    Greetings and Peace, all group

Provided that there were no other possible objections to the food, would you eat food that has been previously prayed over "in Jesus' name?"

If it is the food provided but one is not starving or forced, what are the individual views on this matter?

53 Forbidden to you is that which is already dead, and the blood, and the meat of pig, and what was dedicated to other than GOD, and that which has been strangled, and that which has been beaten to death, and that which has fallen from a height, and that which has been gored, and that which the wild animals have eaten from except what you managed to rescue, and what has been slaughtered on altars, and what you divide by the arrows of chance. This is vile. Today the rejecters have given up from your system, so do not be concerned by them, but be concerned by Me. Today I have perfected your system for you, and completed My blessings upon you, and I have approved submission as the system for you. So, whoever is forced by severe hunger and not seeking sin, then GOD is Forgiving, Merciful.

6145 Say "I do not find in what is inspired to me to be unlawful for any eater to eat except that it be already dead, or running blood, or the meat of pig - for it is foul - or what is a wickedness, dedicated to other than GOD." But whoever is forced to, without seeking disobedience or transgression, then your Lord is Forgiving, Merciful.

Although I do not try to make a spectacle of my beliefs, I chose not to eat the food provided (my attendance was mandatory) when this happened to me. This was my understanding of the matter--what's yours?

    ALLAH knows best.

    peace

Sure I would. Most of my family are Christian and at large meals like Thanksgiving my aunt or uncle would say blessing and they were trained to finish every prayer with "in Jesus' name" as if it's the secret password Allah is waiting for to bless lol. it doesn't bother me and I don't see any spiritual benefit of making a scene and refusing to eat or drink anything from the table. Besides they do address God in the blessing and we have the same God. They just seem to add Jesus name at the end because that's what their pastors say. I could be wrong though.

        Peace,

Tricky situation. Fortunately I have not been through that yet, but it is difficult for someone who has some friends who are Christians and do like that. Those Christians I have spent time with do not bless the food in Jesus' name but say the Father in Heaven prayer before eating which I deem okay.

Another difficult situation I ran into was when my niece was going to be baptized since I know they mention the trinity. Nor is it possible for me to attend funerals. My family is not religious, but they adhere to ancestral traditions. This causes a rift in my family because they do not understand why I shine with my absence. I have a problem because they take me as arrogant because I believe this way.

But if I participate I am as guilty as they are.

        God bless you

I don't think it would be right to have anything that's dedicated to Jesus. But I do understand that it would be quite difficult to do for people with a Christian background.

Nevertheless...I guess it's wiser to avoid it. If your out to your family about your faith, it should not be a problem.

My family understands my beliefs. In this case, it was a military function. Food was provided that was suitable according to my understanding--until the caterer was asked and pronounced over the food. A military chaplain would have probably used more suitable wording out of consideration for the various beliefs, as I have seen them do in the past.

I had been looking forward to the food. The folks that paid for the food had considerately made non-pork food available. I felt conspicuous with an empty place at my table, drinking the water I had brought with me. It was never my intention to make a scene or insult the persons who had paid for the food--but it was also not a viable option in my view to compromise my beliefs. I did not explain my reasons for not eating at the dinner, but later told others why.

This is an uncommon situation for me, it wouldn't hurt my feelings if it never happens again.

Then why don't you just change the word "Jesus" into "god" since this word is more neutral.
Chaplain is just a formality and faith belonged to each individuals.

              Peace be upon you.

This is exactly what military chaplains do; they use a choice of words that is acceptable to all faiths. Some of the faiths I've encountered in uniform include Buddhism, Judaism, Islam, Christianity (various denominations), and neopaganism. There are also atheists. Typically a chaplain (if available) will only be asked to dedicate special meals such as a holiday meal.

It may be tempting to say that the dedication of the food was of no effect and just properly dedicate the food one intends to consume--but I'm not sure that this is keeping with the Deen. If the food was dedicated to other than the Almighty (ALL of the Beautiful names), then it is unfit for followers of the Deen (except for emergency). I'm not sure that it can be made fit again.

                ALLAH knows best.

As I said if Chaplain is only a formality. So don't take this responsibility as your burden for your own faith.
Yes a soldier must follow the national constitution and we cannot forced our own belief to others according to US law.

Do something neutral as always since this is only formality. So it will not harm both of your faith and country.
I'm not an American, but I'm suprised if there is something like "chaplain" existed in a secular institution.

Maybe it depends on what's in the heart of the person eat food from the blessing with 'in Jesus' name'. For some 'in Jesus' name' basically means exactly that. English for the Aramaic 'Yeshua' which is often translated as God Saves. That's something that Jews Christians Muslims and maybe some other monotheist followers can all agree. But maybe for some when in Jesus' name is said, they thing of a man hanging on a cross that others call God.
