A lesson from the story of the men of the cave
In verse 1813, the Quran states that the men of the cave (Seven Sleepers) were youths who believed in God, and were increased in guidance. On the other hand, their people were polytheists. They believed in other gods instead of the one and only God.
In verse 1815, the Quran states that their people (the polytheists) were not able to adduce any reasonable evidence in support of their beliefs. Hence there beliefs had no basis in reality.
The lesson we can learn from the story of the "men of the cave" is that one of the best ways to convince muslims and non-muslims to follow "Quran-oriented Islam", is by adducing evidence in support of our beliefs. The power of an evidence-based approach should never be underestimated. Because no one can argue against a solid evidence. A solid evidence exposes falsehood and burns it into ashes.

The Straight Path (Sirat-Ul-Mustaqeem)
What is the straight path according to the Quran? What do muslims have to do to be guided towards the straight path? I believe that the answer to these questions can be found in the verses below.
"That you should serve Me? That is a straight path."
"God is my Lord and your Lord. So serve Him. This is a straight path."
"God is my Lord and your Lord, so serve Him, this is a Straight Path."
According to the above mentioned verses, serving the God is the straight path. In other words, as long as a muslim serves god he will continue to be guided towards (or walk in) the straight path. But if we want to serve God we first have to find out how we can serve God. The answer to this question is found in the quran.
"They said, "O our people, we have heard a book that was sent down after Moses, authenticating what is present with him. It guides to the truth; and to a Straight Path."
In the verse above, the Quran states that the book of God guides to the truth and to a straight path.

When I started this thread I thought that many members in this forum would be interested in this thread. And I thought that muslims in this forum would participate in this thread by sharing and discussing lessons from the Quran. But it seems that I was wrong.
As far as I am concerned, there are many muslims in this forum that are knowledgeable when it comes to the teachings of the Quran. Hence, I think there are many muslims in this forum that I can learn a lot from when it comes to the teachings of the Quran. I am a student of islam/quran just like everyone else in this forum. I have never claimed to have all the answers to anything. And I will never have all the answers to anything. Therefore I am in need of the help of knowledgeable brothers and sister, in order to illuminate more of the path that I have chosen (or perhaps been guided to). If muslims in this forum share lessons from the Quran in this thread, we can all learn from eachother.
I think it's a shame that no one except me has participated in this thread. For some reason, it seems that no one except me shows interest in this thread. Perhaps it was a bad idea to start this thread.
I find it strange that no one except me has participated in this Quran-oriented thread. Afterall, FM is a Quran-oriented forum. So I am surprised that no one has shown interest in this Quran-oriented thread. This thread seems invisible just like dark matter in the universe.
If no one participates in this thread by sharing and/or discussing lessons from the Quran, this post will most likely be my last post in this thread.

It is a model for men, but while I put it here it is to certify that I like that model, that women like that model, that God knows us women, that he recognizes his work in us and that he creates men that are to our likes.

It seems there is a lack of men on this planet who goes by yusuf's character... I agree that all men and women should see him as a good role model. Men should particularly see him as a good role model as women should see maryam as a good role model...

I also think Joseph was a great Prophet. He was a very good example/role model, in my opinion. I have read the story of Joseph many times in the Quran. I like the story of Joseph a lot. Because there are many valuable lessons in his story. By the way, I would like to share a lesson from his story in this thread. I will share a lesson from his story in my next post.

In this text I would like to share a lesson from the story of Joseph. My interpretation of the story of Joseph is based on different verses in the Quran.
So when she heard of their scheming, she sent for them and prepared a banquet for them, and she gave each one of them a knife. She said, "Come out to them," so when they saw him they exalted him and cut their hands, and they said, "God be praised, this is not a human, but a blessed angel!She said, "This is the one whom you blamed me for, and I have seduced him from himself but he refused. If he does not do as I command him, he will be imprisoned, and he will be one of those disgraced.
In verse 1231-32 above, it seems that the wife of the governor and some other women tried to seduce Joseph to give in to their seduction. This also seems to be confirmed by verse 1251. Let me quote this verse.
He said, "What is your plea that you tried to seduce Joseph from himself?" They said, "God forbid that we would do any harm to him." The wife of the Governor said, "Now the truth must be known, I did seek to seduce Joseph from himself and he is of the truthful ones?"
Let me quote verse 1231 and verse 1232 once again. .

Verse 1251 seems to suggest that they were trying to seduce Joseph to give in to their desires/wishes. But as mentioned earlier, Joseph considered prison better than what those women were inviting him to do. In verse 1233 above, Joseph says that if God do not turn the scheming of the women away from him, he will fall for them (give in to their desires) and be of the ignorant.

The lesson we can learn (extract) from this story is that if a muslim man/woman gives in to his/her desires/temptations by having intimate relations with the opposite sex (without being married) the muslim man or woman might become ignorant of what is right and wrong and ignorant of what is true and false. In other words, the muslim man or woman might experience a huge loss; by no longer being able to judge what is right from wrong and what is true from false. A state of ignorance does not always mean ignorance of knowledge/information. A state of ignorance can also mean ignorance of morality (what is right and wrong). And it can also mean ignorance of reality (what is true and false).
If the interpretation of the above mentioned verses is correct, this suggests that chastity and good judgment goes hand in hand. And this would mean that a man/woman must maintain his/her chastity if he/she wants to possess the ability to what is judge right from wrong and what true from false. Therefore chastity seems to be of utmost importance in islam.

Good insight.
Many men, unfortunately, consider this situations as something of an advantage, they "take" something for nothing. Some acquisition for their actives of worldly success. They do not love themselves but their worldly image of themselves. Somebody who loves himself would act like Yusuf, somebody who loves his worldly image will go for "it".
It is a kind of adolatry of the world.

There is a verse about punishment in the Quran. But I don't know if it is relevant to your article. Because it is about punishment in a debate/argument. The punishment is mentioned in verse 16126.
And if you punish, then punish with equivalence to that which you were punished. And if you are patient then it is better for the patient ones.

In my view, both Maryam and Yusuf are good roles models for both men and women. That being said, I agree with your view about Yusuf being a better role model for and Maryam being a better role model for women.
I think Joseph was a very good example. But some people claim that Abraham is the best example for both men and women. The Quran seems to confirm this view.
Here are some interesting verses about Abraham
Who is better in the system than one who peacefully surrenders himself to God, and is a good doer, and he followed the creed of Abraham in monotheism? God took Abraham as a friend.
Who would abandon the creed of Abraham except one who fools himself? We have selected him in this world, and in the Hereafter, he is of the reformers.
VERILY, Abraham was a man who combined within himself all virtues, devoutly obeying God's will, turning away from all that is false, and not being of those who ascribe divinity to aught beside God
They say, "Be Jews or Christians, then you will be guided." Say, "Nay! Ours is the Creed of Abraham the upright. He turned away from all that is false, and he was not an idolater in any sense.
Thus We showed Abraham the kingdom of heavens and earth, so that he will be of those who have certainty.

The impossibility of punishing a wife for adultery
Those who accuse their wives, but they have no witnesses except for themselves, then the testimony of one of them should be four testimony, swearing by God that he is being truthful. The fifth shall be God's curse upon him if he is one of those lying. The punishment will be averted from her if she testifies four times by God that he is of the liars. The fifth shall be that God's curse is upon her if he is speaking the truth. All this is from God's favor upon you and His mercy. God is Forgiving, Wise.
According to the above mentioned verses in the Quran Quran, a wife who is accused of adultery, can not be punished unless she admits that she has commited adultery. It is impossible to punish someones wife for adultery if she testifies that that her husband is lying. Because if she testifies that that her husband is lying, then the punishment will be averted from her (whether she has commited adultery or not). This law proves that Quran-oriented islam is a deen (way of life) that emphasises mercy and forgiveness over punishment.
Does anyone know if the above mentioned law is included in the Sharia of traditional islam?
