to get stared/laughed at and tbh I feel less safe wearing it.
                    2. I know I'm a muslim and I'm proud of that fact but I do not live in a muslim country and many women living here wear hijab even if they are not muslim for cultural reasons. So to wear hijab to prove/ show I'm muslim wouldn't really show much at all.

What, don't Saudis wear hijab? I like them, they really look cool in it. And they also wear skirts and I suspect that the shorter ones also wear high heels, but the skirts cover them. Very nice.

Take good care of those hatreds, do not let them down, poor things. Nobody seems to like them these days.

You are welcome. That's only my view though and inshallah you'll get better ones from sisters who practice wearing hijab on a day to day basis (I only wear it going to jummah cos I don't think id be allowed to masjid without one) and someone who lives in a muslim country.

But what about Rania Al Abdullah, born in Kuwait to Palestinian parents, the current Queen consort of Jordan? I cannot recall her ever wearing a hijab or any kind of covering.

                                    1. most men don't follow the Quran. it is about control and obedience.

                                    2. hijab in muslim country is a symbol showing off that you are holy and pious. Identity is not that you are a muslim but you are a "good practicing" muslim. It is a status symbol.

                                      Right in both counts.

There was enough phariseism and double talk in islamic societies previous to hijab. Hijab has been the cherry on the cake of appearances and social compulsion as opposed to heartfelt sincerity in living as sincere muslims. Sincerity is superseded by clothes, and only women are concerned with the obligation of looking "muslim". Men are above all that. Hypocrisy on the throne.

Queen Rania is a muslim. And I guess she is earning paradise the hard way. Does not seem to be very easy for her. But may God reward her for whatever good she manages to do in spite of everything. I am no knowledgeable about that question, so I won't go beyond those best wishes.
