when is "al hajj" - possible answer?
-
peace all,
I am currently writing an article on "al hajj". One aspect I would like some feedback on is the "when" question.
Most agree "al hajj" takes place during the months well known, 2197.
These months are considered to be the four restricted months.
"al hajj" is timed using the crescent/new moons, 2189.
So, one possible question is "when" during these months? For this, I found 91-5 interesting, highlighted
- An acquittal/release from The God and His messenger to those with whom you made a treaty from among the polytheists.
- Therefore, roam the earth for four months and know that you will not escape The God, and that The God will disgrace the ungrateful/rejecters.
- And an announcement from The God and His messenger to the people on the greatest day of the hajj / day of the greatest hajj*** "The God is quit/free from the polytheists and so is His messenger". If you repent, then it is better for you, and if you turn away, then know that you will not escape The God. And give news to those who conceal/reject of a painful retribution.
- Except for those with whom you had a treaty from among the polytheists if they did not reduce anything from it nor did they plan to attack you; you shall continue the treaty with them until its expiry. Truly, The God loves the forethoughtful/conscientious.
- So when the restricted months (Arabic plural 3 or more) are passed, then you may fight the polytheists wherever you find them, and take them, and surround them, and stand against them at every point. If they repent, and uphold/maintain the salat and bring forth the betterment, then clear/vacate their way/path. Truly, The God is Turning/Forgiving, Embracing/Merciful.
***apparently, according to the grammar it can mean either.
Giving us
4 months as grace period i.e. the 4 restricted months
announcement on day of greatest hajj or greatest day of the hajj
when 3 or more restricted months are passed then one may fight them...Thus, has "al hajj" taken place in the first restricted shahr? It seems so.
Thoughts?

Peace brother Wakas.
I am looking forward to your article.

The greatest day of it has taken place then, but this doesn't mean hajj doesn't take place in the rest of the restricted period. Please take into your considerations that shahr may also mean full moon. This understanding leads to the follwowing schedule
1st full moon-->the greatest day of the hajj / day of the greatest hajj
...1 month...
2nd full moon
...1 month...
3rd full moon
...1 month...
4th full moon-->end of the restricted periodThis makes a total period of 3 restricted month.

peace all,
I am currently writing an article on "al hajj". One aspect I would like some feedback on is the "when" question...
According to The Qur?aan, months of performing Hajj pilgrimage are the FOUR CONSECUTIVE sacred months of the Islamic lunar calendar-year. They start with the 12th, followed by the 1st, the 2nd, and the 3rd month.

peace all,
Timur,
I agree that this is a possibility, you said "The greatest day of it has taken place then, but this doesn't mean hajj doesn't take place in the rest of the restricted period. ".Of course, we will have to ponder over the possible meaning/significance of
- the greatest day of the hajj
- day of the greatest hajj
Khalil,
Evidence from Quran please. -
Khalil,
Evidence from Quran please.1st 92 reveals the four consecutive sacred months.
2nd 93 reveals the start of Hajj pilgrimage. Hajj pilgrimage historically starts from the first day of the 12th month of the Islamic lunar calendar-year. This month is named "ZILHIJJAH" accordingly.
3rd Logically, the next three remaining sacred months must be the 1st, the 2nd, and the 3rd months of the new year.
Peace,

This would fall in line with Aymen's theory on Shahr/fullmoon Ramamdan being 10 days, then 2189 speaks of the new moons/l-ahilati as indicators of periods/mawqtu for the greatest day of the hajj / day of the greatest hajj.
