A few reasons why I questioned traditional Islam

Why isn't it crystal clear to the average Muslim, I wonder? To me, it's as plain as day.
The "imam" at our mosque on the last day of Ramadan in his begging appeal to God asks God to spare us from the wrath of Muhammed on the Day of Judgement. While hearing this I said to myself, I hope God shows this dude that Day how wrong he was! For God's sake, he is asking God to make sure we do good things so that Muahmmed is pleased with us (what about pleasing someone called umh....GOD?)
I am sick and tired of this idol worship that happens in our community and the sad part is that these "Quarn-alone" (or true believers) are like only 10% of the total Muslim population). Its pathetic to see this, but then every good thing that God sent was eventually made bad (except by the good, which were, are and will always be so few).

Thanks for the nice welcome back. Yes we got hit hard by one of the worst hurricanes in decades here and we're all trying to pick up the pieces. Alhamdulillah I was blessed by God thruout the storm and afterwards.

Yes Ansar, they had them in their pockets and never took them out to see what was inside. But they can tell you all about Bukhari! Too bad most Muslims I've come across show how Quranically illiterate they are, which just proves your sarcastic point.

Actually once I was at WalMart and saw Roy Jones Jr. I didn't say hey cause I didn't want to bother him. But he's a nice fellow. Also saw Emmitt Smith at teh same WalMart at a different night. lol it's celebrity night at Walmart.ops Sorry, getting off the subject here.

I started questioning traditional Islam once I'd converted and been Muslim for a few months. I could not understand why all of these Muslims where telling me these strange and superstitious things and telling me all of a sudden I couldn't do this or that. The reason I questioned it is because it all made me furious. One group told me that it wasn't proper that I lived alone! They said a male should be with me. Says who?
I heard so many lies and contradictions and then they started throwing me these ridiculous hadiths. I never, as hard as I tried to accept them, was able to accept any hadiths. I even prayed to God to please help me accept them so I could be a "proper" Muslim. I had men tell me that if I married them (LOL) that I had to quit my job and stay home with the kids! I told them what they could do with their backwards ideas.
I got hold of a book, Islam In Focus and began to read it so I could "learn how to pray properly." I started trying to speak this gibberish I did not understand. And I felt nothing when I prayed, except full on emptiness and confusion. I couldn't understand why this Islam was creating so much fitnah inside me.
After awhile, over a year and a half, I got to the point where I said, "This is absolutely ridiculous! These so called Muslims are calling me kafir and Jew because I'm refusing to believe what they are telling me."
The more I studied Quran, the more I realised I was being lied to and mislead to such an extent that I was shocked. These so called Muslims contradicted the Quran so much, I wondered just why they did it!
Finally, after some long soul searching, and through lots of tears of anger and frustration, I realised that the whole time, I'd been a hadith rejector and just needed to do Islam the way it felt good to me.
Finally, Islam does feel good to me. It now makes sense without all of the deepseated lies and cultural junk pushed out of the way. I found out that hey, I don't have to dress Arab to be Muslim! (No offense to any Arabs on this site.) I found out God isn't an Arab. And I found out that in my personal opinion, bowing down to a rock just isn't my thing. To me it's idol worship.
The best thing of all I learned was to trust in myself and what I believed and follow the Quran instead of listening to morons tell me lies about what has been fed to them over generations. Now I'm truly free. And, I love Islam.

I have been a born sunni. I do not believe sunnis are Muslims. They do insult everyone who are different. What they dont know is that they are not following Islam. I agree with you raindrop on every sentiment of yours as I was part of the people you have had bad experience of. I regret it, I am learning and I will change.
I have discovered who my god is. Ask Taj who his god is. And ansar. Please be a muslim and read the quran and stop saying things that you have only heard from some one. Let me ask you these guys who taught your religion. Was it the Quran or was it your parents, your ancestors maybe? then who is your god???
When we say we give testimony that there is no ilah but Allah (La ilaha illallah) we are only giving lip service. When the say the shahadah their are lying as if you really believe in the shahadah that you are saying you wont look elsewhere for religion.
We think that these simple things we do as listening to others for religious teachings other than the quran, idolizing things that take over our whole life. But Allah tells us differently.
Our children can be our ilah. Things that cannot create anything, things that are created. Creatures like us. Do they have legs, hands, eyes, ears?
Surah 7.

He created you from one person (Adam). Subsequently, He gives every man a mate to find tranquility with her. She then carries a light load that she can hardly notice. As the load gets heavier, they implore GOD their Lord "If you give us a good baby, we will be appreciative."

Is it not a fact that they are idolizing idols who create nothing, and are themselves created?

When you invite them to the guidance, they do not follow you. Thus, it is the same for them whether you invite them, or remain silent.

The idols you invoke besides GOD are creatures like you. Go ahead and call upon them; let them respond to you, if you are right.

Do they have legs on which they walk? Do they have hands with which they defend themselves? Do they have eyes with which they see? Do they have ears with which they hear? Say, "Call upon your idols, and ask them to smite me without delay.

Proclaim "If your parents, your children, your siblings, your spouses, your family, he money you have earned, a business you worry about, and the homes you cherish are more beloved to you than GOD and His messenger, and the striving in His cause, then just wait until GOD brings His judgment." GOD does not guide the wicked people.

Let me give you the place in the Quran where it defines what a muslim is and it is simple to understand that if you believe in other things than this then obviously you are not a muslim. You are not Al Muttaqun...

It is not Al-Birr (piety, righteousness) that you turn your faces towards east and (or) west (in prayers or for information); but Al-Birr is (the quality of) the one who believes in All?h, the Last Day, the Angels, the Book, the Prophets [] and gives his wealth, in spite of love for it, to the kinsfolk, to the orphans, and to Al-Mas?kin (the poor), and to the wayfarer, and to those who ask, and to set slaves free, performs As-Sal?t (Iq?mat-as-Sal?t), and gives the Zak?t, and who fulfill their covenant when they make it, and who are As-S?birin (the patient ones, etc.) in extreme poverty and ailment (disease) and at the time of fighting (during the battles). Such are the people of the truth and they are AlMuttaq?n 2177
Thus if you say Cover your head or face, Live with a mail, dont go to work, be a slave, grow your beard, wear a cap, Cut your nails in a certain way, piss in a certain way to be a muslim actually you are telling her or him to be different. Not to be a muslim. BTW Who is your god or Ilah. God himself or an author of a book or is it your parents. maybe it is your community. Hey have you ever thought that maybe your god is your own ego. Read Quran. It has every thing. If you say no, then you are disputing gods commandment.
GOD has revealed herein the best Hadith; a book that is consistent, and points out both ways (to Heaven and Hell). The skins of those who reverence their Lord cringe therefrom, then their skins and their hearts soften up for GOD's message. Such is GOD's guidance; He bestows it upon whoever wills (to be guided). As for those sent astray by GOD, nothing can guide them. (3923)
- On what basis can we trust anything that does not come from Allah? They say A Hadith is accepted only when its authenticity has been established on the basis of both Fann-i-Riwaayat and Fann-i-Daraayat. Any document that claims to be from God, but in actuality is not would contain some form of error according to the Quran

- Who gave us the authority to judge by anything other than Allah?s revelations? Well, we have been doing so for over a millennium. Who are we any way? God?

LET THE PEOPLE OF THE GOSPEL judge by that which Allah hath revealed therein. Whoso judgeth not by that which Allah hath revealed; such are evil livers. (547)
