Just wanted to introduce myself ) I'm from California and have a Catholic background. I have worked for churches for a long time and was happy, but I do remember as a child wondering why in the Old Testament it was all about ONE God and then everything changed so much in the New Testament. In the past year I had met some Muslims and I wanted to understand what they think/believe etc, so I picked up a Quran, and wow. For me it was the voice of God that I heard throughout the Old Testament, and so many things clicked and made sense to me that I became MORE curious. As I continued my reading, I read and found out about all the schools of thought and interpretation and was very surprised to learn that Islam was having the same problems faced by Christianity after Luther and until now. I read a few interesting books about Biblical scholars explaining how we don't have original Biblical scripture anymore, and how it was modified and changed through the centuries from constant copying etc. Then after all the claims on sites about Islam I find out that the hadith, chain of transmission and how rulers would order up hadith to suit their purposes, etc. Then finally I stumbled upon some Quran only and Quranist sites and thought now this makes the most sense of all. Anyway here I am still very early in my studies and trying to make sense of it all.
Would love any suggested reading material and would love someone to talk to about all this!Salaam!

Welcome to the forum. I hope you will enjoy your stay. I suppose you had the same feeling as I had when I opened the Quran for the first time in 2009. Before that I was calling myself Christian. I have always denounced the trinity and when I discovered the idolatry in islam was as bad as Christianity I aimed for the Quran alone movement in which there is much less idolatry.

welcome to this forum.I never became a Christian before, but I already reading some part of Old and New Testament.I'm not mastering Christian teology, but I knew if Trinitian teology is very misslead after hearing it from some Protestant priest who already convert to Islam.

I like Ubuntu linux. You can download the live CD and run it without installing from the CD to give it a try. It generally works right out of the install, no more tweaking drivers. Some people didn't like having the status bar on the side but I got used to it. Give it a try! Ubuntu is debian, and then I've used RedHat in the past as well.

I can't resist my curiosity of what "Ubuntu" mean, as it turns out it means
"the belief in a universal bond of sharing that connects all humanity"Thus I install it right away and it works quite well on my brand new ultrabook )

Yes that's what drew me to it as well, plus it has lots of support and forums if you ever run into issues with it. It is so nice to live without Windows Plus it makes older machines seem to run faster, since it is less bloated than Windows. So good for you and I hope you enjoy it!

I used to run Ubuntu and a few other distributions, but the constant compiling and working on making games run under Linux made my prioritize Windows sadly. However, these days that I do not play much I should consider returning to Linux.
I know I could multiboot, but I tend to be a bit preselective.
However, Linux today has become easier than when I used I several years ago, and installers are more widely available. There is less code hammering now and manual configuration of drivers. In the past Linux was mainly for geeks (if they wanted to use Linux for more than default use), but now it is probably better (easier). I was a geek ten years ago so of course I used Linux even with this code configuration and UNIX terminal commands you needed to know. And with too much tampering with the system and you could make it impossible to boot 0_0
I know that I am actually running a mobile version of Linux on my cell phone though (Android). It is a so customizable phone if you gain access to the root (SU privileges for the win).

ooh I want to root my tablet and put linux on it. They were having trouble with the gyro thingees and so i never have tried. How does your phone run with linux? At least Android is a flavor of Linux. I agree, it used to be much more difficult to tweak drivers and get things up and running but now Linux is really competitive with Windows, at least for normal users. I'm sure with gaming it still leans toward Windows as a platform. I do love the free software though, and just today installed a free computer-assisted translator and need to learn how to use it so I can accept translation work (IT to EN).
Sometimes I miss manually configuring things because it was such a challenge and felt so good when I got it up and running.

No. I did not mean Linux differently from Android. I have an Android phone. But it is pretty much Linux as it is built on the same structure, ie Unix. Probably heavily modified Linux code adapted for mobile use. I simply meant that I unlocked the root of the file system of the phone's operating system to be able to make changes to the things they hide from people. So then I have SU access.
It is getting easier nowadays to run games on Linux as game developers start to add support for their games by easy to use auto-compilers, installers. It is often just a compiled executable required and the game starts.
And hardware manufacturers have started to respond to the cries for driver support in Linux so you can nowadays find up-to-date ones, especially graphics card drivers which are important for gaming. And with good drivers the system performance is often better in Linux than Windows.

yes system performance is better. I want to root my phone too, because there are apps there I cannot uninstall. I don't like being forced to have something on my phone I don't want! Was it hard to do?

It is not particularly hard, but it is important to be careful and know what you are doing because you can potentially brick your device. It involves flashing of ROM memory. Different devices have different ways so you have to check for your manufacturer/model on Google. If you flash wrong information in the device's ROM you can make further interaction with it impossible, leaving your dear gadget useless and broken.
Tampering with the ROM obviously voids any guarantee you might have.
Apart from that it is safe to do it but just be careful to check before you hit enter several times. Model number is of utmost importance, not a number should be wrong or revision of the device for example. Do research about it so you know the specifics in detail first.
I think there might be devices prevented from being rooted. It is often hackers developing these tools so your device might not be supported.
