Don't forget to elaborate a bit as to why you chose your answer.

      Salam hicham

or literally means straight, the truth, but in adjective it can also means orthodox, faithful.

So the usage of hanif depend on it context. Now in what context of hanif do you mean, brethern?
Some people give their child with name "hanifa".The meaning and the purpose of that means if "that child is a devout one".

      Peace

Peace be unto you as well Earthdom ^_^

I sincerely thank you for your assist, you're such a thoughtful/cooperative brother (unlike some meanies around here)! I appreciate the information you have provided me with, nevertheless, I believe I'm aware of the (double-edged) meaning of the word aniph in the Quran, and its semitic root -n-ph in Arabic ( &#1601, Aramaic ( &#1830, and Hebrew ( &#1507... I'm just curious as to how the members (here) understand the term - as it denotes directly and specifically one of the fundamental characteristics of (Quranic) Islam. Seems like no one gives a damn ) ... (save you, of course).

          Peace,

I have seen this thread yesterday but I delayed to post my thought on here. (

As far as I know, Hanif refers to a pure monotheist who follows creed of Abraham. I think we can call ourselves Hunafa (plural of Hanif) too ) . But sorry if I'm wrong. A hanif rejects idolatry.

2135 And they said ?Be Jewish or Nazarenes so that you may be guided!? Say ?No, rather the creed of Abraham, the Hanif; for he was not of the polytheists?

I reject the Traditional Islamic definition, which defines that Hanif refers to a monotheist before Islam .

          Just my $0.02

          Regards,
          Yuliana
