    Peace,

Does anyone here know how much merit Lanes entry for the root has? His entry on the first form of the verb is exclusively describing knowing something thoroughly or very well.

    Imraan

This is exactly the meanings of the root and not to kill someone. This is another example how meanings of Quran are changed at roots.

Yes, I would say that it is correct as you suggested from the dictionary in this case.

There are a lot of verses which are mostly translated as "to kill" for q-t-l,and they can be wrong look this is one i guess is not translated well.

            Peace,

I would disagree about any killing for the word in question.

I agree with you. alQuraan is not violent book, it is the book of peace. So, no killing or war is mentioned.

Please let me know how many prophets and messengers fought or do war in the path of Allah from alQuraan. Fortunately, I don't find any yet, alhamduliAllah.

To put to death to kill; to slay; to slaughter; to execute; to eliminate; ...

                Examples from the Qurn

                {429} -
and kill ye not yourselves; for G-D is Merciful to you.

                {6151} -
and slay not the soul which G-D hath made sacred, except by right (i.e. in the course of justice)

                {2833} -
he (Moses) said My Lord, I have slain a soul from (among) them, thus I fear lest they should slay me

                ... Etc!

                    Agreed

And He brought down those who supported them among the People of the Scripture from their
fortresses and cast terror into their hearts a party you killed, and you took captive a party.

And He caused you to inherit their land and their homes and their properties and a land which you
have not trodden. And ever is Allah , over all things, competent.

Harab, does not mean, war, battle. How long and how much evidence will it take, for believers of Quran, for you to wake up from your slumber?

                      Regards,

                        Peace bakanwar2.

As far as evidence so far suggests ,those who think they have" awakaned" are walking like "zombies " .

I rather stay asleep than be in total confusion?

                        Please translate

If "yaktulun" is not "end their life"( kill) what does it mean then?

I agree some have made a mockery out of verses of Qoran, but other modern day reformers are going to the other extreme.

May the Lord relieve the "fog" form His true seekers.

                        GOD bless you.
                        Peace.

I think you've misunderstood my writing or you didn't read the link for the correction of this vers instead to translat it "to kill yourself" i wrote that it doesn't make sense and instead i gave the example of to improve oneself.

There is only one Messenger as far as i know in Sura 18 who is killing the young man but as i already wrote it is a Vision in my opinion or a alagorical message and not to be passed over in reality.

                            Peace,

Thank you all for your replies. I have a question for those who hold the view that QTL does not have anything to do with fighting or killing. Have you managed to resolve all occurrences with an alternate understanding? If it has been discussed before, please post a link to the thread.

                            Thanks,

                            Imraan
