We all have The Book at hand as Muslims. Are we not the people of The Book then?

My reference is 22 This is The Book Undoubtedly therein is guidance for those who fear. If you disagree with this ayat tell me why you disagree and how you disagree. What is your clear Quranic reference to disagree with this?

        Peace

          Peace,

People of the book = Those who had received the Message prior to Quran. The book (Al-kitab) refers rather to a Message than physical book. Also the Bible is not one book but many different books or in fact scrolls of parchment.

However, today we can say muslims are also people of the book. Muslims today are pretty alike the people of the book as described in Quran. For example, they have practically abandoned their scripture and choose only to follow parts of the Message.

Those who follow their conscience - people of the Book

i am also from people of the book.
Quran, as initial torah and injeel, are an extraction from the Ommou el kitab in possession of Allah.

Belief that muslims are not people of the book comes from hadiths hearsays and is, obviously, a kind of rejection of the book.

              Peace

Since all peoples have been sent prophets, in principle all peoples could be considered people of the book. I guess that what the Qur'an means goes along the lines of considering people of the book all those who base their beliefs on revelation transmitted by His prophets in the whole world thourghout the ages.

                Salaam

                  That one is clear transparency!

                            Peace.

I wish to share my understanding on People of the Book.
People = generally everyone who comes to know about God.
Book = a general/generic term to mean Book from God = the Quran and previous scriptures.

I think People of the Book is a general term to mean all people who have some knowledge about God, whereby they claimed the knowledge they have received are scriptures/book(s) from God, including Christians. When Allah from the Quran addresses People of the Book, it generally refers to all those people, also Allah addresses to specific subset of the People of the Book, in context.

Also, there are people who falls under People of the Book (Quran), but they are actually unlearn ones, who don't know the real message of the Book.

That is the Book, wherein is no doubt, a guidance to the godfearing (22)

Had We sent down upon you a book on paper, and they had touched it with their hands, those who disbelieve would have said, ?This is nothing but plain magic.? (67)

A Scripture was revealed to you, so let there be no anxiety in your heart because of it. You are to warn with it?and a reminder for the believers. (72)

Follow what is revealed to you from your Lord, and do not follow other masters beside Him. Little you recollect. (73)

And among them are unlearned ones (ummiyyuna) do not know the Book, and they only guess/speculate (27
