Name of God

Hi and Peace/Salam
I cant really figure out what the name of God is.
And its quite needed as 6.121 says And do not eat from that which the name of God has not been mentioned,
Its said that God/Allah has 99 names, so should it be one of these names. Or isn?t those more like titles.
Some would say that Gods name is Allah, but my point of wiev is that this is the arabic word for God. Since it was exciting as a word to decribe the gods they belived in, evenbefore Gabriel appered to Muhammed. (llah = a god, Allah = The God)
And Allah is also synomim to the hebrew El. or the aramaic Eloh.I think the meaning of God meens good..
I just been wandering for some while, and all I so far got, is something from Wikipedia

So, I just want to hear how you people pray befor eating, and why?

And God spoke to Moses and said to him, I am the Lord (Hebrew Yahweh) and I appeared to Abraham, to Isaac and to Jacob as God Almighty (Hebrew 'El Shaddai' but I was not known to them by my name 'Yahweh'.
Therefore, Prophet Abraham, Isaac and Jacob (pbut) knew God as 'El' and not as 'Yahweh' or 'Allah' as the Arabs would come to know of Him. God used the word 'Allah' in the Quran because God is primarily addressing the Arab audience and therefore has conveyed the message in Arabic language. The previous scriptures were not in Arabic and nor did the previous messengers spoke Arabic.
Even before Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) started to receive revelations from God, the Arab Christians and Jews used to use the word 'Allah' as it is still used by them today
They say "Allah has begotten a son" Glory be to Him. Nay, to Him belongs all that is in the heavens and on earth everything renders worship to Him (2116)
(Both) the Jews and the Christians say "We are sons of Allah, and his beloved." Say "Why then does He punish you for your sins? Nay, ye are but men, of the men he has created He forgives whom He pleases, and He punishes whom He pleases and to Allah belongs the dominion of the heavens and the earth, and all that is between and to Him is the final goal (of all) (51
Many Muslims may argue that the Christians and Jews used the true name of God because they had the previous scriptures with them. But this claim can be easily refuted by using the Quran as it makes it clear that even the Arab idolaters (Mushrikeen) called their 'high' God, 'Allah'
If indeed you ask them who has created the Heavens and the Earth and subjected the Sun and the Moon (to his Law), they will certainly reply, "Allah". How are they then deluded away (from the truth)? (2961)
If indeed you ask them who is it that created the Heavens and the Earth, they would be sure to say, "Allah". Say "Then do you see what you invoke besides Allah? Can they, if Allah wills some penalty for me, remove His penalty? Or if He wills some grace for me, can they keep back his grace?" Say "Sufficient is Allah for me! In Him do the trusting put their trust" (393
Therefore, 'Allah' is just the Arabic of 'God', and God in His tremendous majesty simply cannot be restricted to any name or any number of names
Say "Call upon Allah, or call upon Rahman by whatever name ye call upon Him, (it is well) for to Him belong the most beautiful names. Neither speak thy Prayer aloud, nor speak it in a low tone, but seek a middle course between." (17110)
The most beautiful names belong to God so call on him by them; but shun such men as use profanity in his names for what they do, they will soon be requited (7180)
Also please note that most of the Quranic prayers use the generic title 'Rabbana' (Our Lord) as opposed to 'Allah'.

I?m not sure that the you can find the excact name of God in the Bible. The Jewish wouldn?t pronounce or write it. So they wrote YHWH or said "The Lord".
And some will say the real name is Yahoo, so its like its not quite sure, what the real name is..I agre with you on the permice that Allah has the meaning The God, like I also wrote before.
Just I dont know if you are right when you say that Allah in Quran also refering to others God. I have always read it "like the true God". But they were not serving him correct. As we read in 6136They even set aside a share of GOD's provisions of crops and livestock, saying, "This share belongs to GOD," according to their claims, "and this share belongs to our idolsSo thats how I read it, but you could be right. So quite interesting. Because the way you read it make more sence.. Why should they be called someone deluded from the faith.
So maybe the answer is found in 7180. But do you mean that we should call on him by his titles then. Cause maybe we should?t mention Gods name at all. Like the Jewish belive.

The Arab Jews and Christians say = Allah
The Arab idolaters (Mushrikeen) say = Allah
The Muslims/Believers say = Allah
According to (7180 and 17110), we have been given the authority by God to call Him either 'Allah/God' or by any of the most beautiful names which befits His magesty/greatness (for e.g. Ar-Rahman, Ar-Rahim etc).
Therefore, from my understanding, before you eat, you should prounce the name of God on your food by simply uttering the words "In the name of God/Allah", and then if you want to say more things then you surely may as it is totally up to you. You may also say another name/attribute of God instead of 'Allah/God', but in this specific situation, which is the moment before eating, I think it is more fitting if you say 'Allah/God'.
And please note that the concept of 99 names of Allah is from ahadith and not from the Quran.

I read the thread, but maybe it made me more confused.
But anyway I liked your conclusions and the ressonoment leading there.But what I noticed was
5924 He is God; the Creator, the Initiator, the Designer. To Him belong the most beautiful names. Glorifying Him is everything in the heavens and the earth. He is the Noble, the Wise.
He is Allah, WHO? "AlKhaliq", "AlBaari", "AlMusawwir", what are these words? These are the names of Allah, for HIM belongs the most beautiful names that no one else has.
So do you say that these are the names we should say before eating, and only these?
But you could also read this line as this are his titles/attributes and not names. Or do you mean they could be the same?
Also Allah/God can be seen as an attribute. An attribute only for Him.
But then you can not take this (Allah/God) out from the list you mentioned..
And we know very well as you also pointed out that God/Allah isn?t God?s name.
So sorry to say. Now I?m really confused.
But don?t take me wrong. I am very glad that you enlight this topic. We know very well that its quite needed to know Gods name.

Asmaa al houssan doesn't translate , beautiful name, but beautifull nominations , allah is called upon and not called like we do
So it could be something with we cant call God a name but call upon him instead.
I can?t figure out if this can solve the problem with the name. ???
