So.... how do we pray if we reject hadith books?
-
As soon as you say, Quran is just the Book we should follow and reject all sectarian hadith books collected by Persians generations after Nabi Karim (based on hearsay) , people ask
- How to pray if we reject the Quran?
From the past many years I have seen the following replies
a. Take your salat from Maqam Ibrahim (2125) and pray as they do in Makkah
b. Follow how it is done in society as long as it does not clash with the Quran. The Quran speaks about Call to prayer, wudu, qiyam, Rukooh, sujood, dua, etc. If you find the salat matches these Quranic terms then follow it.
c. Some people prove there is a Salat method in the Quran. I could post a link if asked. We also need to remember the Salat is a system of closely following Allah's guidance that needs to be established, a component of which is salat the prayer

And when you pray, do not keep on babbling like pagans, for they think they will be heard because of their many words.
Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him.
This, then, is how you should pray "'Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors And do not lead us into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.
For if you forgive others for their transgressions, your heavenly Father will also forgive you.? -

Salamun Alaikum
How to pray if we reject the Quran Hadith? .
Well, how do you eat? I mean how frequently? Which food items?
How do you respect your parents? I mean how many times you meet with them? How many times you say "I love you"?
How do you get your physical exercise? If we can find answer to all the above without hadith or Qur'an, we should be able to find the answer to "how to pray" as well. For me some common sense points about prayer are
- Like brother Jafar said - understand what you are saying;
- If you choose to pray - do it sincerely - not to show off.
- Do not get overly carried away about the form / format / frequency. Emphasize substance over form.
- Do not judge others based on their form / format / frequency of prayer.
- Be sincere to implement the prayer in your life. For example, if you are seeking the straight route to your Master ? try to search for the straight route in your life.

This being said, does Qur'an tell us how to pray?
I do not find Qur'an to give a step-by-step procedure to pray. That itself is deeply meaningful. Allah found it useful to send down this voluminous book to guide mankind but did not care to mention the step by step procedure to pray? that itself means there need be no cast-in-stone step-by-step procedure. Allah is not a "jealous deity" in heaven that He would expect a mandatory form of ritual from His slaves. On the other hand, Qur?an repeatedly urges us to establish Salaat. The generic ?dictionary? meaning of the word ?salaat? is something close to ?Respect/blessing?. So, even if you go with dictionary meaning establish salaat means establish respect ? and that is an indispensable part of being a muslim. To be a muslim you must establish respect of Allah in your life ? you have to be thankful and respectful to your own life and also respectful to all creations of Allah. This respect is the source of all the ethics and morality that we brag about. Thus we need to establish salaat for our own benefit.
However, there are certain verses in Qur?an that do imply that Qur?an ?endorses? a ritual form of invoking respect at regular schedule. So, if you have managed to learn or get habituated to a certain form or frequency of ritual to invoke the respect for the Master of the Universe, and that form is not at odds with Qur?an ? then perhaps from Quran?s perspective it is worthwhile to keep the practice continued with sincerity and right intensions. Qur?an encourages to submit to Allah as a community ? and perhaps it is up to the community to choose how the members will invoke the respect of Allah. Just like if you live in a community which stands up when the national anthem is played ? it is prudent for you to stand up as well; that is how it is accepted that one should show respect to one?s national anthem. You may argue that to respect your country you do not need to stand up during anthem ? but the essence of respect is in conformity ? not in disobedience. Similarly, being disrespectful about how you (or your community) invokes respect for your Master ? defies the very essence of the term ?respect? / salaat.
May Allah guide us all to the straight route.

Establish respect. Hah! Rather make yourself respectful.
