All information is correct to the best of my knowledge only and thus should not be taken as a fact. One should always seek knowledge and verify for themselves when possible: 17:36, 20:114, 35:28, 49:6, 58:11.

Thanks Brother Wakas for the homework. I have read the verses in Arabic and therefore I want to first present the difference in how I translate the Ayat in order to make my point.

      1- ALM
2- This is (in arabic, the feminine singular was used rather than the plural) the Ayat (vereses) of the wise book. Therefore the Qur'an is pointing to the AYAT as a singular entity.
3- A guide and a mercy for the good doers.
4- Those who uphold the salat, and bring forth the purification/betterment and regarding the hereafter they are certain.
      5. These are on a guidance from their Lord, and they are the successful ones.
3-4-5 are very much like you translated.
6-And from the people, there are those who accept (lahwa alhadith),to me this means "baseless play of the Hadith (the talk), instead of baseless narrations"to mislead from the path of God without knowledge, and they take (HER rather than IT therefore pointing to another feminine singular word. To me that points back to the AYAT)as entertainment. These will have a humiliating retribution.
      7. And when Our revelations (AYAT)are recited to him, he turns away arrogantly as if he did not hear them, as if there is a deafness in his ears. So announce to him a painful retribution.

Therefore to me the most important issue is the importance of the AYAT because they are the theme at the beginning and at the end and because of the HER pointing to it.

The other important theme is (lahwa ALhadith) which to me means (play on the talk) and this could point either to the sayings that are not in the Qur'an that people point cite OR to the play of words that people apply to the words of the Qur'an to make them mean something totally different from what GOD says. This understanding is consistent with the following AYAS
      7.
Wa-inna minhum lafareeqan yalwoonaalsinatahum bialkitabi litahsaboohu minaalkitabi wama huwa mina alkitabiwayaqooloona huwa min AAindi Allahi wama huwa minAAindi Allahi wayaqooloona AAala Allahi alkathibawahum yaAAlamoona
There is among them a section who distort the Book with their tongues (As they read) you would think it is a part of the Book, but it is no part of the Book; and they say, "That is from Allah," but it is not from Allah It is they who tell a lie against Allah, and (well) they know it!

Thalika jazaohum jahannamubima kafaroo waittakhathoo ayateewarusulee huzuwan
That is their reward, Hell, because they rejected Faith, and took My Signs and My Messengers by way of jest.

So the important theme is to be careful with words. Do not use words other than GOD's and Do not play with GOD's words by twisting them to make them mean something totally different. Those verses do not change the way I look at SALAT though.

      Hussein

        peace Hussein,

and they take (HER rather than IT therefore pointing to another feminine singular word. To me that points back to the AYAT)as entertainment.

Thanks, that reinforces my understanding, that from 311-7 the recurring subject of reference is the ayat / scripture / guidance, etc.

Thus directly linking, once again, al quran and slw.

        Wakas

          Salam brother Wakas,

Can you explain again the link between Qur'an and SLW through your understanding of the verses? Thanks Brother

          Hussein

                I agree with you.

The verse 458 is similar than 77

                1. He hears God?s revelations being recited to him, then he persists arrogantly, as if he never heard them. Give him news of a painful retribution.
YasmaAAu ayati Allahitutla AAalayhi thumma yusirru mustakbiran kaan lamyasmaAAha fabashshirhu biAAathabin aleemin

and 459 is similar than 76

                1. And if he learns anything from Our revelations, he makes fun of them. For these will be a humiliating retribution.
Wa-itha AAalima min ayatina shay-an ittakhathaha huzuwan ola-ika lahumAAathabun muheenun

                2. ?This is because you took God's revelations in mockery, and you were deceived by the worldly life.? So from this Day, they will never exit therefrom, nor will they be excused.
Thalikum bi-annakumu ittakhathtum ayati Allahi huzuwan wagharratkumu alhayatualddunya faalyawma la yukhrajoonaminha wala hum yustaAAtaboona

Ma-Sha-Allah the most logical explanation I have heard so far...

                    bump

I'm amazed at some of the content of the older threads.

The link in the original post does not work, see here
                    http//web.archive.org/web/20050301081253/http//mysite.wanadoo-members.co.uk/think-786/chapter31_1_7.htm

This point alone provides a very strong case for salat al fajr = quran al fajr (which is the only other daily thing we are told to do in AQ, just one massive coincidence?) in 1778.

Now that my grammar skills have improved since I made this post. I should mention the "it" in 316 could also refer to "salat" as this is also feminine. I think it is only a matter of time before it is proved conclusively the regular timed salat/bond means reading/reflection/oration of al quran.
