Is marriage fard or wajib according to Quran?
-
Peace all,
As far as I know, there is not "nunship, monkship, priesthood" according to Islam. Yesterday, I was discussing with Quran Alone Muslim sister about whether or not marriage fard according to Quran. While we were talking I said "I won't marry never because I don't want to marry, I just want to devote myself completely to God. Then, she respond me saying that marriage is fard in Islam, therefore women or men have to get married. Having read Quran, I understand that marriage is wajib according to Quran, that's to say, Quran strongly advices both women and men to get married, build a family and raising children who know Allah, etc. As of now, I'm 25 years old and I don't want to marry. Is it a sin?
May peace, mercy and blessings of Allah be upon you.

Peace,
Not seen any indication that marriage is a must. I doubt it even is advised but likely the verses say to marry rather than an extra-marital relationship, but I am not sure about it so may have to study it more. But it is not fard.
God bless you

Peace,
That does not say that you must marry. It is just an invitation. It does not say 'God has decreed for you that you must marry".

It is precisely told whom one should marry. Do not marry those who already have a consort, but someone who does not have that. Because with good cause it is a question to provide the opportunity to all to marry and prevent that some had several consorts and others do not have any. Marriage may be is a must to experience life fully, but, as we know, there are circumstances and conditions that must be met for a marriage to take place, if they are not there, there cannot be any marriage, precisely what the Qur'an does is give injunctions so that it is possible for everybody to have a consort, and that we should all strive to make that possible for us.

In addition to the previous suggestions, I'd also suggest 7189
Having read the suggested ayats, and this one, my understanding is that it is obligatory. Allah does not wish hardships upon you, but he similarly doesn't test you in things by which you are certain to fail, in my understanding. 2278, 428, 2185
I am unsure of what country you are in, perhaps you feel you'd be treated unfairly with the prospects for husbands where you are. If that is the case, by all means protect your faith. But, I don't think staying dedicated to God and being married are mutually exclusive. By all accounts, if you marry a righteous man, I feel like you may help each other get closer to Allah.
God-willing these ayats and my opinion serve you well.

ALLAH says " marry those among you who are ....." so I believe it should be taken as a command, you have to realize your not doing it for yourself the guy you married might be having his prayer answered. also theirs an ayat about unprescribed monasticism (spelled horribly sorry). do you have the means for marriage? if so then do it you also have to do the haji right? does it say when to do the haji? consider ALLAH's command and not your own lazyiness lolz not to offend but were humans make excuses for things like choirs and commands.

Peace,
I can still not see any command in the phrases. Perhaps I can see an encouragement or saying which women or men to marry.
God bless you

Salaam,
Please take a look at these aayaat carefully and see what Allah teaches you.
1672 and 3021
There are more aayaat that I will give you inshaAllah later .
May Allah bless you pr

It's my understanding that we must praise Allah since Allah gave us mates as blessings but I still don't think that marriage is a must according to these ayats.

Are the words for marry(the basic verb) and the command marry(telling you to do it) separate in Arabic? Because in English, that reads very much like an explicit command statement, to me.

Peace,
I see no negative implications of not being married. But marriage comes if God wills and we should do what The Master wills. But it is no sin of not being married if the time is not ready yet.

That's quite similar with my current understanding. http//3.bp.blogspot.com/--h4eLCX9klE/UZHjEBYfY2I/AAAAAAAADoo/W5bcUQjtXls/s1600/thumb-up-facebook-emoticon-like-symbol.png

I agree with Man of Faith. Marriage is the best school of life, but it cannot be imposed and I do not see that God imposed it. As with other things, Qur'an is too wise to go around imposing things, what it does is give practical injunctions which favour and promote and make marriage possible and at hand. To impose and do nothing else is useless. Qur'an is not useless but we seem to make it so many times trying to extract categorical commandments or prohibitions for everything, when in fact the Qur'an gives us ways, commendations, insights to the best and refrains from making lists of prohibitions or imositions.
Also, my view, is summed up in Spanish popular saying "Boda y mortaja del cielo bajan" = wedding and shroud from heaven come down.
That is, one never knows, and with offspring it is even more so. It is like jumping into a swimming pool without knowing how much water there is or if there is any.
But the daring do it. And I think it is better to be daring than sorry. Jihad for you.

Context within the household
And the women who are past child bearing and who do not hope/desire for marriage have no sin upon them if they discard their garments, provided they do not show off with their beauty. If they abstain, then it is better for them. God is Hearer, Knower.
The doer of the verb is the woman/individual, i.e. they make the decision.

For those who say marriage is compulsory, please answer my questions
At what age should a person get married? Since you say it is compulsory, does that mean a person just has to choose randomly a person he / she wants to marry and just marry at the same time he / she has randomly selected the one that he / she wants to marry?
What is your opinion on "compatibility and mutual understanding in marriage"? Do you think it is necessary to know a person well before marrying him/her?Well in my opinion, those who think that marriage is compulsory are still stuck in Traditional (eg Sunni, Shia) version of Islam that supports forced and child marriage.

I think its compulsory, and I think the age is the moment before you die. I'm 25 and single as a male in the US. I definitely 'could' be married, but I'm not. I'm waiting until either I meet someone that really compels me toward that direction. Marriage>fornication. If you can abstain and be unmarried, great. Do that until you meet the right person. I think your current opinion is too black/white.
As with all things though, I don't think failing to perform this single compulsory task will keep one out of Paradise(by itself).

Since you say it is "compulsory", then you should get married NOW! Otherwise you are just contradicting yourself.

Peace,
Considered how many associators (mushriks) and opponents to God there are all over I must doubt that God considers it a sin not being married. It is not easy to find the right spouse, but they should find it within the community of God. That is also the encouragement by The Master that you recite as "fard". I think no one in their right mind does not desire to stabilize and tranquilize themselves with a rightful partner as God has created man and woman. If you were supposed to live alone then God would have created only one gender. And without offspring to a righteous servant there is difficulty rearing good children for future generations that remember the decree of God.
God bless you
