Salaam Dear Brothers and Sisters.
I am John James, I'm 24 and I reside in the East of the England. I grew up as a naturally non-racist guy; I was "that" white guy who had Bengali, Jamaican and Indian friends. And, although I was a bit naughty in my youth, I always believed that there is a Creator, however I never cared for "religion"; to me it was clearly a control system and I always liked to figure things out for myself.
When I was 19 I reverted to Islam (Sunni) and then after about a year of sincere practice; going to Mosque to pray 5 times each day and taking trips to listen to scholar's and reading the Qur'an a lot, and the haddith, I started seeing obvious contradictions between the haddith and Qur'an.
I noticed that I could never find anything in the Qur'an which didn't seem "right" or which didn't make sense - and ever since I was little I had success after success in school, I was in the top "set" for each lesson; my main "secret" to that success was to think for myself and follow what makes sense. If it didn't make sense then it was likely it was wrong. Well, like I said everything I would read in the Qur'an made perfect sense. I was convinced it was the truth, and more convinced the more I would read it. However when I noticed clear contradictions in the haddith, nobody would listen to me, and when I pointed out several "authentic" haddith which needed to be "thrown at the wall", nobody would abandon them.
Things like not making distinction between the messengers (peace be upon them all) - "Muslims" would pray for extra blessings for Muhammad and not the other prophets - clearly going against the command. And they would mention only Muhammad and Abraham's names in their prayers, again breaking the command.
I knew something wasn't right, as soon as I started to follow and study the haddith things didn't make sense anymore.
Then I discovered the works of Rashaad Khalifa, and although the brother wasn't perfect his points about haddith were ground-breaking to me. He was right! Muslims shouldn't be following the haddith!
When I read the numerous verses in the Qur'an condemning haddith, hearsay, instructing us to only follow the Qur'an and even citing the example of the Jews who made a similar mistake of abandoning the Torah and following other books.
Those now well known verses convinced me that we should not follow haddith - in fact I blame the following of haddith and non-following of the Qur'an for 99% of the Muslim World's problems.
So, I am now a Qur'an-Alone Muslim. Thank Allah, The Most Merciful.
I discovered this forum some time ago and I regularly come here as a guest and read threads, watch discussions and read what you brothers and sisters have to say - and to be honest, I love it here. I had to make an account and join in. I've never seen another forum where people research and study God and His Message so devoutly and sincerely than here on this forum. God bless all of you believers/submitters.
So, Salaam, Shalom, Peace, I'm JJ, and other than being a God-Alone Muslim, I enjoy art and design, learning, writing and spending time with my family. (My family believe in God but not religion).
Sometimes it is difficult for me to get online because my laptop is broken, I have to use public computers or go online when I'm at my sisters. But God willing I will try to be active here.
