    Salaam.

Sorry I am too late for this.

    welcome
    to this forum.

Don't be shy to start a new discussion or ask a question. This is free-minds. Not sunniforum.

I'm pretty sure you know Ustaz Azhar Idruz since you are from Malaysia.
    http//thestar.com.my/news/story.asp?sec=nation&file=/2013/5/28/nation/13165745

So he's a poligamist? Is he just like typical hadithers?

    Sorry for asking this.

And I was just like you when I was a Sunni but the difference is I was a non-practising Sunni. I started questioning about my faith when I was 15.

    May God bless you.

      Salaam diamantinehoneybunch,

Thanks for the welcome, its never too late. I'll post if theres anything that I would like to raise or take up any issues.

Yes, Azhar Idrus is a very popular sunni ustaz whose public appearances/seminars have so far been very well attended. He has three wives currently and thats common among the ustazes in Malaysia, its kind of prestigious among the sunnis since to them you are following the prophet's sunnah very closely.

He is a staunch hadither and if during his lecture you crossed him questioning any of the hadith, you are in for a public humiliation - not only from him but also from his fanatical followers in the audience. Perhaps, one reason for his popularity is his ability to make his audience laugh, sometimes uproariously with some seemingly innocent remarks. You can watch and listen to him in numerous youtube clips (just type "azhar idrus&quot, but he speaks in Malay, so you might not understand what he says, except the Quranic passages/ahadith he quotes in arabic.

      Hope that answer your question.

      Peace.

Not only Uztad Idrus, but also many ulemas in Muslim majority country in Asia or Africa.

I live in Muslim majority country like akhi Malayaman, and I ever became of eye witnesses of polygamy and even child marriage (my neighboor proposed to be married in age 15 and she is a girl).

Maaf, ini pertama kali saya mengetahui tentang pertubuhan ini. Terima kasih kerana memberitahu. Insha Allah saya akan cari maklumat selanjutnya, jika masih ada.

Bagaimana, antum sudah tahu belum mengenai pertubuhan itu?

            Salam,

            Greetings from Gunung Soga.

Welcome to the forum. Glad to learn that more and more people from Malaysia are reverting to the Q (Qur-an). I have been here for many years, but my posts are comparatively (with those regustered at the same time or perhaps even later) quite few.

Like most of you from Malaysia, many many years ago I was just another parrot - reciting the verses of the Q without understanding the true meaning. Terror dalam bab menghafal, hehehe...

But today I am going to post an interesting (at least to me, hehehe...) story. On Wednesday two weeks ago, a very close friend from Segamat came over together with 5 of his friends. After dinner at a warung/food stall (we had sup kambing/mutton soup Malay style) we returned to my house to spend the night exchanging experiences and comprehensions (understandings based on experiences).

One of them (the second or third time that I have met) spoke of his questions when he was young, i.e. early teens. According to him, he used to ask God about almost all things - from events in his family or those that happen to his friends.

While in college, he bought himself a Malay translation of the Q. He could recite the Arabic, but he had this opinion that since he couldn't understand Arabic, he decided to confine himself to reading the Q in the language that he understood, i.e. the Malay translation.

So there was I listening to him, while recalling the fact that most (not all, okay) people in Free-minds will readily turn into sceptics in as far as a translation made by a Sunni is concerned. And this friend spoke nonchalantly about his questions to God. Among others he asked God about the relevance of making that metaphor on a lamp in a house (2435). "Am I really that stupid, God, that I cannot understand the relevance of this verse, here?" he said.

And so according to him, some months later it dawned upon him that this verse was about the secrets of man, physically and metaphysically. He related on the self (nafs) and 'roohu Allah' within man.

He said that the word 'allah' or 'god' is merely a status. "So too are 'jibreel' and 'meekala'," he said. To illustrate this he took an example of a man who works as an accountant in a firm. In the office, he is the accountant, but at home he is the husband (to the wife), the father (to the kids) and the master (to the house servant). To the wife and kids he is also the breadwinner, or by everyone who knows him will say that he is indeed a responsible person. So that one man might be called differently by different people or called similarly by the same different people.

This friend's questions to God reminded me of the questions posed by Ibraheem and Moosa. Past prophets do not have a compiled Q like what we now have, so they depended solely on God for guidance. In the Q, we read all those questions, no matter how blunt or hard they were.

I was at ease while listening to this friend. In fact I could say that I was happy listening to him. I was happy because he treated himself as the idiot (albalad), and this reminded me of how Ibraheem called himself when speaking with God. He has emptied the cup indeed, methinks. And of course I was happy that he asked God about the things that baffled him, or in his effort to understand the Q without even knowing the Arabic language. To me he is a living proof of that verse in the Q which implied that God will provide us with His guidance in the language that we are very familiar with.

In fact for some years now I have adopted the opinion that as long as a person refers to God about anything and everything, God will surely guides that person. God will never take that person's faith for granted. Even without that person studying the Q, let alone understands Arabic. So even an illiterate in the North Pole could always ask God, anytime, anywhere, anyhow. God is with us wherever we are.

And the Q that we study was the guide for Muhammad the prophet. It was his guide to becoming into a true servant of God that befits the status of God's 'khalifa' (proxy) in this earthly life. It should be the easier option if we were to study, understand and adhere to the Q. Still we must refer to God for the correct meaning as meant by God. And still we have to empty the cup to rid all types of baggage.

As I have mentioned elsewhere, never ever leave God out of our life equation. Then only will God be the Lord of our comprehension (rabbi al3alameen), the reference, the teacher, the knowledgable, the just, the wise, the compassionate, the understanding, the master at the time of accountability, the supporter, the friend, etc.

            Cheers!
            mohammed noh

              Salam,

In addition, the way of the peacemakers dictates that (among others, I trust)

              • we attain and maintain the peacefulness/calmness in our hearts

              • we must be without prejudice, by continually "emptying the cup"

              • we always think positively or always have good thoughts

              • we do not talk about things that we do not fully know/understand

              Cheers!

                Salaam pak Earthdom,

I found this link http//members.tripod.com/ahkam_2/FIRQAH/gah.html, which mentions that the attempt to form Jemaah al-Quran Malaysia (JAM) by brother Kassim Ahmad failed when approval was not granted by the government. Not sure when was this. This is to be expected in a sunni majority country where most levers of power are in their hands. From the article it seems that the government declared the anti-hadithers (Quranists?) murtad! It could get worse as wahabbis are sneaking into the system......perhaps just a few now, but in the future? More are standing by on the sidelines, as anti government activists.......waiting for the right time? Still kita istiqomah.

Moga semua kita sentiasa dirahmati Allah.

Thank you abang Noh (I have seen posts where brother abdalquran addressed you this way - so I'll do that too, hope you won't mind) for your welcome greetings. Your posts including previous ones were inspiring and served as guidance for me wading thru this - as far as I am concerned - uncharted waters. Alhamdulillah!

Hope we can meet sometimes in the future.

Best and may God bless you.

                    Salam,

So you are familiar with brother abdalquran @farouk.

Btw, I was in a few FB groups thanks to him, but since late last year I have deactivated my FB account. I suppose FM is the only forum that I am still active, though quite rarely.

Jika nak berjumpa di kawasan Batu Pahat, Johor, sila kirim mesej peribadi. Tapi, seperti yang sudah dinyatakan di atas, saya jarang ke forum ini, jadi minta maaf kalau terlambat membacanya.

                    Cheers!

So this is Mr Kassim Ahmad's former organization.Yeah I know it's very hard to create such Quranist organization in Malaysia cause the constitution is Islam.
My country's ideology is not Islam, but often sectarian conflict occured in here, plus it's not to easy to create an Quranist organization because Sunni have more autharity both in laws and the government.

Selamat bergabung Malayaman.
