and i would like to mention a Hadith from the Prophet (peace be upon him) about those who don't follow the Sunnah

    Sunnan Abi-Dawud Book 40, Number 4587
    Narrated Al-Miqdam ibn Ma'dikarib

The Prophet (peace_be_upon_him) said Beware! I have been given the Qur'an and something like it, yet the time is coming when a man replete on his couch will say Keep to the Qur'an; what you find in it to be permissible treat as permissible, and what you find in it to be prohibited treat as prohibited. Beware! The domestic ass, beasts of prey with fangs, a find belonging to confederate, unless its owner does not want it, are not permissible to you If anyone comes to some people, they must entertain him, but if they do not, he has a right to mulct them to an amount equivalent to his entertainment.

      welcome

we know that the prophet (peace be upon him) doesn't speak from his own

{1. By the star when it descends,
      2. Your companion has not strayed, nor has he erred,
      3. Nor does he speak from inclination.
      4. It is not but a revelation revealed,} 531-4

I think the ayat does not mean what you want it to mean.

          It means something else.

It is a logical fallacy to say that a group with the largest number is the true one because it is argumentum ad populum.

Sunnism did not exist at earlier times. Go learn some history. The four classical Sunni Imams? Shafi'i (who preaches sexism), Abu Hanifa, Malik, Hanbal were born much later after Mohammed's death. Bukhari, Muslim, Tirmidhi, Abu Dawud, Ibn Majah, Nasai etc came centuries after Mohammed's death to collect the so-called hadiths of Mohammed that are not really from Mohammed. Many hadiths contradict Qur'an and even contradict other hadiths.

If you are an open-minded person, please search and browse topics on this forums and articles on this site about hadiths.

One of the biggest contradictions between hadiths and Qur'an is intercession. Hadiths say some group of 'Muslims' will get intercession from Mohammed but Qur'an denies intercession from any person.

Follow Sunna? According to some hadiths, Mohammed married Aisha when she was 6 and touched her when she was 9. Are you going to marry a kiddie too? I hope not.

Most of people here reject hadiths not because we want to disobey Mohammed, but we just don't believe that the hadiths are from Mohammed.

              This is the actual context...

By the star when it descends
              Your companion
              has not strayed
              nor has he erred,
Nor does he speak from inclination <- your authority for allowing hadith
It is not but a revelation revealed
Taught to him by one intense in strength
              One of soundness
And he rose to true form
While he was in the higher horizon
Then he approached and descended <- gabriel
And was at a distance of two bow lengths or nearer
And he revealed to His Servant what he revealed.
The heart did not lie what it saw.
So will you dispute with him over what he saw? <- actual story
And he certainly saw him in another descent
              (531-13)

The word "revelation" is limited to the context of "what he saw", during the revelation.... ie. referring to specific facts and relating to some part of the Quran.

Therefore, the words have been twisted for thousand of years?

                    Greetings and Peace, all group

@Abdullatif In following the Guidance in the Qur'an, one is also following true Sunnah (619 and 1015).

2170 And if they are told "Follow what GOD has sent down," they say "No, we will follow what we found our fathers doing!" What if their fathers did not comprehend anything and were not guided?

5104 And if they are told "Come to what GOD has sent down, and to the messenger;" they say "We are content with what we found our fathers doing." What if their fathers did not know anything nor were guided?

619 Say "Which is the greatest testimony?" Say "GOD is witness between me and you, and He has inspired to me this Qur'an that I may warn you with it and whoever it reaches, that you are bearing witness that with GOD are other gods!" Say "I do not bear witness!" Say "He is only One god, and I am innocent of what you have set up!"

6114 "Shall I seek other than GOD as a judge when He has sent down to you the Book fully detailed?" Those to whom We have given the Book know it is sent down from your Lord with the truth; so do not be of those who have doubt.

6115 And the word of your Lord has been completed with truth and justice; there is no changing His words. He is the Hearer, the Knower.

6116 And if you obey most of those on the earth they will lead you away from the path of GOD; that is because they follow conjecture, and that is because they only guess.

752 And We have come to them with a Book which We have detailed with knowledge; a guidance and a mercy to those who believe.

7185 Have they not looked at the dominion of the heavens and the earth, and all that God has created? Perhaps their time is drawing near; so in which narrative after this one will they believe?

1015 And when Our clear revelations were recited to them, those who do not wish to meet Us said "Bring a Qur'an other than this, or change it!" Say "It is not for me to change it of my own accord, I merely follow what is inspired to me. I fear, if I disobeyed my Lord, the retribution of a great Day!"

2530 And the messenger said "My Lord, my people have deserted this Qur'an."

2951 Is it not enough for them that We have sent down to you the Book that is being recited to them? In that is a mercy and a reminder for people who believe.

3121 And if they are told "Follow that which GOD has sent down." They say "No, we will follow what we found our fathers doing." What if the devil had been leading them to the agony of Hell?

413 A Book whose revelations are detailed, an Arabic Qur'an for a people who know.

456 These are the revelations of GOD, We recite them to you with the truth. So, in which narrative after GOD and His revelations do they believe?

6836 What is wrong with you, how do you judge?
6837 Or do you have a book which you study?
6838 In it, you can find what you wish?

Extra-Quranic hadith is not allowed to mix with the Deen for believers (7185 and 456). The Qur'an is fully detailed, explained in detail, and enough for a believer (6114, 6115, 752, 2951, 413). Following popularity or what is done in the past is disallowed (2170, 5104, 6116, 3121).

Further, we are not to distinguish between any Prophets or Messengers (Peace upon all Prophets and Messengers). By following the Deen, we automatically follow the example of all of the Prophets.

2136 Say "We believe in GOD and in what was sent down to us and what was sent down to Abraham, and Ishmael, and Isaac, and Jacob, and the Patriarchs, and what was given to Moses and Jesus, and what was given to the prophets from their Lord; we do not make a distinction between any of them and to Him we submit."

2285 The messenger believes in what was sent down to him from his Lord; and the believers, all who believe in GOD, and His angels, and His Books, and His messengers "We do not make a distinction between any of His messengers;" and they said "We hear and obey, forgive us our Lord, and to you is our destiny."

384 Say "We believe in GOD and what was sent down to us and what was sent down to Abraham and Ishmael and Isaac and Jacob and the Patriarchs, and what was given to Moses and Jesus and the prophets from their Lord. We do not make a distinction between any of them, and to Him we submit."

4152 And those who believe in God and His messengers and do not make a distinction between any of them, We will give them their recompense. And God is Forgiving, Merciful.

A few more words for thought

1736 And do not uphold what you have no knowledge of. For the hearing, eyesight, and heart, all these you are responsible for.

3918 The ones who listen to what is being said, and then follow the best of it. These are the ones whom GOD has guided, and these are the ones who possess intelligence.

                    ALLAH knows best.

                    peace

                    ~Abdul-Hadi

It sounds stupid and apologetic to say "bad hadiths of Bukhari & Co are not from Mohammed because they are bad but good hadiths of Bukhari & Co are from Mohammed because they are good".

By rejecting hadiths, I meant reject the teachings as compulsory-to-follow in Faith.

                          Brother Abdullatif Muslim

There are so many places in the Quran explaining muslims and momins. An example is Surat-ul-muminoon

                          (&#65279 (&#65279 (&#65279 (&#65279 (&#65279 (&#65279 (&#65279 (&#65279 (&#65279 (&#65279

Successful indeed are the believers (1) Who are humble in their prayers, (2) And who shun vain conversation, (3) And who are payers of the poor-due; (4) And who guard their modesty - (5) Save from their wives or the (slaves) that their right hands possess, for then they are not blameworthy, (6) But whoso craveth beyond that, such are transgressors - (7) And who are keepers of their pledge and their covenant, ( And who pay heed to their prayers. (9) These are the heirs (10) Who will inherit paradise. There they will abide. (11)

Brother my question was why one should call himself SUNNI instead of a muslim. Yes, following the Prophet is required but do you think prophet followed something other than the Quran. Did he judged between people according to the Quran or not?

The prophet in no more among us so how we follow him now? By following the message that was revealed to him and which is preserved in the mushaf called Al-Quran OR by following the stories related to him centuries after he left this world which are sometimes in contradiction to the Quran and sometimes self contradictory. If these stories do not contradict the Quran then yes there is no problem with accepting them.

Brother you are responsible for your actions and I am for mine. There is no compulsion in the deen. I believe as long as one is acting within the boundaries set in the Quran by Allah SWT he/she is doing fine and may expect blessing and forgiveness from the creator. When we start following our past generations leaving the Quran I think we are in trouble. Remember the reply GIVEN by the Prophet on the day of judgment as informed in surat-ul-furqan

                          (&#65279 (&#65279
                          (&#65279

Alas for me! Ah, would that I had never taken such an one for friend! (2 He verily led me astray from the Reminder after it had reached me. Satan was ever man's deserter in the hour of need. (29) And the messenger saith O my Lord! Lo! mine own folk make this Qur'an of no account. (30)

The prophet said Al-Quran not al-hadeeth because he left us with Al-Quran not man made stories.

May Allah SWT bless us with the Quranic understanding and save us from following the elders if they knew nothing or were not guided.

                          Peace

Hadith whether it is good or bad can never be accepted as the Prophet Muhammad's saying because it is simply not his saying. The actual missing narrators from the sanads are Bukhari & Co. It is clearly their stories and not the Prophet or Companions. They are the actual narrators of these stories. Their stories, and their books. However and from the non-sectarian perspective, there are only two issues, ie. whether it is just or unjust, regardless of whether it is from the Hadiths or Hinduism Scriptures, Buddhism Scriptures, Christianity, Judaism, Atheism, Code 19, Motivational or Science Books etc. If it is just, then it is Islam, else it is not Islam. This is so since Islam is about just and balance and does not oppose justice. Therefore if they wish to fix certain labels and willing to die and go for war for that labels, ie. the difference between apple and pomme or sugar and sucre in french confused ..... then let them fix those labels since they are sectarians and religious peoples. No big deal, as long it is just and balance to humanity. Otherwise, we are also no difference to them and practising the religion of faulty generalization.

Therefore, the proportion Q of the population has attribute A.

                              Salaam all.

Please be careful with 'good' hadiths.

After I left the hadith, I began to realize that even hadiths which look good/wise/noble in fact may contain deceiving factors.

Imho, those who made hadiths are very sly.

I'm aware of this if I use the Qur'an as reference to evaluate hadiths. However, I don't know how to explain this so others can understand. It's pretty hard to explain and I'm not good at it.

Please forgive my shortcomings. This post intended to remind others to be careful also on hadiths which look good.

The safest guidance only what really come from The Creator. Glory be to Him.

                              Salaam.
